Yeah, I watched Applegeek a lot, though I haven't checked if he still does stuff in a while.
And I do still have vague plans to do more 8-bit covers, but I have a lot of art to procrastinate about, including digital art and fanfiction, so I don't know how long it'll be to get my old skill back. :]

Actually, I opted to make it a bit more generous by design.
Oh! That makes sense, too. And yeah, I was also kinda surprised how well it performed while being a browser game.
(Also, when I was practicing for an hour or two, I started getting worse framerate, but crucially, it didn't actually affect the game registering my keyboard timings. So definitely good on you for that. The only thing it affected was the choppy visuals, which was fine for me, since I knew the songs by heart and just needed general note instruction reminders by then.
Now, though, I wish I had thought of the idea that it might not have been my laptop overheating, and might have been a potential "game runs too long and holds onto too much data" problem. So I didn't actually test if it was fixed by:
1. Resetting the levels instead of going back to the menu over and over.
2. Just a need for a complete game refresh.
3. Just cooling down my potentially overheated laptop.
I was a bit tired, and wasn't in my normal "find potential bugs and test them" mode last night.)
I don't think there's too much of an actual issue, though. I wouldn't worry about it. Especially since it worked so well even at bad framerates.

Here's an idea! How long do you think it would actually take for you to adjust to suddenly turning into a pony? Think Equestria Girls portal.
You don't get any instincts or help, but do keep in mind that pony (and many other) skeletons have pretty much the same bones, just with different proportions and sometimes different uses.
More details are better, and be sure to think of other things that might help you adjust to more than just basic movement. (Can you already move your ears? How do you think a tail would feel?)

The finished version looks good for the most part. There are still few small lines outside of the intended line art.
Oh yeah, definitely. If I remember right, I barely understood the concept of layers at all, and crucially, I was literally editing my sketch to make the "line art", not actually making it as a separate thing.

I made all this a while ago. This includes my first attempt at animation, as well as first serious attempt at drawing ponies. I tend to be oddly "perfectionist" with things that don't need to be, like sketches. And tend to erase and redraw things a LOT.
So while these may look very good for first attempts, it's more like first 50 or 60 on the same image. (though the OC standing up on her back hooves is a more successful attempt at letting go and letting something be just a concept sketch, if I remember my headspace correctly.
What I'd like is some criticism on my old stuff to help me when I start up drawing again after a long period of not doing much of anything. What are the better parts? What needs the most work?
And even just opinion stuff on what kind of styles you like that you think I could shift in the direction of. I'm starting from almost no style at the moment, so this would be the time to convince me on something like that. (I won't try for a style just because it's popular, but if people like something and I also like something, it's a good thing to try for before ultimately settling into what's comfortable and becomes a style.
(I know this animation is too stiff in anything but the legs. I knew that at creation, but I was mostly just studying how legs move at the time.)
I remembering redrawing so many times to make a face that didn't look uncanny.
This was the most "experimental" of any of my drawings, and I was never satisfied with it. And yes, that is a DBZ style pose. (She canonically fell on her face just after this.)
I was actually kinda proud of my take on pony armor. I can see various ways I'd tweak things now, but I still like the general vibe and detailings.
Colorized and cleaned up a bit.
(Final clarification - this is an OC, not my OC. I, uh, never could make one because my brain insisted it had to represent me perfectly and I was just self-aware enough to know I didn't know myself well enough to make one truly represent me. This is the main character in a fanfiction I finished the first mini-book adventure of, then fumbled when it came to follow up on the rest of the series.)

This one was my only other finished pony remix (and actually my first). It's less cheat-y with the channels, only requiring the VRC6 sound chip, something actually used in real life.
I made this one, just like Shine Like Rainbows, because at the time I felt like a lot of fans slept on these songs, which were two of my favorites (and still are).
I still like this remix of mine, though re-listening to it, I don't quite like the end. It seems too abrupt.
Tragically, I lost both files in Famitracker a long time ago, so I can't edit either of my covers, or even analyze what I did that was good, without going through my videos and copying down all the codes manually (and that won't get the instruments back).

I made this a while ago in 2017, and thought I'd post it here now that I've finally joined the forum. It's "cheat-y" in the sense that it uses way more channels than hardware would at the time, but it's still something that I'm somewhat proud of today.
I don't even remember how I did the DPCM samples now. (The compressed Pinkie voices at the beginning, and the percussion.) Like, I don't remember the process I did. I remember looking at some tutorial or another for it, at the very least.
Anyway, I'm not an intuitive musical genius. This, and many of my other 8-bit covers, are at least partly possible because I found a fan or another who made sheet music for me to build the rest of it around. I honestly wish I could credit the people who made the sheet music, but so much time has passed I don't think I can find them anymore.

Oh, wait, I realized that I actually have TWO youtube channels from that period. Detsella Morningdew having most of my 8-bit music, but a separate one just named Aurora with my actual MLP covers, as well as all the raw footage from when I beta tested Legends of Equestria.
I think I wanted to keep one channel MLP themed, back when I had the idea that I'd be a lot more prolific with 8-bit covers than I actually was. At least the profile boxes are big enough for me to list both.

It's okay! You can always add that information by editing your profile.
Right, thanks! I hadn't yet fiddled around with my profile beyond the basic picture.

Just like in Genshin Impact (I noticed the similar visual design), I rushed to practice all these, because I know it's a limited event. :]
Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised at the difficulty. Despite the notes being kinda generous when it comes to perfect hits (I understand why, there's no latency calibration tool, it needs to be that way), the creative mapping made them nice and difficult to full combo.
And I definitely "needed" to full combo these. Welcome to the Show is great, and Shine Like Rainbows is literally my favorite song.
Anyway, hi Rikifive! I just found this forum because I saw your Youtube video. You had the best 8-bit music in the fandom (that I found, I guess I could have missed someone).

Thanks, both of you! I hope so too!
Oh, I should probably mention for people that are interested that my Fimfiction account and Youtube account both are under the name Detsella Morningdew.
...Probably should have made that my username here, but I got into the habit of this as my new account name for things. Oops.

My Favourite Mane 6 Pony
FluttershyHow did you find MLP Forums?
Quite simply, because a MLP 8-bit musician I follow promoted a rhythm game here, and I realized suddenly that, hey, I should join an actual forum now that I've found one, and don't have weird online anxiety like I used to.How you became a fan of My Little Pony
One of my friends had sisters. Funnily enough, it wasn't those sisters that introduced me, it was my friend that insisted that despite how it might look, there's a lot of cool things about it too. He didn't exactly convince me to just go out and watch it immediately (it's not like he knew where to show me episodes, he watched it live), but when I saw pony related stuff on Youtube, I gave it a chance.
It helps that I like horses in real life.
I don't remember what time period I got into MLP, but it was before Season 4 released at the very least.
Now while it's been a while since MLP was a hyperfixation of mine, I'm still very much a fan. I mostly engage with fanfiction and the like, but I've done a few 8-bit song covers and follow a few musicians (see how I found this site) now that my original fandom engagement, youtube videos, have mostly died down. Also MLP fangames, I love Ponyvania: Order of Equestria and Fallout: Remains.
I remember when "reactions" weren't much of a thing on Youtube, and every pony youtuber called them Blind Commentaries. Which they were, there was none of the modern "Youtuber stares blankly while the video plays in a corner" nonsense.
Anyway, I hope to find more stuff on these forums now that I actually know how to navigate forums and it doesn't seem like a scary prospect like it did to me years ago.

Shine Like Rainbows - 8-bit Remix
in Fan Music
I hope so too, my eventual hope is that I can start producing original works, but it's likely going to be more as a creative "break" from writing and digital art, since unfortunately, medical issues prevent me from getting most normal jobs, and those are the most likely to be job-applicable if I get good at them.
