My opinions on the Mane 6 could be seen as incredibly controversial. For an overall overview, I don’t necessarily hate each of the characters individually, but I do think that they could be rewritten into something even better than they already are. There’s a whole lot of missing aspects of the plot and their character arcs and it often makes me wonder whether or not, the characters are meant to be likable. The Mane 6, I’d say have fallen into the trap, of what I’d call, “False Fate”. I’m particularly referring to the Elements of Harmony and the characteristics of each of the characters. APPLEJACK: She’s my least favorite of the 6–mostly because her character isn’t fletched out enough, and the times where the episode focuses on her, she isn’t much of a good pony. She’s also seen multiple times making horrible jokes, which makes it seem like the writers didn’t know how to incorporate her trait of “Honesty” without making her rude and brutally honest. Well, most people will argue that she’s down-to-earth, and her slang makes things sound ruder than they are, but to what extent are we considering rude? First of all, I’d consider her one of the most disciplined ponies, Pinkie Pie being on the far end of that spectrum. She’s a hard worker, as we can see with her taking care of her family, the farm, and her friends. She goes full mom mode, and knows what she wants. However, that brings me to the point that she can be selfish, controlling, and also very authoritative. Not to mention that it took her 7 SEASONS to realize that her “honest” opinions can be hurtful? Just look at the episode, “Honest Apple”. Lily Lace had spent so much time dedicated to creating that feather hat, that Applejack completely destroyed because, and I quote, “you don’t need feathers on your head.” Yikes. Also honesty? The most stressful episode I watched in the entire show was, “Where the Apple Lies,” (Season 6) where Applejack tells Apple Bloom the story on how she got the Apple family in the hospital because of a white lie she told Filthy Rich to secure a business deal. And the process was insane—it was scary to see the lengths she took to cover it up. In “Leap of Faith,” (Season 4) she goes along with Flim-Flam’s fake tonic and allows Granny Smith to believe in it, which caused her to do some very dangerous stunts. Letting someone believe false claims, is also another way to LIE. Yet, each moment was meant to be a cheap moment to display to importance of honesty(?) Now to summarize, this quite literally is “false-fate”. We were made to believe that Applejack was meant to be the symbol of the Element of Honesty, but I feel like she could’ve stood for more. Such as, bravery, integrity, and determination. Since however, she is meant to represent what she is not, it makes her a bad character. If you don’t agree, watch the Element of Harmony Trials, where Twilight Sparkle was the one being tested on whether or not she should trust Applejack. Not a test to see if Applejack would lie. And after Twilight lets go because Applejack tells her, she gets saved by Dash and Fluttershy instead. Double yikes. ⭐️ FLUTTERSHY: She’s part of the Mane 6 who has the least amount of screen time and lines, this makes her boring, but she isn’t problematic. I love to see how she embodies the element of kindness so well. I’d say her character can be frustrating at times, and as I kid, I would spend 10 minutes rooting for to do something then nothing would happen. I relate to her a lot, as someone with anxiety, but to see that frustration live, is another thing. As a kid’s show, I’d expect to see her get over her fears more, explore—have more of an arc that covers her personal growth and character development. She’s a flat character, and had less depth than some of the supporting and/or background characters. She’s just Fluttershy. Not the worst, not the best. Her character design is really nice though! ⭐️⭐️⭐️ RAINBOW DASH: Rainbow Dash represents her element well, I’d say. Like how she constantly has to refuse her dreams multiple times for her friends /s. Which makes sense in the moment, because none of those teams were right for her. (e.g., Joining the Shadowbolts and realizing that she would rather be with her friends; choosing her friends over fame when she had a choice to join the Wonderbolts; And standing up for Fluttershy during the Sonic Rainboom episode.) Well, not quite. Rainbow Dash is always the first to leave her friends when something cooler shows up. I doubt it’s more of a character flaw than “False Fate”. She could represent so much more. Rainbow Dash, is skilled, talented, and ambitious. I feel like the series never gave her an opportunity to have her skills be showcased enough. First of all, it took her so long to join the Wonderbolts even though she was a pretty good flyer, and the age-gap between her and the others wasn’t that much (e.g., Spitfire.) So, in the place of her loyalty, we get that stubborn, cocky attitude that Applejack also carries with her as well. Rainbow Dash however encourages confidence, and other traits I can’t name right now. I will not deny that Rainbow Dash can be loyal, but why do we have to kill her ambition? She could’ve been humble, and represented determination, hard-work, skill, courage, confidence, and HUMILITY!! Rainbow Dash can also be so encouraging. Examples would be with her and Fluttershy as well as Scootaloo. And I would’ve loved a deeper arc where she learns to be more humble. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ RARITY: Rarity is my favorite pony, and I feel like commenting on her would be so bias of me, but Rarity is such a wonderfully written character. She’s elegant, classy, and feminine without being the stereotypical antagonist girl. The one that made little kids hate the color pink and prefer something more Rainbow Dashy. I love how she isn’t just generous but is always sacrificing her time for her friends and her sister. I can’t remember the episode exactly where she put her very BUSY schedule aside to make time for Sweetie Belle, but she didn’t meed to do that. I’m the eldest sister, and I have school and 3 jobs—I also have 6 younger siblings, and I understand to amount of effort it takes to put your work away. She also spends the time crafting dresses that represent her friend’s personalities and try making it into something they might like. And I absolutely HATE the episodes where they verbally express their feelings of distaste towards her designs, that she carefully crafted and took time on!!! Oh, and yes she’s flashy, but she doesn’t think she’s prettier than anyone else. She’s sees more beauty in everything than people see in themselves. Remember when everyone tried to understand Maud Pie and try to befriend her? Rarity (and Pinkie) was the only one to not give up on her!! She saw more than just Maud’s expression. The story about her cutie mark also tells everything about her character. The simple rock, that hid jewels inside? She made something beautiful out of something that looked so basic from the outside. They will never make me hate her. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PINKIE PIE: Honest opinion; I never really cared much for her, yeah she’s silly and kind, and extraverted. There’s not much to say about her livelihood. However, I’d like to say that she’s overrated—only because people are admiring her for the wrong reasons. This pony has so many skills, she’s so kind, light-hearted, confident, and a great fighter!! (Not to mention she’s an advanced ice-skater, can bake, throws the best parties (as well as remembering everyone’s birthdays), can teleport, is hella fast, and has insane awareness of her surroundings.) Pinkie Pie always knows what’s going on, and I like that mysterious nature about her. ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 The one pony I won’t talk about is Twilight, because her character is too complex, and I would be staying up too late

How physically strong is Sweetie Belle?
Cryst4lMoonDust replied to Gamer98's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I’m going to tell you!! The heaviest thing I believe Sweetie Belle carries, is a wagon full of Rarity’s stuff in “Sleepless in Ponyville” (Season 3, Episode 6.) I counted 4 suitcases, A sleeping Bag, A Tent, 2 shopping bags, 4 backpacks, a Jewelry box, and a large chest. The wagon itself should be about 20-30lbs, 4 suitcases is probably around 170lbs, a sleeping bag is 5lbs, 4 backpacks add another 50lbs, 2 shopping bags is probably about 10lbs if its full of clothes and more cosmetics, a huge jewelry box is probably around 30lbs, a tent is 30lbs, and a large chest is 60lbs. (If these are all filled to the brim) In total she’s carrying around 380–but—she’s pulling instead of pushing, and the wagon has wheels. The lack of friction should remove 20% of her problems, which comes down to 304lbs. That doesn’t tell you how strong she is though. Sweetie Belle most likely weighs 125lbs, which means she’s carrying almost 2.5 times her body weight. -

No, lolz. You did remind me that I’m one of the younger people on here, but definitely not that young. Also no, I don’t ship Shy-Twi, don’t be silly. Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy are my OTP, and the whole Princess Twilight and Fluttershy thing comes from my color theory obsession! Purple and yellow are opposites so I’m drawn to every scene they’re in together. It started because of a MLP:FiM coloring book I got for my birthday one year. MLP gives me a lot to hyperfixate on—especially music. I’m such a music theory nerd, and I think it’s because I grew up with the Franchise. Countess Coloratura, Adagio, Sonata, Aria, Cadence, Songbird Serenade, Sprinkle Medley, etc. All the music references give me so much to work with. I even started working as an opera singer!! Fun times. (Sorry for the small rant)

mega thread Your favourite pony and why?

Where’s the love for my girl Starlight Glimmer?! All jokes aside, I absolutely love everything about her!! I consider her the anti-hero of the world of My Little Pony—and she had her own compelling backstory. Her redemption arc and character development was something I was hoping to see in Twilight, and I’m so glad that Glimmer had that moment. The reasons for her wrong-doings felt so very genuine; she truly thought what she was doing was the right thing because of her trauma with Sunburst. And yeah, it was dramatic and silly, but it made her interestingly real and altruistic. She understood she was wrong and opened up about it as well without continuing to argue which also proves she isn’t a horrible person. And she’s also incredibly talented and skilled for a unicorn, she knows what she’s doing, and it’s great to see. -

For this, I’m going under the assumption that the ponies sleep for 5 hours a day, and their waking hours are 19 hours a day. A trip to Canterlot and back doesn’t seem to stay consistent so I’m going to assume it takes 4 hours. The mane 6 don’t go to school either, so it’s dependent on how long their job is. (This is just for fun, so no hate on the math!! Also if you want to change it to human hours subtract 4) 1.) Twilight Sparkle She has the most going on in her life as a Princess with many responsibilities—including taking care of the well-being of everyone and the land. (This is particularly true for her to be #1 on this list from seasons 4+). Even before that, as a newcomer to Ponyville, every instance is with her learning, and not to mention the constant fighting and stress she has to endure. In Season 4 she becomes a princess, and after that you start to notice how they rely on her to do all the work (not that the other princesses ever do anything.) Even during the Canterlot Wedding (Season 2) between Cadence and Shining Armor, she was one the Mane Six who got less of a vacation. And she was the one taking charge in defeating Queen Chrysalis. This also just shows that even while all the Mane Six are fighting together, it’s always her job to lead. During season 5, episode 1/2 Twilight was the one responsible for using the Friendship map to solve all the problems in Equestria while the rest followed behind. The others didn’t do much but provide support, if they weren’t there, Twilight would’ve been busy that entire day herself. Also, all her educational moments, and fights with Glimmer count for a lot. Then during the, “A Royal Problem” episode in season 7, she had to solve a family dispute while still having to hold responsibility as a leader. Math: Twilight travels to Canterlot a million times in this series, often by herself. Each trip takes 8 hours to and from, and it’s almost like she travels 2 times a week. Every single magical fighting scene/argument probably takes around 3 hours, because the sun doesn’t seem to go down even when they start in the afternoon. Studying and research must take 2 hours a day, as she is Celestia’s most “faithful” student—she must have some long studying time. And she also social princess duties. 133 hours of Free time per week to start: if we remove travel time it goes down to 117. Which is about 16.7 hours per day of free time. You remove the daily work she does, which is about 6-7 hours you get 10 hours free time on an average. 2.) Applejack Applejack works at the Sweet Apple Acres taking care of the farm and her family. “The Last Roundup” (Season 2) talks about the Appleloosan Rodeo which I’ll come back to later. I would like to mention however, that no matter how hard Applejack works, she will always work less during Winter times and such. Her busiest times are during the Fall. “Applebuck Season” (Season 1) shows enough of what is needed to be said about how hard she works. And she’s clearly one of the ones in charge of the family, as noted in “Apple Family Reunion” (Season 4). Math: During her busiest seasons she might work 10-12 hours a day (hours of sunlight), on the farm and with family duties. There are also 6 episodes where the Appleloosa is mentioned, which means she must travel there more than once. Let’s say she goes twice a year, which would be .3 hours of travel a day. That’s 7.7 hours of free time per day during her busiest seasons and 10.7 hours of free time on an average day. 3.) Rarity Rarity is busy with her business, the Carousel Boutique. In “Suited for Success” (Season 1), Rarity is constantly working on new designs to satisfy her customers all day. In “Rarity Takes Manehatten” (Season 4), she’s busy trying to make a name for herself in the big city. And there are multiple examples of her making dresses every season. There’s also an episode, that I can’t remember the name of or find, where she has a long schedule and makes some time for Sweetie Belle. There are also MANY holidays and Social events named in the show in which she makes designs for. The Grand Galloping Gala is said to be yearly so she makes at least 6 designs in a year. She made a wedding dress for “The Ticket Master,” she made a design called “Grace and Beauty” for “Boast Busters, (Season 1). She made that one yellow dress, the Bridesmaid dress, the detective outfit, etc. Math: There’s like 24 social events in the whole show, that’s 2 dresses per month. And she makes at least 6 dresses during those days, and at least 1 per day—per shop. In this case she has 3. And she makes every dress at least twice!! And her magic probably makes dress-making faster, and it’s unclear how long it takes her in the show, but she definitely favors quality over quantity. If she works 6 days a week, that’s actually 21 dresses a WEEK. If it takes her 2 hours per dress that’s 21 hours a week. I think she might travel once a week which is another 8 hours. Then another 1 hour per day she spends fashion designing, which is another 6 hours. That leaves her with 11 hours of free time on average. 4.) Rainbow Dash I’m surprised Rainbow Dash isn’t higher on this list. I think she probably spends the most of her time during Wonderbolts training, and controlling the weather like the rest of the pegasi. She’s also actively training/doing competitions in each of these episodes (feel free to tell me more): “Newbie Dash” (Season 6) “Wonderbolts Academy” (Season 3) ”The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000” (Season 2) “The Best Night Ever” (Season 1) “Testing, Testing, 1 2 3!” (Season 4) “Rarity Investigates!” (Season 5) “The Saddle Row Review” (Season 5) ”The fault in our Cutie Marks” (Season 6) “Parental Glideance” (Season 7) “The perfect Pair” (Season 7) ”The Washouts” (Season 8) “The Last Crusade” (Season 9) “The Crystal Empire pt. 2” (Season 3) “Daring Don’t” (Season 4) This already says enough about her commitment to flying. And during “Hurricane Fluttershy” (Season 2) even though Fluttershy takes the lead. Rainbow Dash was heavily involved in coordinating the weather team. Math: Rainbow Dash travels often for the Wonderbolt events and competitions which is 2ish times per season if you split it up. I’d say this is once every month, so .25 days per week. And I’ll also add an extra day each month for special Canterlot events. which is 2 days a month. 1/2 days a week spent on traveling is 129 hours of free time. Then she probably spends a total of 5 hours on training and weather control, I’m deciding this on the time she would start to when it becomes night time. This leaves 13.5 hours of free time per day N/A Pinkie Pie Pinkie Pie’s responsibilities are way more light hearted than everyone else’s. PARTY PLANNING!! So that’s one party for every resident of Ponyville. But she also throws random parties like in the episode, “The Party of One,” (Season 1). She threw a welcoming party for a pony once, and an after-party, etc. Math: In the show she threw a party for Rainbow Dash, Spike, and Herself. There are 200+ named characters and possibly 300-5,000 ponies. She would probably need 3 parties a day. And each party takes her several hours to a full day. She also helps at the Sugarcube Corner, and babysits, which could look like 1 hour in total. With all this being said, her party planning is also part of socializing. So, even though she would have about 0-1 hour of free time, it’s more like 18 hours. She travels to Canterlot 3-4 times in total, Appleloosa once, Manehatten once, and Crystal Empire once. That’s like 0.01 times traveled per day, and 0.15 hours. So she has pretty much all day free. N/A Fluttershy (I’m exhausted now and I’ve lost momentum.) Fluttershy does take care of animals. And the animal who sleeps the shortest amount of time of which she takes care of, is the bird, which sleeps for 8 hours, so at most she works 16 hours, however they only need 1 hour of maintenance. The animal who needs the most amount of maintenance is the ferret, which takes 3 hours from her day. They also sleep 18 hours a day. So like Pinkie Pie, so has all day of free time, unless she would rather socialize. If however, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy switched jobs, Pinkie Pie would have 3 hours of free time, and Fluttershy would have none. Summary: 1.) Twilight 2.) Applejack 3.) Rarity 4.) Rainbow Dash 5.) Pinkie Pie 6.) Fluttershy
