  1. Just saw it. Not my favorite and I don't think I will ever see it again. Old West? Meh. Cutie Mark Crusaders focusing solely on getting their cutie marks? More meh. And a whole scene devoted to Rodeo Clowns? I hate clowns, so ew... Troubleshoes seemed kind of funny/fun and I like the way he looks, but overall, this didn't interest me much at all. Get back to the Mane Six already...
  2. I definitely got the impression that "hibernation" is a euphemism for "death." Look at that scene where Rainbow Dash is trying to avoid even saying the word! On top of that, though, I also think this episode might be hinting at something deeper going on with Rainbow's psyche. She really hates being along and will do anything to avoid it. It seems to be her trigger/vulnerable point just as much as it was Pinkie's in "Party of One." It made me wonder if she has lost someone else in the past. Or else maybe she dislikes being alone because it forces her to think about things she wouldn't have to deal with otherwise (one of my main characters who is very, very similar to Rainbow Dash has the exact same issue.) I will say that this episode made me like Rainbow Dash quite a bit more than I had previously! She seems like a really deep character and I hope more of this is explored - even if it is at a subtle level. ETA - on the other other hand (lol), that isn't to say there aren't other types of loss less extreme than death. It can be very hard to have a friend move away, too, even if you still have contact with them. Tank isn't dead, but Rainbow Dash still isn't going to be able to see or talk to him for a long time. Added to that, is of course, that this was a pretty sudden realization.
  3. Awww, I really liked this one! Did anyone besides me think there was something er...deeper...going on with Rainbow Dash, though? I mean, Tank is about the boringest pet imaginable and really doesn't have much (any?) personality. How much could she miss the thing for a couple months? The stuff about how she hates being alone kind of hinted at this being related to a bigger pattern (at least, IMO) Anyway, cool to see how Cloudsdale actually works (it moves? Strange!) Did anyone else hear the tune from "Rainbow Factory" when Rainbow Dash first enters the lab? Also loved the scene with Clear Skies, Open Skies and Fluffy Clouds. Cheesy "who's on first" bit, but still fun. The crying scene was also nice, especially how AJ "cries on the inside" ("It's true!" lol). Liked the song also, although some of the lyrics were a little on-the-nose at times.
  4. Posted 5 minutes ago Thanks for the comments! Nice to hear from a fellow people fan! I kind of worry about some of my fellow teaching students who don't really like people. How are their students supposed to react to THAT? I guess one can be a decent teacher without liking people (especially kids), but with all the interaction, it really helps! I would really like to teach Film Studies at the college level, but if not, I'd definitely like to use film/television along with regular literature in high school English. Buuuuuut, I'm also working on a screenplay for a TV series and am hoping it goes...er...somewhere.
  5. Not too much, really. But... The sound of snot sliding down someone's throat Nose picking (especially for an adult - ewwwwwwww) Scrambled/hard boiled eggs Eating something that was just in someone else's mouth Someone besides you using your toothbrush Weird one, but: the way you feel when you haven't slept all night Bad breath Gag...
  6. I was worried this was going to be a sarcastic question when I saw the title! Happy that it isn't! Bu yes, human beings are far and away my favorite kind of animal. We are so much more complex and interesting than any other species, IMO. Each and everyone of us is unique, with deep emotions, psychological needs, personal histories, etc...Yet, there are also universal qualities in everybody such as a need to be respected and belong. Its so cool to me, for example, that different societies/cultures had similar creation myths, archetypes and values despite never interacting (for instance, flood stories and dragons appearing all over the world!) That's to say nothing about archetypes that appear in dreams! I am going into teaching English and Film Studies and I don't think I would be able to do this if I wasn't interested in people.
  7. I think I've really gotten good at pretending to be happy/acting happy when I am not (unfortunately, I guess? Although in some situations it can be beneficial, I suppose). It can be quite difficult/draining at times...Something to do with my family/upbringing, I suppose (a family member with mental illness - and having to walk on eggshells a lot of the time). I'm kinda' like Pinkie Pie I guess. Very cheerful seeming and like to party, but actually rather sad a lot.
  8. This kind of reminds me of discussions we have had in my Buddhist group. Some people would be willing to die for their faith, but I don't think I personally would. As for dying for a TV show? Hell to the no way. That'd be pretty extreme.
  9. Well, I loved it! My favorite thing about Rainbow Rocks was the fighting between the Mane Five and we got some of that here, too. Especially loved the passive-aggressiveness of them getting rid of each other's decorations! On the other hand, I thought the Mane Five were a bit more...err....socially inept than usual. I mean, you don't just decorate someone else's house with your OWN interests! That said, didn't the premiere kind of imply that it was all of their castle and not just Twilight's? Eh, they don't have to live there though. I sympathized with Twilight a lot this episode. Places have character, atmospheres and "personality" of their own and its really hard to lose one. Loved the scene with Twilight and Spike outside the library. Really liked the song, too. Kind of reminded me of "At the Gala" where everypony was discussing her own goal separate from everypony else's. Also: Spike has a Rarity plushy! Where did he get that???
  10. I'm afraid of having a stroke. Is that weird? Probably. Maybe its because of those old stroke PSAs. Anyone remember those? No? Here you go then! You're welcome! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wkLXJf18Pag
  11. Pretty much every Disney movie, I would say, but especially The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmations, Finding Nemo, Hercules, The Jungle Book and The Lion King (and actually The Lion King 2 also - it was my favorite movie ever in elementary school). I also used to love the Land Before Time movies. I also have a soft spot for Spider-Man 2 - pretty much the movie that got me interested in film making! Was sooo bummed when they made those silly remakes (Amazing Spider-Man - although I actually ended up liking the second one) The third Harry Potter movie was similar to Spider-Man 2 for me. I must have seen that one thirty times. Loved Grease also (and it held up really well on rewatch!) What About Bob? was also one I watched a lot growing up and still love. As for current favorites: Harold and Maude, Little Miss Sunshine, Mean Girls, Elf, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Bridesmaids, Frozen, Black Swan, Spirited Away, The Hangover, Mulholland Drive and probably fifty other things I can't think of at the moment, but they are special too Lol.
  12. F-ing November, by far. I'm in college, so its the month right before finals when literally everything is due. Plus, at the end there is Thanksgiving Break (which to me is such a pointless break - its usually a WEEK before Christmas Break here and a time when all you want to do is get your work done, but instead, you have forced family time. Yet, of course, teachers assume you had time to finish that thirty page paper...) I've never liked Thanksgiving much, either, due to my family being...on the difficult side...to say the least. Plus, its the start of the Christmas season (I don't mind Christmas, but I think it should wait until December at least) with Black Friday, etc. Just ew.
  13. I quite liked Party Favor and his willingness to take all the blame to protect his friends. Plus a unicorn with Pinkie's talent? Seems like he could be quite the badass! I liked Double Diamond, too, as I'm also a skier.
  14. Hey, you know what would be awesome? If the Sirens showed up in "Our Town" to teach the Equalizers a lesson! "Why pretend we're all the same when some of us shine brighter? Here's a chance to find your flame! Are you a loser or a fighter? You and me, me and you, lets find out who is better. We don't have to be one in the same thing. Oh, what's so wrong with a little competition? Are you afraid of failing the audition?" Anyway, just want to say I really like how the show/movie series approaches both sides and discusses how either extreme can be harmful. Too much competition and you're Siren food, too much equality and you're stuck in Starlight Glimmer's "Utopia." Beyond that, someone needs to do a mash up of "In Our Town" and "Battle of the Bands!"
  15. Well, holy shit, Batman! That two-parter was DARK and kind of scary in that it actually gave an accurate portrayal of a real world phenomenon. I'm not just talking about communist societies or cults, either. Hell, what about the way public schools are sometimes run? I'm getting my teaching certification and half of what we talk about is how some schools want to encourage sameness, let everyone "win" and ignore what makes each individual unique. Sure, the whole episode was a little on the nose with its message, but I liked it. Starlight Glimmer, much like Sunset Shimmer before her, is another powerful unicorn with a slightly altered version of Twilight Sparkle's name. Also, like Sunset Shimmer, she seems to not understand friendship so she went about it the wrong way. Interesting. I wonder where she came from and if she will ever appear again. I have to say, I kind of saw the reveal coming of her Cutie Mark still being in place because her colors weren't so faded. Thought the other townsponies were cool too, especially after their talents were revealed. Didn't think Double Diamond was going to be a skier, but that was a nice surprise (if you are familiar with skiing, you know a Double Black Diamond is how they label the most difficult terrain.) And a unicorn with Pinkie's talent? Seems like he could be quite a force to be reckoned with! The Mane Six had some good roles this episode. I loved Pinkie knowing something was up the whole time, while Fluttershy was actually taken in by "The Town" (and on another note: LOVE that that was what they called it)
  16. I think she's a great character, personally. She is my second favorite (as recently, Pinkie Pie edged her out, but not by much!) and consistently the funniest of the Mane 6 (again, only second to guess who). I love the contradictions in her character and the fact that they gave somepony who, on the surface, can be materialistic and greedy the Element of Generosity. To me, there shouldn't be an argument over whether she is selfish or generous. Why can't she be both? In real life, people contradict themselves ALL THE TIME and I've always thought said contradiction was the mark of a well-developed/"good" character (actually, we see it in other members of the Mane 6 as well - look at Pinkie for example! The happiest, but also possibly most insecure of the Manes). People are complex and can have multiple conflicting traits at once. It's amazing to see a cartoon character from a kid's show given this kind of depth! ETA: Also love her accent. So fetch!
  17. Victorian era was indeed pretty creepy, but that's why I love it! It's pretty fascinating, IMO. I'm glad I don't live in that time though! Creepier IMO, though? The 1940's, what with WWII, the Holocaust, atomic bomb and the beginning of the Cold War. Actually, most decades have a certain amount of creepiness/disturbing-ness to them. The 50's had McCarthy, and the height of the Cold War, 60's/70's had Vietnam, 80's had AIDS, 90's had start of internet and Y2K, 2000's had 9/11, Hurricane Katrina, etc...Hell, even THIS decade is pretty weird in some ways!
  18. Haha neat idea for a thread! Twilight: Espeon or Noctowl Rarity: Swanna or Serperior Applejack: Amphoros or Sawsbuck Rainbow Dash: Zebsrika or Hawlucha Fluttershy: Gardevoir or Lilligant Pinkie Pie: Wigglytuff or Lickilicky Spike: Dragonite or Flygon Apple Bloom: Growlithe or Zigzagoon Sweetie Belle: Cubchoo or Chimeco Scootaloo: Staraptor or Buizel Why? IDK...Why not?
  19. Of course it's not, but I'm a girl so... Yeah also like stuff like Frozen, Mean Girls, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Konoiche, Grey's Anatomy, Judy Blume books, Girls, stuffed animals, etc... So, yeah. Yay for girl power and all that!
  20. I would love to see an arc where Twilight goes evil! Like many have said, I don't think she has bad intentions, but rather that she takes some unnesasary risks with her magic. Being that she is now an alicorn and more powerful than ever, I think having her over do it would be very-much in character. I remember the first thing that really made me go "hmmmm" was when she blasted all the Pinkie clones out of existance in "Too Many Pinkie Pies" (the same episode, IIRC, where she created that orange/frog hybrid). It just seemed awfully intense, even ignoring the fact that she could have straight-up murdered the REAL Pinkie Pie by accident. Anyway, Sunset Shimmer had some good character development after her stint as a villain as did Luna/Discord, so why not Twilight?
  21. Hm, as far as favorites go, I'm a Film Studies scholar, so my response differs based on who is asking. A few of these are: Classic answer: Harold and Maude Typical Film Studies answer: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Black Swan More "Pretentious" Film Studies answer: Mulholland Drive Obscure/"Hipster" answer: Rid of Me or Frances Ha Nostalgic answer: What about Bob? Non-pretentious/Real answer: Mean Girls or Bridesmaids Some others I am fond of are The Hangover, Elf, The Social Network, Friday Night Lights, Carrie, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Finding Nemo, The Way, Way Back, Sunset Blvd., and Frozen Least fave? Hm... Le Miserables was one of the only movies I have ever walked out of and Twilight was pretty shittacular (watched it for a paper I was writing on Kristen Stewart). I think the worst movie I've ever seen, however, is The Narrows, which is basically a made-for-TV rip off of the Godfather staring that cloying as hell actress from One Tree Hill (so much shudder...), although I think it might have actually been in theaters at one point...somehow... Worst TV show is easier. Lol. I absolutely despise Lost.
  22. Maybe Anna from Frozen? Everyone seems to like Elsa better. I think they're both cool.
  23. Not sure if Equestria Girls counts, but wow did I ever HATE Snips and Snails' rap. I usually don't even particularly dislike those two, but that scene was pointless, annoying and went on for way too long.
  24. Haha, now that you mention it: she does remind me of tofu a bit (you know, the food famous for taking on the "flavor" of what ever is around it). She is kinda' bland, but I don't really mind her.
  25. I finally watched this on Netflix yesterday and was, overall, pleasantly surprised as I came into fully expecting it to be just as bad - if not even worse - than the first one, which was pretty much just a poorly-put together Mean Girls wannabe (and Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies, btw. That's how a SMART high school movie is done. As a future high school English teacher, I just love it) that was pretty much an insult to Mean Girls AND to FiM. From all the promotional material, the second EqG looked even lamer - a singing competition? Yeah, that sounds epically exciting... However, it was surprisingly not-terrible! I'd even watch it again if only for the songs. It started out a bit cringe-worthy (especially that "Better than Ever" song - wasn't there one pretty much just like it in High School Musical?) but it really picked up around the "Battle of the Bands" scene. I thought this one felt more Mean Girls-ish than the original with a better Regina George stand-in (what was her name again? Adagio...something?) and she even had Karen and Gretchen this time! Meanwhile, redeemed Regina George (a.k.a Sunset Shimmer) was pretty cool this time around. The whole bringing-up-her-past-discretions was definitely an overused joke, though. "This is getting so old!" I even said out loud the third time it happened. Also, I guess I have a bit of inner Mean Girl myself because I found the scenes with the Mane Five bickering hilarious! While they weren't shown in their best light ever, I definitely found the tensions in-character, especially everyone's annoyance with Rainbow Dash. Rarity and Applejack's conflict was also nice and reminded me of "Look Before you Sleep." That said, it definitely wasn't perfect. Twilight didn't do much, Spike did even less and I was SO disappointed that we didn't get a Crusaders song! They had the same costumes their pony counterparts in "Show Stoppers" and everything. Flash Sentry was bland in the first movie, but mildly likable. Not so much, this time around. Does he get that Twilight isn't human or not? Because if he does, then that's borderline ick. Random quote I liked: "Go to bed, Sonata." This was most likely unintentional, but Sonata is the name of a sleeping pill that my roommate takes. Lol.
