  1. Well, it's made me more conscious of and appreciative of apple products. At least, for a time I was getting my hands on all the apple pie and such that I could, with Applejack in mind. Could still use more apple...

Besides that, I'm not really sure. My generally laidback, I-don't-care-if-people-criticize attitude hasn't really changed much in the past 4 years. I've always tried to be kind to others, to be friendly; I suppose part of MLP's draw was that it matches my life views rather well. I'm an optimist, if anything.

Immediate Edit: Oh, but saying "eeyup" is a thing I picked up pretty quickly and have never dropped. And, naturally, the occasional quote in general, with or without context. Also, most of my music library is pony-related music, and so much of it makes me smile.

  2. I'm still subbed to him. It helps that I've always been interested in anime (that's his thing now/again), but eh. I enjoyed him enough to stay.

I was sad to see him go, and miss his pony content, but I can definitely see where he was coming from, and it was his decision to make. Besides, it sounds like he may do isolated pony vids in the future if he cares enough to say something about a new episode, and more importantly, there are still lots of other great analysts out there. All is well.

  3. I keep forgetting Antony... I probably have to go with him, even if I seem to often disagree with his nitpicks. But besides that, I'm most fond of Gibbon, Tommy and Digi.

Gibbon is really the most fun to watch. He never fails to make me smile, making good points all the while. Whereas Digi and Tommy are more... well, analytical. Both intelligent, reasonable people who are good at what they do.

Of course, Digi does other stuff now and isn't going to consistently pony anymore, so that more or less leaves Tommy. I'm fond of them both, but I think I can identify with Tommy more. Some things bother him that matter little to me, but opinions are opinions.

Antony, though. He's so charismatic, and at the same time intelligent and clever. He doesn't make much in terms of quantity, but the quality is great. Always a joy to watch his videos.

Edit: Wait, how could I forget Kimi Sparkle? She forever holds a very special place in my heart.

Edit 2: ...Wait. I also forgot TBBBAP. Damn, they're awesome.

  4. I'm not too crazy about Behold, Princess Twilight (though I had mixed feelings on alicorn Twilight and am coming to rather like it, the song seems to lord he new status over me, particularly with the word "cometh." it sounds nice though), and I've Got to Find a Way doesn't particularly strike me, but I find everything else to be simply fantastic. That said... I have a hard time deciding between Babs Seed and Raise This Barn. And hell, A True, True Friend gives them just about as much a run for their money as they do it (same goes for What My Cutie Mark is Telling Me).

Bah. Too many good songs... I wish I could choose two. Hrm. >_>

I'll go with Racist Barn. Applejack's singing voice is too good.

  5. Ah yes, I forgot to mention... I love the Starswirl development. We already knew or got the idea that he was similar to Twilight (or rather, that Twilight is similar to how he was), but it seems that, basically, he was Twilight the way she was heading in Friendship is Magic: Extremely magically talented, but not very interested in friendship. And I think that is an intriguing parallel/relation there.

Also, I'll not neglect to point out, that definitely still leaves open the possibility of Discord being Starswirl. And while my preference has always been that they stay separate characters... just as with princess Twilight, if they execute it well then I'd be happy with it, as I am with Twilight.

  6. Pic is relevant.

Well, my friends... As expected, I was satisfied. More than that, I really enjoyed it! The solution was found too fast and I'd prefer Twilight to not have flown at the end, but on the whole I was more than content.

And I don't seem to have too much else to say until I read others' posts, so yeah. But the meme commercial was awesome, the songs were great, and... ponies. Oh, and cries were had.

    *salutes*

    Onwards, my brothers and sisters.

  7. Oh, of course I would do dirty things, but... Well, I'd go and do just about anything, really. Just live the life while I can.

Some of it would be spent lamenting that it's only temporary, but I'd take what I could get. lol

It's something I've thought about for years and have really wished for, but I think I'm more or less getting over it. If I had the option of a free change and could be sure I wouldn't look fake as hell afterwards, I'd seriously consider it, but eh. I've always been satisfied as my male self, I'd just prefer to be female if I had the choice.

  8. I'm pretty open about it. A little self-conscious sometimes or in ways, but I may mention it to anyone I'm on a fair speaking basis with and haven't JUST met. If I find that my company is adverse to it I'll clarify how I disagree with those of our kin who try and force it on people, and I pretty much leave it at that.

And if someone isn't particularly against the idea then I may randomly mention or show them things or something. And with people I actually know... Fageddaboudit, no holds barred then--though I don't necessarily spam. lol

  9. Also can you imagine how the brony fandom will explode? There are lots of talented Japanese animators out there and it would be fun to see some of their fanworks based on MLP.

Ohhhhh, don't get me started on how awesome that would/will be.

Jeez. Assuming it goes over well (I don't see why it wouldn't, but I don't want to assume too much), there's amazing stuff on the way. What could be better than the fandom and fan content being enriched like this?

Doujin. Oh, there will be doujin. And... some thing I was gonna say but forgot.

  10. Do you have any idea how excited I am for this.

No, because none of you know how much I adore Japanese dubs. Or the entire language, for that matter.

Regardless of the quality- which is bound to be good, given what I've seen of other Japanese dubs- you can bet I'll watch this one all the way through.

You sound like me. I'm fascinated with Japan, to say nothing of my specific feelings toward the language and anime.

I can't wait to watch this. And I'll be able to use any video player soon since, thanks to moving, I'm about to be able to use my computer again. BRING ON THE JAPAN BRONIES

  11. I liked it. The ceremonial headdress didn't seem all it cracked up to be, Pinkie's "NO"s and antics in the rotunda were meh, I was facepalming the entire episode at the the increasing obviousness that it wasn't the games inspector (though the execution on it was generally fine), and Cadance's animations in the beginning, as well of the delivery of some of her lines, were meh.

But, Pinkie was otherwise entertaining, we got more filly Dash and saw her dad, Rarity got to be important for once this season, the welcome cheer was pretty cool (for me, it was mainly the rainbow heart)... Shining armor coaching and getting hit on, lol. It was a fun episode.

Though the animation for Twolight's little relaxation exercise kinda annoys me. But the exercise itself is great--it's good to see Twilight in control of her freakouts. Will watch again. :U

Also, we do tie-ins now. Tie-ins are cool.

  12. Hello all. I saw this topic while surfing the web and wanted to chip in. I love the show, and I love Twilight Sparkle, and personally I believe she deserves becoming a Princess. But I read a few things on the first 10 pages of the topic that I thought were a little over the top or a little off. I want to give my opinion on these matters and see what everybody thought. the first point that I thought was off-base was:

1:Twilight becoming a princess ought to mean the show is coming to an end.

Um, why is this? When I see this, i take it to assume that the show is soley about Twilight Sparkle, but its not. It isn't even about the mane six. It's about friendship. About how to deal with those different than you and realizing that they have something to offer you, and realizing that having others around you just makes things better.

Look at Twilight Sparkle during the first episode. At first she didn't care about anyone other than Celestia, Spike, and her, at the time, unkown brother and parents. She wouldn't have even been to Ponyville if Celestia hadn't ordered her. Plus when she met the others, it was obvious that she couldn't get away from them fast enough. But by the end of the second episode, she realized that she wouldn't have succeeded without the help of ponies who had welcomed her as a friend, and that together they were capable of doing something far greater than they were able to alone and together they learn about friendship along with the viewer.

    img-1150327-1-mane_six_no_bg_by_aquillic

If anything, I would imagine making Twilight a princess woud help the show run even longer. Nothing tests a friendship like a big change. I would compare Twilight becoming a princess to her winning the lottery. People always treat you differently when you're rich, and from the season 3 finale on, I would expect everypony, her friends included, will be treating Twilight differently. Twilight herself, being a mare of modesty will need to learn to cope with her differentiated treatment just as her friends might need to realize that despite the wings, tiara and title, Twilight is still the bookworm wizard they know and love.

2:Twilight, as a princess, will have to leave her friends and participate in Equestria politics.

Did i miss the episode where they said that a Princess is incapable of having friends, or dod this mean that Princess Celestia ordered Twilight to make friends, learn all about how wonderful they are, only to force them apart? Cause, that would be, you know, cruel. I doubt that will happen, because the show is about friendship, and Twilight would need her friends to keep the party going. On the other hand, she could just make new friends and forget about the others, but I don't think anybody wants that.

    img-1150327-2-sad_pinkie_pie_by_brianc10

As for her taking part in Equestria politics or her replacing Celestia and Luna,( Who, lest we forget, are co-rulers of Equestria) I sincerly doubt that is gonna happen, at least in the span of the show's life. Regardless of what we may think, I believe Twilight is still very young, maybe late teens to early twenties(if you assume that Equestrian ponies age at a rate similar to humans), due to the fact that she is very much still a student. Celestia is very wise, as we all have seen, and she won't shoulder a burden on Twilight that she isn't ready for. I'm not expecting Celestia to hand Twilight a crown and say "get to work"

Twilight will eventually take a leadership role in one form or another. But that isn't until Twilight has learned a lot more. In the mean time, she'll be getting into tons of antics with her friends.(Just imagine episodes where Rainbow Dash teaches her how to fly, spike turns the library into a Princess Twilight mueseum with admission costing a jewel upon entry, or Rarity "borrowing" the royal tiara and subsequently breaking/or losing it and then trying to get it replaced.)

3: Princess Twilight would make the other mane six obsolete, and that she would become way too powerfull

I'd like to address the second point first with this:

    img-1150327-3-Filly_Twilight_in_full_pow

When Twilight Sparkle's magic awakened, she not only hatched Spike, she aged him to the point where he was 4 to 5 stories tall, transformed both of her parents as well put some sort of continous levitation spell on four judges, put on a spectacular light show, and apparently discharged lighting. Does anyone really think becoming an Alicorn will cause that much of a difference other than giving her wings? And the problem of her being too powerful is only a problem if she abuses her power, which she won't, or is a master spell caster, which she isn't. Having the power isn't the same as being able to weild it.

As for the argument that the others would become useless, that would only happen if Alicorns are naturally (i.e. being able to do with no prior experience) able to:

    • make sonic rainbooms
    • be master flyers
    • work with plants, the weather (not counting the sun and the moon) and critters
    • be skilled business ponies
    • have the uncanny ability to predict random events
    • communicate with animals
    • tame the fiercest wild animals
    • throw parties for any occasion
    • be strong and athletic
    • Make top of the line clothes
    • be skilled bakers
    • Master Ice Skaters
These are all talents that Twilight, nor any of the Princesses have really shown, yet the rest of the mane six have shown more than once. These fillies are some of the most talented in all of Equestria, and twilight becoming a princess will never change that.

4: Luna was jealous of Twilight in "The Crystal Empire," and fears she is being replaced

Again I ask "Why?" as in "Why would Celestia replace her sister, who she loves and is her equal?" That just doen't make sense. I thought, when I saw that episode, that it was a worried look, like Luna was worried for her friend Twilight. The friend who reunited her with her sister and taught her how to cope with the new Equestria she found herself dealing with.

It was also mentioned that Luna left the room for the briefing. I think it would only be natural, considering Celestia called the task she had for Twilight a "test," and left to give the two of them their space. After all what business of it is Luna's to sit in on a private discussion between mentor and pupil?

Well that's all I've got. I tend to rant sometimes.

Aaaaaall of this. People need to try and relax a bit and stop assuming the worst or that only the worst is possible. Those things could technically happen, but um... lol. I can't see the writers going "okay, Twilight's an alicorn now. Let's make her friends look irrelevant!"

Eenope. We'll see how it goes when it goes, and I have no doubt most, if not none, of these fears will come true. Time will tell.

  13. Sitting here listening to FiM songs, I can't help but feel inspired and reminded of my faith in the writers. I'm not suggesting blind faith or anything, but I'm going to wait until it airs next week and see how I naturally feel about how it goes.

I like the look with the dress, but without... uh... Eh. Seeing wings attached to her actual body instead of sticking out of a dress comes into contact with my solid perception of Twilight in regards to her physically design; seeing her actual body and usual look with wings attached feels... weird. I do hope they approach this issue well.

I'm optimistic, but as someone else said, this seems to me the thinnest ice they've ever crossed.

  14. I made a decent-enough sized post back on page five, but seeing as how this thread's initial explosion of activity has finally calmed down with the day at an end, I feel like I might as well attempt to make a larger post. Though I may not have much, if any competition, I have a reputation to uphold as Best Discord Fan ;)

Discord represents chaos and disharmony. From what we saw in The Return of Harmony, he was a trickster spirit who had next to no morality or scruples. He had fun and if you didn't like his fun you were shit outta luck. He changed the landscape, weather, and even the buildings and animals themselves. Most of all he 'Discordified' the Mane Six. We were generally lead in the direction of believing that he was more or less vacant of feelings. Being a spirit/creature of chaos, that seemed to make perfect sense. When Return of Harmony came to a close, everyone minus people who just don't like Discord as a villain by principle were completely satisfied with the two-parter. They were content and could move on.

Now there's this episode. In which Discord, this seemingly un-feeling character who was supposed to be carefree and only interested in his chaotic motives, is suddenly exposed to the idea of 'being reformed', and 'gaining a friend'. Now, I get that the episode felt rushed, frankly I think they could have done a hell of a job if this had been a two-parter and fit more time to develop the 'realization that friendship isn't so bad/sadness at the thought of losing it' theme, but all in all, Discord having feelings, Discord being capable of caring is not at all far-fetched to me. Discord was never a villain like Chrysalis or Sombra, there was in fact an entire side of the fandom who didn't even call him a true villain, but just a chaotic entity that did what it wanted, and everyone who tried to get in its' way got discorded, as the creature's defense mechanism. The idea of him being reformed makes more sense than any of the other main villains we've seen, frankly.

When you're a nearly omnipotent being who can warp reality, and are also in the predisposition of enjoying chaos and disorder, something that all creatures generally dislike, you're never, ever going to have bonds, of any kind. Discord had absolutely no contemplation of what friendship felt like due to his nature, so obviously his personality and attitude are shaped to what he was predetermined to enjoy. Since he had no regard for feelings of others or his own, life was a giant plaything, amusement his one and only goal.

I guess what I'm attempting to say is the show is giving Discord character development, by way of showing he does in fact have feelings. He just never used them or had any reason to use them before. I get that the show rushed it a bit, and I get that some people are simply not going to like the fact that his character is being developed this way, but again, like I went into detail in this topic, if Discord were to remain a villain, he'd be doomed to eternity, stuck in the same never ending feedback loop until the show decided to not use him anymore.

Some may feel some growth pains from how his character has initially taken this rather sudden direction, and that's fine, everyone's got their opinion and preferences. As for me, I will support Discord's character no matter what happens to him, and I'm eager to see what happens next. And, you can bet there will be a 'next'. Part of why I'm not even slightly bothered by the fact that the climax and ending felt a little rushed was because it's plainly obvious to see he's going to show up again. Even if only for cameo appearances here and there, with only one main inclusion in the future, I don't doubt we'll be seeing Discord again. They wouldn't decide to reform him if they didn't have plans for his character in the future.

Especially considering Celestia has 'uses' for him and his powers now that he isn't going to try and take over.

I like you. Thumbs up to everything you said. And on that thread you made, too--though I read that back when you made it. lol

I've forgotten if I made a post or not, but mainly all I have to say now is that I don't like the "oh, I cast a spell to protect the Elements" bit. I believe Polsky's known to write DEM sorts of plot devices, like in Too Many Pinkie Pies, and I'd say this is another one of them.

However, if the elements were only protected by the special door in RtH, then I see nothing stopping Discord from just warping them out of it. In which case, Celestia having such a spell isn't so bad. However, the reform spell kinda makes up for that... lol (though that may have been a spoof/joke. maybe)

But overall, though I feel there could've been better pacing, and less holdup from AJ's dam issue, I'm quite happy with how things turned out. Discord indicates he's not suddenly a total goody two-shoes, so it seems to me he's going to be a chaotic neutral character working on the side of good, and therefore I am satisfied. And the episode itself was fun, of course. Can't get enough Discord.

    • Brohoof 1
  15. Lol, first, congrats on first thread. Don't think I've made one myself, but I do more reading/lurking than posting.

Anyway, I'm failing to think of specific instances but I do occasionally or random make such quotes. Though usually just online.

    I think.

Oh yeah, I say eeyup fairly often. Lol.

    • Brohoof 1
  16. C'mon, Discord, bro. Just come to the realization that not ruling Equestria and/or the world is worth being free. Don't let them force change on you.

    PLEEEEEAAAASE

Though I'm confident that that's not really going to happen. Something of the sort, maybe, but changing something major about him like that would take away from why lots of us are so fond of him--he wouldn't be Discord, anymore.

And this being such a fanservicey season, I just really don't see it happening, lol. Looking forward to seeing just what does happen. Just some hours left...

  17. Fluttershy: "Um... I'm Fluttershy..." Her entire first scene. She blew me away from the very start. I was squeeing and shit, just like "wow omg cute and shy". Dragonshy was awesome exposition for her too, still being shy but overcoming her fear and standing up for her friends and all that awesomeness. If she hadn't win me over in her first 10 seconds onscreen I'd say this episode did it.

Rarity: I was a bit worried in her first scene that I wouldn't like her, but the Stephen Magnet bit in ep 2 was a good sign. Fabulosity. Can't point out any particular incident or episode that spiked my approval of her (lol "spiked"), but A Dog and Pony Show was a big deal, of course. She's went up the list to seem to be my second favorite Mane Six by now, so maybe I'd say each of her episodes helped besides Look Before You Sleep. She had me won before the end of season 1, like everypony else.

Rainbow: First scene. She was awesome, it was just a great impactful way to make a debut imo. Again, can't think of a particular point where my opinion of her turned up, so I'm going with her first appearance. Griffon the Brush-Off was a good respect-raiser though. And Sonic Rainboom, well... Not much great happened for her character-wise, but SONIC RAINBOOM. And the episode had Yay for Fluttershy, too.

Twilight: I dunno. Boast Busters was a good start, I guess. And Winter Wrap Up was great too, being so willing and determined to help out. I was always cool with all the ponies, but ep 6 is probably where a greater like started. Plus I can relate to Twilight in plenty of ways, being a nerdy indoors type and all.

Pinkie: Can't really pick out anything here. My opinion of her portrayal has been on a rollercoaster since season 2, and I liked her best in season 1 (obviously), but... Eh. I like Pinkie.

And her songs are awesome. Giggle at the Ghostie was a great first/second impression. Song still makes me cry, like the end of the episode. >_>

Applejack: She seemed alright to start with, but no real wowing. Applebuck Season was mostly her being stubborn so that didn't help. I dunno if I can think of anything in particular here either, I just remember liking her. A lot, even. Applejack is great.

Sweetie Belle: I originally felt Apple Bloom was best filly, but then my feelings/opinion began shifting to a balance between her and Sweetie Belle, then finally just to Sweetie herself. Show Stoppers, with the singing and all, was important. But I'd say that if anything in particular sealed the deal, it'd be Sisterhooves Social. Still waiting on another Sweetie Belle episode. >_>

Luna: I was really fond of her before season 2, or rather, I really liked the princess of moon and night thing, and how she was supposed to have reign over the moon but she didn't show up for ages after the pilot. I'd already fallen by the time she took her cloak off in Luna Eclipsed, pretty much, but the whole episode taught me "I love Luna." One of my top favorites alongside Fluttershy. And Rarity.

Celestia: Dunno, always liked Celestia. She's up there on my list too, but blargh. Showing herself to be a wise and caring ruler while at the same time liking to play around a little (A Bird in the Hoof) was a contributif factor, certainly. In Return of Harmony, though... I gotta agree with Discord, she was being boring then. lol

  18. I've been enjoying this season. Apple Family Reunion wasn't that eventful but I like it. This Spike episode shall go down in history as one of my least favorites, but it wasn't terrible--it just had a general premise I've always found annoying (a character being adamant on doing something embarrassing or annoying when it's completely unnecessary and blahgahagaga), and didnt seem to have too much going on either. Edit: But it did have some good and fun moments, like the Timberwolf call, AJ getting Twilight's attention, etc. second half was better than first. But yeah.

I don't want more CGI in the show, but if used sometimes like the Timberwolves that'd be fine. I just HATE seeing lots of CGI in 2D shows--it feels like they try putting it in to make things look cool but fail horribly instead.

But again, this case was just fine. I just wasn't particularly thrilled about it. Plus I doubt the destruction and reconstitution of the timberwolves' bodies would've looked so fancy if done in 2D without requiring more effort. Maybe.

Anyway, aside from that stuff, I'm mostly loving it. Granted, I always disliked the new facial animation (the ones like this: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/qaceObWho0c/0.jpg) from season 2 and I keep seeing more of it (like how it was absolutely unnecessary in the middle of Fluttershy's song line at the end of TCE). They keep making Pinkie weirder and crap, in a bad way (read: Wonderbolt Academy. Aside from the megaphone part she irritates me just about the whole episode)--a lot of that already happened in season 2, but they seem to be taking it even further, making her seem more of an 'idiot'. I miss season 1 Pinkie.

Buuuuut, yeah. Animation's great, I'm enjoying the story of each ep as per usual. Loving the songs, etc. brony references could be used a bit more sparingly, but they're awesome either way. Really, aside from my complaints like Pinkie, this is the same MLP I know and love.

Also I love Babs, and in each more minor appearance of Pinkie's this season that I can recall, she's just fine (plus she was good in Too Many Pinkie Pies.) :U

...But where's my Fluttershy? Haven't gotten very much Fluttershy.

    • Brohoof 1
  19. In The Crystal Empire, Pinkie wasn't too bad--it wasn't all great, sometimes seemed like trying too hard, but wasn't all bad either. Too Many Pinkie Pies, she was great--they showed that she's not just a hyperactive ADD pony. I liked OBA, the bad puns and such seemed amusing to me. Magic Duel, she was great--the antagonistic line to Trixie seemed rather OOC but the rest was pretty good.

But, in this season it is seeming to me that they're trying too hard with her, that she's starting to feel forced. And I already felt the same thing in season 2, so it's like things keep getting worse. Wonderbolt Academy... The DON'T FORGET TO WRITE thing is damn hilarious, but almost the entire rest of the episode she just seemed wrong. She wasn't being silly or funny, she was acting dumb and overreacting big time in a way I didn't find to be executed well.

I don't think Pinkie is all bad this season, but even more than last season, I'm becoming worried that they're going to take her too far and just suck out most of the humor and everything that I enjoyed about her in season 1 and a bit leas so in season 2.
