  1. Guess what? That's an awesome book. If you were to mix it with a bit of 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, you'd end up with an accurate description of both today's society and the social orders we are approaching. I'm loving it so far, can't wait to finish it but midterm studying, school projects, essays, and stupidly over-capitalized holidays are interrupting my regularly scheduled reading times. Have you read any Ayn Rand or C.S. Lewis? Two very good, strongly aligned, writers there.
  2. (Also in reference to your username) "Remember Fluttershy, four legs good, two legs bad and/or better."
  3. I'm a Black Scottish Cyclops! Pfft, who needs depth perception?
  4. I am currently reading 1984, Frankenstein, Code Name Verity, The Complete Collection of H.P. Lovecraft, Dust of 100 Dogs, Paradise Lost, Utopia, War and Peace, The Republic, The Racketeer, Catch-22, and Firestarter (I thought it would only be appropriate). I just recently finished Animal Farm, Ask the Passengers, Too Far, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, and the Iliad.
  5. Do books count as people? If they don't, then they should. I mean, if corporations are people, surely books are too write (get it, "write")? I mean, just look at what books have done for the world! Nations rise and fall with the turn of the page. Technology leaps forward, pushing off of inspiration pulled from books! The young and ignorant become wise and tested through the exposure to books and the stories locked inside. Maybe it's not the books that are important, but the readers, the interpreters, those who make the stories come to life, those who give definition to the markings on the page. Anyway, I enjoy people, but not certain people. I do like my time alone, although I do get very lonely at times. It's a delicate balance really, all dependent on my current mindset and/or mood.
  6. Argh, I'm so much better at Medic than I am Pyro, but, as they say, the healing is not as rewarding as the hurting. Not to mention Medic_Chick 451 doesn't have as smooth of a ring to it.

  7. My three year-old sister and I have official watched all 76 episodes of the original X-Men animated cartoon. I think I now like Marvel more than DC. Well, except for Batman...

  8. My parents are refusing to buy me books for Christmas...

  9. All I'm asking of the world is a place I can go be my normal robot self and read my own instruction manual.

An instruction manual would be cool, but I'd rather be a living computer program and have a save function. Something went wrong? Load: users\morgan\

  10. Palahniuk as in Chuck "The Guy Who Wrote Guts" Palahniuk? Yeah, I've read some of his stuff... *shudders*
  11. Marry me? I've been a longtime fan of sci-fi and fantasy, with my favorites being those set in the most realistic world's, but recently I've taken a liken to just "normal" books. One that tell an unusual, funny, and interesting story about something that could very well happen in our own realm of reality. Simply realistic stories really, like those John Grisham and books that are just about life. I've started to take interest in books that reference or talk about psychological, sociological, and/or philosophical ideas, and use said ideas to fuel the plot. "Jellyfish Dreams" is one such book that I adored (although not quite as realistic as the aforementioned).

Oh, the "Achilles and the tortoise" paradox. It's just playing with infinitesimals.

@Motionless Spark: How can I escape from my own lair? I'm just out for a walk.

In a nutshell: In order to get from point A to point B, one has to first get halfway between them. In order to get there, they have to get to a point in between THOSE, ad infinitum. In order to complete a trip from one point to the next, one must first complete all trips preceedin that point, but since there are an infinite number of points, there are an infinite number of trips, so there is no "first" trip. Thus, motion is impossible.

  13. I love books. Maybe a bit too much. This morning I skipped breakfast to read a chapter in "Ask the Passengers" by A.S. King. Last night, I stayed up past midnight reading "Jellyfish Dreams" waiting for the election results that I didn't even see because it didn't matter then, I was too far into the life of Sam the Biologist who lost his fiancee. Inn the past week I've skipped math, chemistry, world history, and comp homework to work on a story and to read "A Brave New World." I have spent over twenty-four hours reading in just the past five days. I have spent just over two hours playing TF2 and just over four hours playing Bioshock in the same five days. My friends tell me I'm crazy and they are bewildered at how I can spend so much time reading. What they don't understand is that every time I pick up a book I'm thrown into a deep hunger. I must keep reading, I must continue, because as the pages of the book turn, I feel as if I am the talking the steps, saying the things. We a character does something embarrassing, I feel embarrassed. If they are thirsty, my mouth goes dry. When they are hurt physically or emotionally, I feel what they feel. I am the main character of every story I read, but when I set the book down... I cry. I have effectively just died and no amount of re-reading the book will ever change that. My own life bland and predictable, I turn to the stories of others to live for and through. People tell me it's not healthy to do this. I tell them it's not healthy to live without purpose. Without a story.
  14. My friends think its weird that I want to be a pirate when I grow up...

They're weird for thinking you're weird.

  15. I can recommend "Jellyfish Dreams" as a worthwhile, thought-provoking, and excellent title for all who are interesting in reading a unique and slightly satire book that really puts life in perspective.

  16. For those of you who know me (so approximately one or two of you), you may know of my undying love of books. You may also know my particular love for the book "Fahrenheit 451". This book brilliant tells of a distopian future were books are forbidden and a uniform "fun" is oppressed on all people. Now, after rereading this book for the umpteenth time, I decided to pick up another, similarly dark book called "A Brave New World" and following that, I decided to purchase "1984" which is another book describing a possible future. Anyway, all of these books resulted in the very obvious thought of "what if one of these books actually foretells our future?" So of course, the natural thing to do is log on to an MLP fan forums site and post a topic, asking the users for their opinions on the matter. There you have it, now discuss.
  17. My hair burns brightly like my passion for literal works and the fires of Olympus itself. Red, one might call it if they were quick to judge. As for my eyes, they emulate the deepness of my thoughts. A dark blue, not unlike the sky in the early morning or the mighty ocean. So yeah, red hair, blue eyes. Kinda weird but meh. Well, I say red, but it's more of an auburn and my eyes are more of a navy blue.

  19. Yay~! My Kindle Paperwhite came in the mail today! BRB, reading the whole Amazon e-book library.

  20. As much as I like Team Fortress 2, I can hardly say that it is my favorite game. Story is incredibly important to me in my games, so "pick-up-and-play" games aren't really my thing. Even though TF2 does have some story and the like, it's not really evident from the gameplay and only really appears to those who read up on it, pay attention, and investigate. In actuality, I have no idea what my favorite game is. Bioshock, Pokemon Black/White, and Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney Investigations are some of my favorites simply based on their stories but still, I can't quite say they are my favorite favorites.
  21. Yes, yes! Now, not only have you only literally vectored Clarity's plot, you also literally vectored Clarity's plot! If you would only be so kind as to literally vector the said plot, we would have a "literal trifecta."
  22. Eight words: the United States of America's public schooling system. In my opinion, it is one of the worst in the world, with very few students actually benefiting in the way that is expected with most learning incorrect ideas and gaining only a hatred for continued learning.
