  1. I think my main concern is the synergy between the other and Twilight. However, i'm not going into the "Twilight becoming alicorn princess ruins show, freak out now" thing with this thread since there's one already for that. I'm curious who here will have the kindness, loyalty, honesty, generosity, laughter, and sense of magical wonder to stick with the fandom. Personally, after my jimmies settled, i'm sticking with the fandom. Just like others, it's really given me something happy. Thanks to this fandom, I broke out of my depressed state and made some friends that I now chat with regularly on skype. I even have these forums, and Fimfiction for entertainment. Though i'm not too keen on the idea of Twilight becoming a Princess with it appearing to be Hasbro tweaking the show yet again, it would be rather stupid and childish of me to give all of this happiness up, returning to my depressed state over the change of 1 character.
  2. I will understand if the moderators delete this thread. There are a lot of ideas and speculation about this subject pertaining to Twilight Alicorn becoming a princess/alicorn, theories/hopes it's temporary, and what not. However, all of that aside, who here is staying apart of this fandom even after the final episode airs? Personally, i've never been prouder to be apart of a fun loving community such as this. It is kind of sappy, but i've had struggles IRL due to issues. The show kind of gave me a happy little spark that I really needed. Now with things proceeding like it is right now, I feel kinda depressed. But, I am still optimistic about things.
  3. That would be quite interesting, and maybe acceptable. Twilight creates a spell so powerful that only she can re-write it, but has to gain Celestia's power in order to stop it. As a result, our studious unicorn is forced into alicorn-hood with its responsibilities. Personally, I wouldn't mind a bit of Full Metal Alchemist where Twilight wants to get her old life back in S4. While searching for a cure, she keeps up the appearence of a princess due to Celestia's wishes.
  4. Ok all, after letting my jimmies settle, here's my line of thinking. We have seen several mentions that Celestia is not in the pictures/screenshots that were released. *If someone can post a link to the FB page with it that would be great* Meghan McCarthy points towards expanding the mythos around a Princess. Well, there is a time when a princess must step down. Agent K said to Agent J in Men In Black 1, he wasn't training a partner, but a replacement. Perhaps that is what this is all about with Twilight. Princess Celestia is stepping down as ruler of Equestria. Princess Luna, being the younger sister, will remain on as a mentor for Twilight. The studious unicorn finds herself scared at the prospect of ruling an entire nation, and, as a result, fumbles up a spell that causes everyone's destinies to switch. Things are resolved in the end, but Celestia still abdicates her throne, letting Twilight take over. I don't like the idea of Twilight becoming an alicorn because they symbolize power and look down on their subjects, even though they are friendly beings. However, I will accept the idea of Twilight taking over Princess Celestia's place as ruler of Equestria if things happen in this manner. We've seen alicorns as immortal beings, so what if there's a flaw in that idea? With all of that said however, i'm still hopeful for a temporary alicorn thing. One thing that has me curious is why Celestia is teaching Twilight advanced magical skills. There is more to it than simple ascension.
  5. Sadly, the language by Meghan McCarthy indicates that it is 100% permanent. If Twilight was simply getting an honorary title as Princess, I would be 100% for it. Here's what i'm foreseeing with the episode:
  6. Wow... I needed a good, swift kick in the balls today. My hopes, aspirations, and dreams feel like they just got flushed down the toilet. Know there are people who are going to already leave because they feel Twilight turning into a Princess... sorry, I mean an "Alicorn Princess" will be jumping the shark. I had high hopes to release Diary of the Banished, making it into a legendary piece. Now, I don't see that happening with Twilight turning princess and all this stuff. (I'm truly sorry, and sincerely apologize to everyone here. I am sorry to sound selfish about this, constantly talking about my story. It was just my dream to get it on Equestria Daily, and make this story as Legendary as Kkat's Fallout Equestria, the story Anthropology, and other tales out there by famous fan-fiction writers. Again, I am truly sorry about being selfish in this dire time for our fandom. I am not leaving the fandom. This thing that sprung up because of a cartoon brought me a lot of joy, meeting sincere, kind, and thoughtful people. It's also my downfall as i've grown overly attached to things. Right now. I really feel like things, and what I hoped to achieve feels like it was suddenly crushed, since the whole Princess thing feels like a cop out. Even though Meghan says they are creating mythos around being a princess, i'm not buying it. However, this doesn't mean i'm leaving the fandom. Like other bronies out there, I believe in the potential of the writers. They've been told to turn Twilight Sparkle into a princess. Right now, it sounds like they weren't given any specific beyond this point. For the loyal fans of the show, this gives talented writers like M.A. Larson the ability to craft a beautiful story. I will place my trust, my hopes, and my faith in Mr. Larson's abilities as a writer to craft a story to keep Bronies in the fandom.)
  7. Personally, I don't want to see humans introduced to Equestria in any way, shape, and/or form. When dealing with humanoind creatures however, that's a different story. The Minotaur was a good touch, but I would like to see a "ponytaur" type species.
  8. Ok, finished up the pen tool work for ya OP. I don't really color things since I kind of stink at it. Here's a LARGE 5760x324 inked outline. Hopefully I didn't mess with the image, and it stays true to the original form. I put it in a PNG format so you could have a transparency layer. *Edit: Sorry, quick correction. Had a SNAFU with the pen tool editor where it stroked every single line when I was working on something. Should be fixed now*
  9. Luna is probably my fav, but I gotta go with Princess Celestia. Don't know why, but I like those "motherly" types when they are done right. I do feel that Celestia's motherly/protector instincts are spot on, and if you aren't on her bad side, she is a fun loving pony. It is a dang close one since I like Luna's personality as a recluse and guardian of the night. Corey Powell's use of Princess Luna as a dream walker for Sleepless in Ponyville was magnificent.
  10. True enough, and we see that in Last Roundup. Rainbow Dash doesn't lash out at Derpy, calling her names, or anything along those lines. Even as the gleeful, googly-eyed grey pegasus shouts "Yea, Applejack! Woohooo!!!" and falls over, the atheltic pegasus just roles her eyes at the pony like "that's Derpy for you."
  11. Here's what we know so far: 1. Back before the release of S3, The Hub did a Twitter feed with Tara Strong hosting it. She stated "no, Twilight does not become an Alicorn in Season 3" to a person's reply. While it's very realistic/quite possible a representative from Hasbro, The Hub, or both was watching the feeds, coaching Tara Strong on what to say, it's also reasonable to assume she was telling the truth. Although she can be quite the troll, Tara Strong is Queen of the bronies. There are times when the voice actress knows to be serious. 2. The text from the April DVD has a good bit of flavor to it: 3. We have seen several little nuances here. Most recently, we saw a magazine promo showing Twilight looking pony with wings. However, as someone pointed out, these wings looked similar to Rarity's wings from the Sonic Rainboom. 4. Alicorns are most often portrayed as Princesses. Cadence was originally going to be a unicorn by Faust's design. This was changed. Also, during Hearts and Hooves Day, the image in the book the Cutie Mark Crusaders are looking in changes. The unicorn princess image goes from having no wings to having wings. While that can't be 100% confirmation, possibly an artistic error, we have no way of knowing. Also, we have Queen Chrysalis who, while a changeling/different species, is an alicorn type of pony having a horn and insect like wings. We cannot confirm the gender of the changelings that invaded Canterlot. If it works like bees, we have seen workers who were all female. 5. Special Note: Twilight has been steadily learning magical spells. Our first clue for the season comes from the book at the end of the second episode of Season 3, a book with some unique symbols on it. During Too Many Pinkie Pies, the adorkable unicorn is practicing an unusual spell. Now, again, while we can't confirm what she was working on and its original intention, but the pony did turn a frog and bird into an orange. It's also during Wonderbolt Academy that we hear about Twilight still practicing spells. 6. Twilight is the regular height and size of a pony. As we've seen in the show, there are few mares that have a "regal form" that Celestia, Luna, and Cadence have. So far, only Sapphire Shores and Fleur De Lis have had these body types. 7. We also received information that we would soon be learning a bit of history about Celestia and Luna. What pertains to this history is a BIG unknown factor. 8. We don't know how a pony comes into power or how Royalty truly works. If an alicorn is born, does that automatically make them a princess? I mostly say princess because all alicorns that we have seen are female. We have no information about other alicorns, and no information about "Prince" blue blood. The royal pain could have simply been adopted into royalty, though I do believe a writer said he isn't related to Celestia. Looking at the information we have, there are a number of ways that you can go. 1. Signs are really looking grim. With that book from the beginning of Season 3 and Twilight practicing what looks to be "Transformation magic," it's quite possible Celestia wants to have Twilight "fulfill" her destiny by casting her most advanced spell. The spell will transform the unicorn's body, making her take on a "regal" appearance. This “final spell” of her old life will be the Amniomorphic spell we saw Luna "potentially" using in the episode Luna Eclipsed when she transforms into Nightmare Moon. Undoubtedly, this will fulfill Hasbro's wish, turning Twilight into "pretty, pretty Princess," so they can sell those product lines. I'm still unsure of why Faust left MLPFIM, but this might be one of the issues if Hasbro was taking too many liberties with her characters. Another reason that leads to this idea is the fact Celestia sent Twilight to Ponyville to learn about friendship. Learning from ponies that represent generosity, kindness, laughter, honesty, and loyalty, it’s possible the unicorn will be the supreme wielder of the Elements of Harmony. Instead of a spell transformation Twilight, we could certainly see the potential of the elements of harmony converging in the unicorn, turning her into an Alicorn. As we saw in Return of Harmony and Keep Calm and Flutter On, if you lose an element of harmony, you lose the ability to wield their power. This also happened as Luna and Celestia had their split, thus they can’t use the power. 3. Honorary Title. I find the idea of an Honorary Title to be a best case scenario. It could be the title of Princess is bestowed onto Twilight because Cadence wants to induct her into a royal family, giving the unicorn special political powers to oversee things that have yet to come. Twilight's destiny is to take over Star Swirl the Bearded's role. His role was that of an arch magus/guardian of Equestria who faithfully served at the side of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna in their time of need. With his absence, this left a vacuum of a needed protector. It is in the anime Familiar of Zero, in one episode, that the main character Louise is granted an honorary title by royalty. Personally, I am ok with this idea. If Twilight is just granted a title, it helps to keep her firmly on the ground since it could be taken away at any point, just like her role of being Celestia’s student. Also, going back to Tara Strong’s Twitter feed from the Hub, this helps lend credence to the idea of it being an honorary title. However, there is a very BIG grey area. It’s quite possible Tara Strong may mean “Twilight Sparkle doesn’t become a permanent Alicorn” or “no, Twilight becomes an alicorn, but gives it up at the end of the episode to stay with her friends.” Also: For a show that espouses the idea of friendship and camaraderie, the potential of turning Twilight into an Alicorn, elevating the unicorn above her friends, really urinates all over the idea. It creates a huge sense of awkwardness. Another thing I’m sick of if the defense argument of “she’s a powerful unicorn that just gains wings” or “she just gains wings” with people spouting that non-stop as if it automatically halts all arguments in their tracks like some elderly crossing guard throwing up a stop sign at an intersection. Anyways, that’s just my 2 bits on this matter of Twilight becoming a Princess, turning into an Alicorn, "potentially" turning into an alicorn excuse me, and what not. I’m leaving this topic alone since this idea/topic has really been done to death. Just gives me a headache, and i'm going to enjoy the rest of the show.
  12. It's hard to say, some have been fans of the show and turned into anti-bronies, saying the current trend is ruining the fandom. They list various reasons from overindulgence in the show, NSFW images, obsession over fan created material vs canonical material, etc... . As for some of the anti-bronies out there, I think they are just looking to hate on things. Whatever crops up, they hate on it to make themselves stand out. Worst people are the "true" haters, and i'll never forget that story I read about a mom wanting to buy her son a MLPFIM toy. That person at Toys-R-Us refused to point the mother to the section the toys were in, believing the kid is a boy and thus should play with "gender appropriate" toys for kids of his age. It's those ideas, that line of thinking, dark age thinking, that truly disturbs me. Some of these people, I can't help but pity them. They have so much hate in their lives, it seems like all they will ever be is hate-filled individuals. Both offline and online no matter what comes their.
  13. Well, it looks like things are coming to fruition after seeing that post on Equestria Daily. My only question now is if Twilight turns into an alicorn. The unfortunate thing, i'm going to have say "all signs point to yes." Twilight has been tasked with learning new spells throughout season three. Our biggest hint comes from her accidentally "transforming" a bird into an orange, same with the frog. Unless we get something radically different, i'm not sure about the continued success of the show.
  14. Ok, did a quick outline with the pentool with some minor refinements. Here's the image so you can take a look at it and see what you think. Tried to stay as close to the original as possible.
  15. Depends on what you want done in all honesty. I could use the pen tool to get a rough outline and ink it out, but as for "true vectoring," where you build it with shapes, that i'm not good at. Only thing i've done is Trixie's hat and turning that into a vector was a pain in the butt.
  16. I'm using Photoshop CS5 right now. I can update the image to give everyone a much clearer idea of what i'm doing right now. For the shading, I use a cutout style from a multiply layer + a mask layer for shading in the 2.0 version. Edit Here's version 2.0. I made some modifications to the two hooves, her wings, and added in some light flares to the mane, tail, and her wings. Also added in the dutiful mail mare's mail bag, careful of the shading, and added in a moon reflection to her eyes. Picture Link Only thing I "might" do is add in a light flare to all her feathers instead of just the top ones. Again, all help is appreciated.
  17. I'm progressing steadily with some work, though i'm still stuck to being a bad artist since i'm tracing screenshots from the show. Anyways, as the title says, I could use some help with shading information. Piece Link Want to know if those shadows are alright. I'm working on version 2.0 right now and added in Derpy's mail bag with some better shading on the front hooves with some on the Pizza Box. Though i've got tons of materials in my tutorial help favorites menu ( Example Clickie Linkie Thingie ), i'm still a novice. If anyone can offer up some advice, I would be appreciative. Also, bit of shameless promotion here, I don't normally do requests, but I won't have a problem working on a person's OC if they want. Only thing to note is I will use pen tool lines from screen caps for the poses, after which i'll modify them for manes, tails, and eyes.
  18. To give some info, i'm currently writing a story about our lovable, wall-eyed mail mare. It's a self-imposed writing excercise to train myself to think quickly, giving myself 3 days for story, tweaking, tweaking, and then publishing on the 4th day. Now, to the point of the post, in Derpy Delivers a Pizza, I portray the grey pegasus as a loving mother, a caring pony, but also as a pony who has a run of bad luck who day-dreams about certain things when she is bored. To research the pony, I went to the mlpfimwiki site to get a better understanding. I was subsequently directed to the fanwiki site where I saw four categories concerning the pony. *Just putting that in spoilers to keep things clean, there's nothing degrading or spoiled* As I read these comments, watched people commenting on Derpy, and gained my own perspective, I chose a mixture of 1&2 from the list in the spoiler tag. I portray her as a loving mother as she prepares to deliver the pizza with several purposefully input scenes to show her appreciation for Dinky. Now, Derpy isn't the "brightest" of bulbs out there and doesn't use big words that would confuse her. To give a basic gist, I view Derpy a normal mare, but a simplistic one. You won't see her looking up a fancy word in a thesaurus, and would question why I would mention some dinosaur that lived quite a long time ago in history. However, though she is simplistic to a fault and won't win any prizes for inventing revoluntionary ideas, Derpy is a dutiful, loving pony that is loyal to a fault. Also, the dutiful mail mare will do what it takes to keep her "Precious muffin" (aka, Dinky) safe, and to make the little unicorn smile. From her appearence during The Last Roundup, I still wonder how people jumped to the conclusion that she was/is a "drooling idiot" who spouts nonsensical words whenever she can. Anyways, that's my take on Derpy, being a loving, caring, kind pony with a good amount of childlike innocents to help her understand things.
  19. Yes, I believe Rob Renzetti worked on Fosters as well as a couple of episodes of Samurai Jack. As to why Hasbro doesn't put it on Cartoon Network, they maybe under contract with The Hub. After the 65th episode (S3 finale) airs, that could potentially change. The contract could come up for re-negotiation where Hasbro places it on CN, but The Hub gets the new episode. Personally, I would like to see CN finance some of the episodes with Hasbro so they don't get a lot of say so with the show, however, playing devil's advocate, I think CN could really butcher the show if not careful. Not to mention CN might find it too girly. Though with the brony fandom, that may not be the case. Another problem with CN getting MLPFIM, they are super strict, and I could easily see them putting a cold steely bootheel up our fandom by ordering C&Ds everywhere, including sites like Derpibooru and Fimfic. They could even issue C&Ds to people making pony merchandise such as sculptures, original pieces, and the like.
  20. Though i'm still far behind a professional fan fic writer, and miles away from an "in the business" profession writer, I have learned a few things. One thing i've learned is that there are several thousand ways to word something and write a scene. The thing is, I have a theory on our studious unicorn. It's quite possible that during the coronation for Skyla, they have a smaller "knighting" style ceremony for Twilight. What makes me think about this is Star Swirl The Bearded, and a possible position he held. Perhaps for over several hundred years, no pony was worthy of holding a position of an Arch Mage that he did, or some similar high magical user position. Even though Twilight admitted during the Magic Duel she didn't have the power to cast high level spells such as the age spell, she is still quite the potent caster. Princess Celestia could be training Twilight to fill that role Star Swirl held, with it being a magical guardian/research of Equestria. The adorkable pony has an even greater potential because she can utilize the elements of harmony alongside her friends. There is only one thing that makes me pause. That is Celestia sending Twilight off to Ponyville to learn about friendship. It makes me wonder if the regal mare did this so her student could learn about honesty, loyalty, kindness, laughter, and generosity. We learned in the return of harmony that if each pony becomes corrupted, the element becomes rather worthless. With 1 surpreme user of the elements, you reduce the risk of this problem. If Twilight does utilize all 6 elements of harmony at once, it does make me wonder if she will become an alicorn due to their power. However, until we see the episode, there is nothing set in stone. All we know is that the finale episode is called "Princess Coronation" and Twilight shall face her destiny. Both are extremely vague with their ambiguity leaving a lot in the air. It could certainly be about Princess Cadence being "Crowned" Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, Princess and Ruler of the Crystal Empire. Definition of Coronation off of Webster's: At the end of the 2nd episode of S3, we see her leaving the Crystal Empire with Shining Armor. This probably means she isn't officially the ruler, and some information revealed during the episode makes it so she is a descendant, or is "THE" missing," Crystal Princess. It's also quite plausible that viewers could get a surprise as this little filly says "Hello auntie Twilight" with the unicorn fainting from the site of the filly. Again, it's really up in the air. However, with all of that said, i'm still going to remain optimistic.
  21. It's probably not out of the question, but it's highly unlikely. I doubt the book would represent a "How-To-Guide" that the sisters read for inducting Twilight as a Princess, turning her into an alicorn or Twilight turning herself into an alicorn.
  22. This is what I posted up on EQD since I couldn't edit my post near the front due to some stupid problem. Putting it in spoilers since it is a WOT bomb. TL;DR explanation: Scenarios: 1. Twilight becomes a princess due to her nobility with Shining Armor being married to Cadence, also some noble blood thing. During the ceremony, she is given temporary wings which fade. She is trained to use the Amniomorphic spell to give herself wings. Twilight serves as a guardian of equestria. 2. Episode is about Cadence being crowned Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, The Crystal Princess, Ruler of the Crystal Empire. We look at her ability to use the Crystal Heart, a pony shouting "Look, The Crystal Princess," and the fact the harmonious pony's crown changes when she uses the Crystal Heart, with the new crown befitting of a ruler. If you compare the current crown of Cadence to Celestia's crown and Luna's crown, it seems a bit timid. However, looking at the Crystal Princess crown when she uses the heart, it's different, befitting a ruler as said. 3. Episode is about "Dun dun dun," Princess Skyla, the baby alicorn of Shining Armor and Princess Cadence. She will be officially crowned as a Princess at the ceremony with some evil trying to rob her of the title. 4. All hope is lost, Twilight becomes an Alicorn, goes pretty princess, worries about her luxurious transformed mane, fandom goes down the tubes, Hasbro did it intentionally to kill us off -- i'm not buying this either. Though we are an unintended audience, from the census info, we are 5k+ strong. Why squash a revenue source that "more than likely" generates $100k+, *just 5k x each person spending $20 = $100k mind you.* 5. A person replied to my post and propsed an interesting idea. We learn about Celestia and Luna this season which was indicated by a show staffer. Perhaps this is a flash back episode where viewers are given a glimpse into the past of the two princesses. It's not a huge glimpse, but enough to let us understand how they came to power, and perhaps who their parents were/are in Equestria.
  23. I don't think it represents boredom, but Hasbro preparing to push more products. For me, personally, I do not want an Alicorn Twilight. However, I am 100% ok if she learns new spells, including the Amniomorphic spell. If the Amniomorphic spell enables the studious unicorn to grant herself wings on occassion with consequences, like draining her magic unlike the Princesses who have permanent wings, then I would be accepting of the idea. Same would go for a temporary state where Twilight "powers up," producing ethereal wings that go away. Though Tara Strong is Queen of the Bronies and teacher of Trollestia, she did say in that Hub chat before the season began that Twilight wasn't going to become an Alicorn. It can be taken either way, but i'm going to have faith that she doesn't become one. Instead, as mentioned above, an event causes her to transform into an alicorn, but the power goes away and she returns to being a normal unicorn.
  24. Gotta go with Twilight, saying I represent isolation. Though I have friend right now, i'm pretty dang isolated. My idea of a good night is just staying at home by myself when others would want to go party. It's to the point that I feel like I would be a jerk if I joined in, which is why i'll make excuses at times to stay home, further isolating myself.
  25. I think that's where S3 is better than S1 and S2 since it's been about Character building and World Building. We've gained the Crystal Kingdom, a continuity for Timber Wolves, a new species (Fruit Bats), and learned how each pony of the Mane6 has grown. Pinkie Pie proved this in S2 where she learned about responsibility with the cake twins, and then grew with Too Many Pinkie Pies when she had the capacity to realize she messed up, fixing the problem in the process. I do believe Lauren Faust laid the groundwork for the show, but the show will still exist without her. The role she played in S2 was minor, proving that it can exist without its creator.
