Book Mark

Book Mark is an Alicorn from a distant land, she took up resedence in Canterlot recently though, running a small library. its unclear how she became an alicorn, or if like Flurry Heart she was born that way, not that it matters as she has her wings covered most of the time, and most would not realise she was anything but a unicorn without scrutiny.

some of the ponies coming though say she told them the story of her cutie mark: Book Mark's school grade took a trip to the city library, to learn about how books are sorted and shelved, as well as to find books to use for an upcoming project. while the other students where rambunctious handfuls, easily found when time came to leave, Book Mark was not, quiet and very socialy inept, she had found a quiet spot behind a huge bookshelf to hide herself away in, reading book after book. The teachers rounded up the other students and headed back to the schoolhouse, in the chaos of 6 classes worth of students getting onto the school's transportation, Book Mark herself was forgotten, just as she had forgotten about going back to school.

it wasn't until later, when the librarian was doing a check though the bookshelves for any idling ponies or leftover trash to be picked up before the library closed was Book Mark found, surrounded by books of too high a level for her grade. the school and her parents where called at once, when they arrived they where quite surprised to see a brand new cutie mark that both her teacher and parents denied being there before. though questions arose wether she would have discovered it sooner if only the school allowed students books above their grade level.

ok actual backstory now

after earning her cutie mark, Book Mark quickly discovered her ability to teach others how to think outside of the box. her talent was a multifaceted one, to read and understand most anything in front of her, to be able to think and explore outside of the box and to teach others to the same. the other students in her class quickly begain to look to her for help on thier projects, sure on the informational side of things, she was certainly helpful when it came to that, but more so on ways to make the more dull class projects more intersting. 

once graduated she begain to do the same for others. as the number of people who asked for help grew, the more attention she gained from more royal eyes. those eyes watched as she helped ponies who needed a fresh prespective recive it, and help ponies who found everything around them drab and dull find the magical in even the simplest of things. not the most magical of gifts, especially not for a unicorn, but quite the powerful gift non the less, especially for a pony who rarely spoke and even then only short, quiet sentences when absolutely necessary. Celestia, seeing the sheer potential in Book Mark, chose to take the young unicorn in, training her, teaching her, before finally granting her wings and a title. a title that she eventually gave up, beliving herself able to rule due to her limited speaking range.

she chose to travel, to help ponies as she had before, and in so doing began to hide her wings, not due to shame but to limit the attention she got. she wished to move freely without the attention being an alicorn would bring to her. she chose the wings due to the fact that a horn is rather awkawrd to hide without a questionably large hat, especially indoors, and wings could easily be hidden beneath a thick sweater and a hoovewaved "I get cold easy"

after several centeries of travel, Book Mark became tired of travel, and decided to settle down, at least for a while, she bought a building in canterlot, where she set up a library, one she hopes will inspire a new generation of ponies to earn their cutie marks and go forth on their own adventures

Book mark is very very quiet, rarely speaking unless there is no other practical way of communicating something. many visitors to her library suspect she has ASD, but she wont conferm anything. she adores working with children and helping to spark imagination in others.
