Appearance:

Avarus is a small, brilliant red squirrel with pointed ears that have small gray-black tips, like a white-tipped reef shark (not really a good comparison, but this one attribute is similar) and a long, puffy tail with some gray-black tipped hairs. He has small, pink hands and feet that are adorned with well-kept claws. His eyes are large with very white whites and jet-black irises, causing a sharp contrast. His eyes are intelligent. If you stare at him for a long period of time, you will begin to feel unsettled, as his eyes are very deep. His nose is pink, similar to his hands, and twitches when he is thinking. When he speaks, his voice is a gentle, unbroken harmony of seemingly everything good in the world coming together. When he walks, he may also hover or fly. He likes to jump from tree to tree, and can teleport over great distances.

Personality:

He is carefree and joyful, often singing or humming to himself or to others. He has a huge penchant for parties and celebrations, and will go to great lengths to throw enjoyable parties for his friends or companions. He also enjoys a bit of quiet now and then, and prefers to withdraw from others to rest when he needs to. He is almost never saddened, but the death or harming of a friend or sacred place can make him furious. When he is in a rage, many avoid him as he is likely to curse anypony that even slightly offends him. When things get tough, or a war or conflict breaks out, he will protect the forest over anything else with an energy.

Backstory:

At the beginning of time, when the very first beings appeared (don’t ask me how or when or why) they began to shape the world around them. Avarus was created as a sort of joke, the very idea of a squirrel god being laughable. He came into existence anyway. As soon as he was created, he began to create a small section of forested woods and to protect them from the other gods, who were tiny at the time. Over the years, Avarus grew his forest and defended it from invaders seeking its greatest treasure: the Tree of Power. This tree bore magical fruit that gave empowering properties to the consumer of its fruit. When a fruit was eaten, a pony might be stronger or faster or smarter, but some fruit also had negative effects. The good fruit was indistinguishable from the bad fruit to any mortal or immortal other than Avarus. Still, thieves were willing to take the risk because the effects were lifelong. They dreamed of the unimaginable power and skill that would come from the fruit, and were desperate. However, Avarus stood his ground. Though he was tiny, with his power he managed to fend off all of the would-be thieves of the tree. He watched Equestria grow and develop from the heavens, wondering what would happen next. Each time disaster struck, Avarus watched in earnest as heroes in Equestria destroyed and battled each threat. His curiosity grew, and he started making journeys down to Equestria itself. He explored every crevice and crack of it, from Tartarus to Cloudsdale, and fell in love with it. He visited there often, and still does.
