• Bluestruck Gale

    Scribblegroove

    • Age: Young adult. In human years around 25

      Gender: Male

      Species: Pegasus

Appearance: Bluestruck Gale has a misty-blue coated color, and his mane is hay-blonde. His hair hasn't been combed or cared for very thoroughly, so his appearance might be a bit scruffy. His eyes are a much brighter blue in comparison to the rest of his coat, and are so vibrant with color that they seem to shine.

Cutie Mark: His cutie mark resembles a large cog with a spark of magic in the middle. It resembles his ability to synergise technology and magic, and his creative ability in engineering and industrial design.

Personality: Gale is a very outgoing and social stallion. He knows how to talk to others, soscialise with them, and on a business level he even knows how to sell himself, his talents and negotiate about things. Though he doesn't make many new friends, he can try to make companions out of others for a short while, though he knows it is likely he wont see them again. He is slightly manipulative, but he isn't keen on playing on other ponies' feelings. Being witty and talkative, he can easily start a conversation with anypony. The sense of nonchalance and informality that he carries with him adds to his ability to make friends.

However, Gale is extremely lazy. Always procrastinating the things he has to do, and sometimes even the things he wants to do to lay around and do nothing all day. He can work hard if he's motivated enough, but he usually cannot bring up the motivation himself. Other have to do it for him, which can be very frustrating at times and make him quite unreliable. At the same time he is very good at keeping track of everything that has to be done, so he can make up an excuse for everything on beforehand. If he actually gets to work, he puts this talent to good use by managing, organising and planning on a very large scale. He could run a large business if it weren't for his relentless laziness.

Backstory: Bluestruck Gale was born in ponyville, at almost precisely the same time as Bluestruck Flare, his twin sister. His father, a unicorn called Stardust, had married his mother, a Pegasus named Seraphim Sapphire in canterlot, the city the two of them called home. At the time Seraphim was already pregnant, and during their honeymoon they got Gale and Flare as two unusual little gifts. Though it had of course caused a lot of stress to the couple they couldn't be happier.

Even though Gale's parents had adventurous spirits and a passion for travelling, having children forced them to settle down. Both Gale and Flare lived their early years in Canterlot. There they went to preschool together and lived relatively happily. As his sister’s talent in magic rapidly progressed, Gale found himself to be rather interested in mechanics and machinery. He was fascinated with the machinery in trains, and the way they worked, wondering how exactly things like that were made.

But a terrible event occurred. Stardust, who was a prodigious mage and astronomer, was offered his dream job, but it would require him to work far more for his research, and perhaps even move to the crystal empire for a few years. He had to choose between his family and his dream career. Sadly, he chose to abandon his family, leaving Seraphim to care for two children on her own. They divorced in waves of fighting and silent hatred. It did not do good for their children. It scarred them a little.

Through Stardusts influence in the Canterlot society, Seraphim slowly became an outcast to those who she previously called her friends. The neighbourhood they had lived him started to despise her, and a lot of awful gossip and outright lies forced her to move to a different place. Back to where Gale and Flare were born. Ponyville. There they continued to grow up, and lived peacefully again, though sad about what had happened.

In ponyville, Gale’s fascination of machinery remained. It had started with the trains, but later he tried to investigate the rainbow factory, hot-air balloons and the strange steam-powered car with two strange salesmen that had come by ponyville once. Even the smallest things such as door hinges or cash registers interested him. How where those little metal things made? How did they work and who thought of them? He began tinkering with metal bits, springs, cogs and screws he gathered himself , and when his mother found out about his talents she started to encourage him and brought him all sorts of used pieces of mechanics and machinery, expecting something that might lead up to his cutie mark. Some of the broken ones he repaired, some of the wrecked ones he used to make new things.

As Flare and Gale finished their Schooling in ponyville, the both of them started to take interest in each other’s talents. Gale tried to understand how exactly unicorn magic worked, and what great things Flare could do with it. At the same time, Flare often watched Gale as he tried to tinker with small bits to make contraptions, or when he explained the things he had learned from endlessly questioning ponies at the rainbow factory or the machinists at the ponyville station. One night, the both of them snuck into a stationary train that wouldn’t depart until next morning, taking the opportunity to get a close look at one of the most advanced pieces of machinery that they could imagine.

Eventually, Gale couldn’t refrain from trying to pull bits and pieces apart to see how they worked. Taking lots of bits apart, his sister started to fear that he wouldn’t know how to put it back together again. However, Gale seemed to precisely remember every step he had taken backwards again, displaying a technical insight that not many ponies had. Of course, being young and inexperienced as he was, a few pistons had gotten stuck and wouldn’t come loose anymore. About to give up, his sister reminded him that now that he’d taken it apart, he had to put it together as well. With the help of her magical abilities they managed to fix the entire engine, and even clean out most of the dirt and filth that had gathered there over the years. What they didn’t know themselves was that they hadn’t put it together exactly as it had been in the first place. No, with their own technical insight and collaboration of magic and machinery, they had dramatically improved the trains engine power!

They returned home very early in the morning where a very concerned mother had just woken up to see that her two foals weren’t in bed, nor in the rest of the house. She exclaimed her anger and disappointment in them sneaking away that night, and also asked them why they were covered in smears of coal, grease and filth. Looking at each other in surprise, they hadn’t noticed the black smudges all over their own bodies in the darkness of the night. Frustrated, their mother told them to wash it off in the river. Tired as they were, since they hadn’t slept all night, they simply did as their mother said.

With the sun rising in the horizon, they could now clearly see. After bathing in the stream of the river for a while, they emerged, and both shrieked in amazement, pointing out to each other that a mark had appeared on their flanks, proceeding to both look at their own. That night their talent had revealed itself to them, and they hadn’t even noticed up until now. When they returned home and explained to their mother what happened, she was proud but at the same time concerned. Two young ponies taking apart an advanced piece of machinery like that… She quickly ran to the station to inform the machinist, with her progeny in her wake, where they were just in time to see the train riding off at incredible speed, flawlessly disappearing in the horizon.

When Gale reached his adolescence, his life changed. Flare displayed the same talent in magic as her father, and even though it pained her mother’s hart she decided she wanted to continue her studies in magic back in Canterlot. She promised to visit and write often, and it made her really happy when her mother finally agreed. A bit jealous of his sister starting to chase her dreams, he tried to find a place where he could thrive as well. Being a pegasus, to him the most logical conclusion was to join a flight academy. Though he was fairly talented as a flier, he wasn't as good as he hoped to be and not nearly good enough to become famous. Becoming more envious of his sister each time he didn't achieve his goals, he started to visit the rainbow factory now and then to calm himself. The machinery and research that all the pegasi did there fascinated him, and each time he came there he started to learn more. He even got to help the workers at the factory sometimes, and felt amazing when they prized his talent. A few years passed like that, and he tried to visit his sister as often as he could. Something had changed however. It was as if they weren’t as close as they used to be.

But then his mother recieved message from the Canterlot academy where Flare was currently studying. Her direct mentor reported she was being bullied quite severely, and was attempting to hide it from others, including her family. He advised they’d visit her and talk about this, since he was worried that she had bottled up her feelings for quite a long time now. During all their visits she had indeed never said a thing about other students or being bullied at all. Gale was furious about it, and the first thing he did was hop on the train to Canterlot, find his sister and hug her tightly. For the first time in years they could let out their emotions unhindered by anything, opening up to each other like they used to do when they were younger. They’d have to miss each other for far too long, and he promised it wouldn’t be like that anymore.

Knowing that his sister would need his support, he came to live with her in Canterlot, leaving his mother alone. She decided to pick up her old habit of travelling again, knowing that her two little foals weren't foals anymore, and could take care of themselves and each other. While his sister finished her studies with much more confidence now that her brother was by her side, gale was accepted for an internship at a train engine manufacturer in Canterlot. Learning the ins and outs of the trade there, and learning how to make all sorts of other things besides engines, such as much more complex contraptions like turbines and dynamos, he couldn’t be happier.

Finally, both Flare and Gale had finished their training and were more than proficient enough to do things for themselves and make a living. Gale was offered a job with the engine manufacturer, but even though he was very tempted, he politely denied, keeping it secret from his sister. He knew that they were a great team, and wouldn’t want their potential to go to waste. Working together more than ever, they started researching new ways to construct all sorts of enchanted pieces of technology, receiving funding from the Canterlot academy as well as a few technological manufacturers.
