• Catastrophe (Cat)

    rageskittles23
    • Age: 21

      Gender: Female

      Species: Unicorn

Appearance: Cat has a brown coat and electric yellow eyes. She is of average height and is a little chubby. Her mane, which she wears in a ponytail, is dark brown and long. Her tail is worn loose. She wears a burgundy cloak with a heart-shaped clasp to hide the midnight blue, almost black, spot on her back.

Cutie Mark: Her cutie mark is a video game controller surrounded by a ball of electricity. She got it when she figured out how to use her magic to power electronics indefinitely. She doesn't use that ability for much else besides gaming though.

Personality: I suppose the best word to describe Cat would be anti-social. She isn't shy, because she has no problem greeting others, she just doesn't feel the need to carry a conversation. She also doesn't really know how, causing any conversation she may have to dwindle off into awkward silence. Small talk is her worst enemy, and she'd rather be a background pony than a mane character. Sh
e does, however, treasure any friends she makes, and will do anything for them. Her lack of social skill can get to her at times, causing her to stutter and grow insecure; even going so far as to not say anything, for fear of annoying those around her.
Cat loves video games and TV shows, and can go on all day about those. She always had her GameBoy (or whatever the MLP: Fim version is called) with her, and her room is filled with trinkets from her favorite games. She's also fiercely competitive, and will not hesitate to bad mouth the game if things don't go her way.
She's secretly a hopeless romantic and falls hard. She used to fall quick, but after countless heartbreaks, she's learned to keep to herself when it comes to love.
She has a huge appetite when it comes to curiosity. Whenever she says, "I'm curious," it's over. She spent a week without sleep once, trying to find out the reason behind the enjoyment Canterlot ponies have in tormenting others, but she gave up in the end. She usually spends hours on the levels in her video games, trying to explore every nook and cranny.

Backstory: Catastrophe was born on the road, to a pair of traveling gypsy ponies. Something went wrong with her birthing, and her mother didn't make it, only having enough time to name her before dying. Her father despised her, and ended up putting her up for adoption when she was old enough to function by herself. After many years of torment from the other ponies in her orphanage, torment brought on by the birthmark on her back and her inability to use her magic, she took on the nickname Cat and started keeping to herself more. She was adopted by a unusual couple, an earth pony mother and dragon father, and moved to a small town just outside of Manehatten. There, she developed a love for gaming, started making friends, even learning how to use her magic. That all changed when she was 12. She was a late bloomer, yet to have received her cutie mark and only able to muster a few spells, and a colt she liked noticed that and started bullying her. Eventually, it snowballed into Cat becoming the laughing stock of her classes. She, once again, withdrew into herself, only keeping one friend, her older stepsister Thundergem (who will have a bio later, I like her character too!).
About two months before her 13th birthday, she was walking home from school, playing her GameBoy. She bumped into an older filly, a unicorn named Golden Dream, who immediately started picking on her. It ended with Cat in the dirt on the side of the road, and her GameBoy broken and batter-less. She ran home, crying, stormed up the stairs, and flung herself into her room. Her mind crumbled and the mental block she had regarding her magic was erased by her anger and misery, leaving her mind free and clear(after a good cry, of course). She picked up her broken Gameboy with her magic and stared at it glumly, then got an idea. She remembered learning about electricity and magic, more specifically how close magic is to electricity. She wondered if it were possible to power electronics using magic, and how long it would last. After a long night of straining her magic and her mind, she was finally able to feel a small spark of power in her system. She grabbed at it with her magic and pushed hard, trying to match the frequency and pattern. She was sweating by then, but her mind was too wrapped up in the game to notice. As she explored the spark, she grew accustomed to her magic, and was able to mold it to the form the system needed. The spark became a stream, and the stream became a volcano, literally exploding with power. She withdrew herself from it with difficulty, her mind and being wanting to stay and bask in the electric flow, and focused on the GameBoy with bated breath. She laughed happily when she heard the reassuring ping of her game as it started up, and grew even happier when she realized she had gotten her cutie mark! It was a few weeks before she finally understood it's meaning, strangely coming to her in a dream.
When Cat was 18, she decided to move out and travel the world, much to the annoyance of her parents. It was her dream to bring the joys of video games to the big city, and she wanted to do that with an arcade. She didn't worry about money, because she had evolved her magic and practice, and was now able to power multiple electronics for hours and hours. She set off for Canterlot with only her games and her cloak, given to her by her mom. When she got to Canterlot, she went straight to the nearest arcade, hoping to get a job. In the end, however, she was only able to get work as a computer tech, which took advantage of her knowledge in electronics. While on a call with a customer, she overheard a conversation about a two-headed dog getting loose from Taurus. Her curiosity got the better of her and she asked about it. She learned about a small town called Ponyville and the many strange and magical things that happened there on a weekly basis. That night she made a goal for herself; save up enough bits to quit her job and travel to Ponyville.
