• Defiant Defender (Finished)

    DarkDark5p
    • Age: 24

      Gender: Male

      Species: Unicorn

Appearance: Defiant Defender is an Elite member of the Canterlot royal guard. When not wearing his golden armor, he appears as a simple white unicorn stallion, whose
Short mane ran up the back of his neck, , progressively growing longer as it reached his head, yet it still stayed in its back swept fasion, giving him a refined look. It's colors alternated between a cream yellow and a lighter yellow. It did this in three striped sections, starting from cream, light yellow, and back to cream.

His medium-length tail simply was a cream yellow, without any seperate colors running through it.

When wearing his armor, it covered him as much as it could without limiting mobility. His helm covered his head, surrounding it except for his muzzle, eyes, and ears. The armor itself was simple enough for him to remove, but for him to put on the body plate, he required assistance from fellow guards.

Cutie Mark: Defiant Defenders cutie mark was the frontal image of a steel shield, with purple streaks jettisoning off the shield in a dome-like pattern.

      Personality: http://www.seemypersonality.com/Personality-Report?u=PIx4x4931146-4100259xe41D8x4#tab-2

120 question personality test taken from an In-character perspective.

Defiant Defender, as a member of the royal guard, is a brave, stoic individual. He's always ready to step in when somepony is in danger.

However, as brave as he is, he knows when it's time to either retreat or surrender. Better to live to fight another day than to die today. Unless his motive is to stall the opponent, he won't stay in a fight he knows he is losing.

Take off the armor, though, and he's a sociable character, without the need to display an example of himself.

It's the difference between whether you see him wearing a serious, fearless expression, or if he's wearing a smile.

Backstory: Defiant Defender's backstory is based off a create your own adventure character path that I created ( and promptly abandoned in favor of giving each character an official story)

Long, Canon unfriendly, copied directly from Fimfiction version:

The Warrior
Born in Canterlot, you were a unicorn... But there was something very wrong with you....

You couldn't use magic... Every spell you tried, never worked, your horn never even glowed. You couldn't even levitate a feather sitting only inches in front of you.

This was a horror to your parents, both of whom were distinguished unicorns in the royal guard. It was just impossible for you to use magic.

But not to worry...that's the only grievance to be told.

Upon taking you to see a doctor, to see what was wrong, there seemed nothing out of the ordinary... In fact, magic stronger than any ever seen in a unicorn was surging through every cell in your body...

The only reason you couldn't cast spells was that somehow, that magic was being used.....

The doctor attempted to use his own magic to figure out what was wrong, to try and free the apparent block on you, only to be knocked out cold by an unseen force...

It was when he woke that he explained what he witnessed: All that powerful magic coursing through you was for some reason, unwillingly, being channeled into a counter-spell protecting you from all forms of magic.

In your later years, this spell still cancelled your magic, but it grew more powerful as you aged. By the time you entered training as a cadet in the royal guard, it was apparently even able to counter a moderate blast from Celestia herself.

A powerful counter-spell indeed.

However, it always taxed you, and countering spells exhausted your stamina, even if you had no ability to turn it off. You could easily shrug off a spell or two, even by the most powerful of unicorns, but a prolonged fight would beg to lead to your capture.

You trained as an elite among the royal guard. The gryphons had mages as well, in the form of Battlespeakers , who sang fire, ice, fear, and weakness to Equestria, but glory, power, and healing to the Gryphonlands.

The gryphons also had unicorns among the agents they seeded loyalty into, granting them power at a moments notice.
You were known as "Shatterspell", due to your power to counter such magic. You were able to reflect any bolt or beam, and, if you led a charge, the Battlespeakers mind-magic would be held back, going no further than your position.

You alone were the cause of victory at the Charge of Horseshoe Mountain, where it was documented that the most Battlespeakers had been fielded by the Gryphonlands, an astounding 15 of them. That many could of sang loud enough to shatter the will of ponies miles ahead. The mind-magic didn't drain you, and you were able to allow the equestrian forces to get close enough to clash the gryphon army.

To say you had a hidden blessing would be an understatment.

After the war ended, you put your abilities to furthur use by engaging in mercenary work. Ponies started turning to crime in the aftermath of towns being destroyed and evacuated. Raids by these ponies destroyed even more towns, but of particular note, you were hunting a certain band of these raiders.

'Dark Deliverance', they were called, led by a powerful unicorn named Blinking Dagger. He was the strongest among the agents of the gryphons, yet he was never caught. He formed his band from fellow traitors, and of the poor who didn't know who he was until it was too late to leave the crew.

He was your final goal, but you had a long way to go before you could face him. You had to find out where Dark Deliverance was, and that was no easy task, considering they exterminated the populace when raiding. It was a simple strategy to surround the area with the elite of the crew, and allow the recruits charge in to prove their weight in blood.

ANYTHING seen coming out of the town that was either hurt, or wasn't carrying a weapon was immediatly killed by the bandit elite, regardless of who they were.

Such were the crimes you swore to see brought to justice. You had contact with the guard, but traveling as a legion would slow you down and leave you prone to ambush.

So now alone, you find yourself at a town, and there seems to be a lost foal around the area... By still being a member of the guard, duty called you to help.

So where will you look first, hero?

____________________________________________

Canon friendly, shorter version:
Defiant Defender was born in Canterlot, to who were two of Canterlots most talented unicorn guards.

So it was a shocking surprise to discover that he could not use magic. At all.

Worried as they would be, Defiant Defender was taken to multiple doctors, who all stressed that "The young unicorn was very gifted for his age, and surpassed the magical aptitude for 94% of the total unicorn population.

His parents believed that to be true, and decided to wait for his abilities to emerge. They never did.

It was at this point the doctors decided to actually analyze him.

He was indeed naturally gifted in p his magic, but there was a simple reason that he couldn't use it: it was already used for another spell. Simple as that. However, it was very unprecedented of for a young unicorn to maintain a spell for an extended period of time.

The solution was to remove the spell via concentration break, or by breaking the spell with another spell.

It did not work as planned, for when the doctor attempted to break the spell, he was stricken by a crippling headache.

A Counter-spell. Defiant Defenders magic was all coursed into a single, powerful, and persistent counter-spell. A spell that couldn't be deactivated. Not even by the caster.

He grew up similar to how an earth pony would, unable to use his magic for anything else. He couldn't even levitate a feather.

He joined the royal guard as a cadet at the age of 6, and trained alongside his mother and father. As he grew, so did his magical ability. But it still was taken place by what he could not dispel.

The counter spell certainly had its perks, of course, as any magic meant to strike or harm him was negated, or at least caused livery minimal damage. In fact, mind magic simply could not even pass him, not even to reach a different target.
Anypony attempting to crack the spell would suffer for it.

Not even the Princess of the sun herself could remove the spell, and it was powerful enough to stop a moderate blast from her.

However. The spell came at a price, not just the fact he couldn't use magic.

Magic requires energy in order to work. Defiant defender could sit and shrug off multiple blasts from a unicorn of lbelow average skill, as his magical power exceeded theirs greatly.

But a unicorn of average, and above average skill could beat him by default. He could very well feel the toll of deflecting, reflecting, and stopping magical blasts.

His abilities work wonders, and he would be virtually unstoppable in a short fight.

But if he was locked in a prolonged battle, he would lose due to exhaustion.

This character isn't new, nor is he created to match anything. 'The' Defiant Defender is my interesting take on a warrior class in a warrior, Rogue, Mage rpg style fiction.I made characters you would not picture the first Time you heard "pony(class)"

The mage class is a Pegasi, for Example. A Pegasi trained and able to use their weather manipulation abilities from a distance, through the use of a magical scepter.

The rogue class is an earth pony Beasttamer who adopted the path of the wilds, as did Fluttershy ( long story short, her home got totally wrecked during wartime. Many of the animals died, and she vowed not to let a critter be harmed from the cause of war. Oh yeah, and there's a war.
