Diamond Lust
    • Age: 21

      Gender: Female

      Species: Unicorn

Appearance: A coat of pristine white covers her small, nearly foal-like body; A mane of brilliant, near electrical blue flows down to her shoulder blades in a thick, sometimes, especially in the mornings, messy cascade. Her tail, same color and lushness of her mane flows, after rising into the air in a small wave, however it pleases, down to maybe a hoof off the ground. All of the color seems to be almost hoof-crafted to enhance any source of light, no matter how small, to better illuminate dark places. Her eyes, more used to darkness of deep caves, have a nearly ever-present slight squint, giving her a somewhat ponyriental look. Her pupils, one deep diamond red, other frozen diamond blue, depending on the lights around both glint black or white, whenever she is excited.. or inebriated.

Cutie Mark: Diamond got her cutie mark in a surprisingly quick and simple way: It was her sixth birthday, and her parents had allowed her to go out in the mines by herself for the first time. Overjoyed at her newfound freedom she skipped through the familiar tunnels not paying too much attention to what is around. A jaunty tune in her heart and on her lips, she turned down a new tunnel that she hadn't been taken to before, and would have continued to skip ahead carefree, but something caught her attention. It was a deep crack in the wall with the side of a gem barely visible through it. Now, gems aren't an uncommon sight in a mine like this, but that one just somehow had caught her gaze. She reached into her small saddlebag and pulled out her miniature pick and began on working to extract the gem.

A good half an hour later, the dirt-covered filly finally managed to pull the lumpy diamond out of the wall. She brought it to her nose with her magic and looked at it carefully. She somehow felt that there is a shape in it, a shape covered with excessive.. stuff of itself, she tried to explain it to herself as she continued to gaze into the stone. Finally, she set it down and raised the pickaxe tentatively. After letting it hover over the slab for a little while, she took a deep breath, and concentrated her magic to bring the point of the pick in a very special spot that.. felt right, and, to her surprise, the slab nearly shattered, chunks falling off the sides, as well as some dust rising off of it. "I broke it.." she thought to herself dejectedly for a moment, until all the excessive pieces fell away, revealing a a gem that sparkled like none she had seen before.

Mere minutes later she had run back to her parents, the sparkly gem in mouth. "MOMF, DAA!" she shouts around the gem as she runs up to her parents, who were looking at her curiously, first because of the commotion, but soon because of all the lights playing on the walls ahead of their daughter. "Where did you find this?" Relentless asks after taking a close look at the gem. "I made it out of a dull one!" Diamond answers happily, almost jumping in place of excitement. "Did you rea-..." He begins to ask, but stops as he sees his daughter's flank, and bursts out in a laugh. "That's my daughter!" He shouts mirthfuly, " a chip *snort* of the old block!" he finishes, picking up Diamond and wrapping her in a tight hug. "Huhwha?" is all Diamond manages to get out in response. As an answer, Relentless just smiles and points at her flank where a two perfect diamonds split apart by a gold pickaxe can be seen.

Personality: Cheerful and bright, as she used to joke, "It suits my fur." Never really giving into sadness, feeling that every new day is something that will bring something new, even if it is just new thoughts, and that a life like that cannot be stolen by sadness. From a young age she has had a quick temper, but prefered to settle things with words.. for the most part. Having had the first taste of spirits at a fairly young age, she found it to be to her liking, and, on occasion, gets carried away when having a drink; she is a talkative drunk, sometimes losing thread of sense and talking gibberish, but threads of logic usually are woven in what she says. She also has a bad habit of getting tunnel vision when encountering something she feels can be cut perfectly, be it a gem, or something like an argument. She is also very stubborn - if she thinks she is right, she will defend her position quite fiercely; a couple times she has even gotten into a brawl over a disagreement on fairly simple things.

Backstory: Diamond, as well as her conception, was something truly unexpected; An elderly couple, after trying fruitlessly to have a child, had finally given up and decided to give themselves wholeheartedly to their calling - mining for gems. Having said their goodbyes to their friends, they packed up and moved to a small shack in the mountains to live out their lives in each others' company doing what they liked.

Autumns, springs, winters, and summers, all passed nearly unnoticed to the two as the now more friends than a married couple, worked in their small mine, sometimes not bothering to see daylight for weeks at a time, for they loved and respected their tunnels even more than their cosy little shack. It was on one of these long excursions down the mine that the husband, Relentless Pick, struck a wall that nearly disintegrated in a small dust cloud. More curious than surprised, he called his wife, Core Seer, over to bring a light. Looking beyond the newly opened wall, they saw a dark, smooth passage that twisted into a corner barely a few steps in. They looked at each other, both sporting mirroring glints in their eyes before, without saying a word, stepping through the hole and down the passage.

A bent followed the first, then another, then even more, and soon, the ponies had lost track of time, but continued on nonetheless . After yet another bend, Relentless turned to face his wife and managed to say, "Do you-..." before the ground disappeared from beneath their hooves and they fell into the darkness, their torch going out as it hit a damp patch of moss before following them.

"Ow" was the astute summation of the situation by Relentless as he rolled onto his stomach after having hit the bottom of wherever they fell down. "While I agree," chimed in his wife, "a fall like that should have probably hurt more." her remark not one of surprise, but rather born of years of experience in mines that included a few falls here and there. "Quite..." replied Relentless, not really picking up on the idea as his mind busied itself around unsuccessfully trying to ignore his body telegraphing a sudden feeling of spryness that had been gone for many a year. "Let me just get a light," he said, reaching into his saddlebag for a new torch, and quickly lighting it with practiced ease, when the world exploded to the two ponies.

Seconds, or minutes, later, they both had managed to open their eyes, their vision still blurry from the sudden nova of light as thousands upon millions of surfaces suddenly reflected the light off of their torch. They were in a chamber made and filled with gems of every imaginable size, shape, and color. After a little while longer, their minds getting over the second shock, they finally looked at one another, as if to see something that is real, and cannot be just a dream, when they got their third shock! "C-...Corey..?" "P-...Picky..?" they both rasped out each others pet names in unison, their minds not even able to reel any more from the cascade of shocks they experienced in a short burst of mindblown fireworks. There, standing in front of each other were two young lovers, the last fifty years of age dropped from bodies, and soon, their minds as near-forgotten love rekindled into a supernova. Without question or hesitation, they both took a step forwards and locked their lips in a passionate kiss, as their bodies entwined and they fell onto a bed of diamonds...

Neither of them remembered how they got out of the room, nor could they find it when they tried coming back to it. But they didn't question anything of what happened that night, as their love was once more a bright fire, created by their hearts becoming one, made larger than ever by the joining of the third heart - a foal growing in Seer's womb. Years of working in a mine had made her strong, so, despite her rather old age, Seer carried the child well, and, after what seemed just days to the overjoyed parents, the first cry of a newborn foal echoed throughout their beloved caves.

Without even discussing it beforehoof, they both knew what will her name be, and so, Diamond Lust was born.

XxXxXxXxXxX

Diamond grew up with her parents, spending most days in the mines, rarely staying at home, and, on occasion, going down the mountain to the local village to either trade for supplies, or to hang out with ponies she enjoyed spending time with.

Her diminutive stature gave her some problems when she started going to the village by herself, at early teens, but that stopped quite soon as a colt who was getting too loud and personal found himself resting against a wall, upside down, with his tail covering his face after an unexpected buck from the unicorn. Later that evening he, his friends, and Diamond were sharing a drink of mountainberry juice and laughing over each others' shortcomings.

She enjoyed going to the village from time to time, but, not having found anypony who liked the darkness and the night as much as she does, she didn't really make any friends there. It was because of that, several years later, when she turned twenty one, she left the mountains with no regrets or sadness...

It was a calm February evening and Diamond was deep inside the mine doing what she liked best - looking for perfect gems. Feeling out a wall, and giving it a testing tap with a hoof, she was somewhat surprised that it crumbled in a small cloud of dust. Immediately the story her parents told her all those years ago came to her mind, and she sat down for a moment, debating with herself whether to get her parents or not, but decided against it fearing she might not be able to find the entrance again, so she quickly got up, grabbed a torch from a wall, and stepped in.

"After all the years of looking for it, I find it by accident..." she murmured to herself, yet, despite the grumbling tone, a small grin played on her muzzle. Step after careful step she slowly moved forward, all the time looking under her hooves, not wanting to drop quite like her parents had, until she come up to a hole in the ground. She tilted her head to the side, thinking of how to better get down the hole, when the problem solved itself as a patch of ground gave way and she slid down on her bottom.

"Ow..." she uttered as she slowly sat up, rubbing at her somewhat tender bottom, but the pain was immediately forgotten because the torch had finally tumbled down, illuminating the enchanted cavern. Just like her parents had told her, just like she had imagined for all those years, it was breathtakingly beautiful.

Heartbeat by heartbeat, for time felt too rough of a concept to pass through the cavern, Diamond slowly looked around until her eyes came upon the bed of diamonds she had gotten her mother to tell her about once she was a bit older and wanted to know more about the cave. Thereupon, embracing each other, lay her parents; peaceful and together, a life behind them, an eternity in front of them.

Diamond closed her eyes and took a deep breath through her nose before lowering her head, parting her lips and exhaling very slowly. When she finally lifted her head, her eyes were shimmering. Tears.. tears of joy for how her elderly parents had found the perfect resting place. There was no sadness in her heart, her parents were old when she was born, and that was over twenty years ago, so they all had known that this day was not far. But it came as dream.. No sadness, only pure joy at the sight in front of her - two young ponies in an embrace that will last forever in this enchanted cavern.. she was somehow sure of it, just as she was sure that nopony, herself included, will ever find this place again after she leaves it.

She took a few small steps forward, and lowered her head, pressing a kiss upon both her parents' foreheads, and whispering quietly, "Enjoy the forever... I will now go out in the world and find my happiness." She took another deep breath before nodding to herself, "Good bye and.. have fun!" she added quickly, a glimmer of a grin stretching at her smile for a moment.

Having said her goodbyes, she turned and walked out of the cave, the smile never leaving her lips.

The next day, after having gathered all her posessions, she kicked the door of her parents' shack open and took a deep breath of the fresh mountain air. "So, where am I going to go?" she asked herself as she started to trot down the only road down the mountain. "I suppose I will listen to the lumberjacks, and go see the little town of Ponyville - it seems like that might be a fun place to see!" She finishes the thought that had been on her mind ever since she had heard a few tales from some passing lumberjacks a few weeks prior, and settles into a brisk trot onward into the yet unknown.
