Appearance: He has braces.

Cutie Mark: His cutie mark is an Erlenmeyer flask. He is talented at anything to do with chemical reactions and preparations, and the flask represents a part of that, along with his precise measurements when performing them.

Personality: He is the model nerd. Imagine a pony with a raspy voice, freckles, and braces. He loves playing chess and is a huge strategist. He's a socially awkward pony, one who knows little about social etiquette and sarcasm. <br /><br />Nonetheless, his intelligence surpasses even the best of his kind when utilized to the maximum. Asperger's Syndrome slows him down in this regard, but his ability to memorize and perform chemical reactions with precision more than make up for his social weaknesses.

Backstory: Erlen was born to a family who were struggling to make their ends meet. When Erlen was born, they were unemployed after the manager of the lumber factory they worked on couldn't tolerate that Erlen's mother wanted maternity leave. Since then, they struggled to find work because of their lack of educational experience; neither parent had attended university. <br /><br />Nevertheless, his parents gave all the love they could to their only colt. They supported him through thick and thin, even if Erlen would go so far as to destroy home appliances because of his curiosity with chemical and even when their finances were stricken because of their unemployment. <br /><br />Speaking of chemicals, Erlen's cutie mark was received when he looked around a chemical plant during a field trip. Some of the workers were wondering how they could possibly contain a chemical reaction that would provide the basis for a new frontier in providing electricity with ions. Erlen's hooves somehow drove themselves to tinker around with a nearby desk with the chemicals the engineers were testing. As he tinkered, he placed the voltmeter with suspense, wondering whether his reaction worked. As it turns out, it did. Electricity was beginning flow, and when the engineers told Erlen to stop tinkering with the materials, they noticed the spark of voltage from the chemicals. That led to his cutie mark forming soon after the workers thanked him for his creativity and precision. <br /><br />The mares were never very kind to him though. Most of the time, they would stay away from him everytime he walked by, purportedly because of his "smell". In reality, they just didn't want to associate themselves with a nerd. Erlen wasn't as subject to bullying as other nerds, but the rumours of his sordid past kept whizzing past him. <br /><br />His only friends are his parents, Sterling Crimson, Blue Note, Chemm Blonde, and a few other nerdy ponies like him. Not many ponies understand him, but he doesn't get sad over it. After all, he already has his parents. They picked him up even when he was pushed down socially. They even helped Erlen get a good job at their farming company so he could pay for his medical tuition.
