• Frigid Wind

    DixonTheAdversary

    • Age: Around 17

      Gender: Male

      Species: Pegasus

      Cutie Mark:
Ice Realm Symbol.

Cutiemark explanation: Okay, so this is a bit obscure, but this symbol that I used for the cutiemark is from Hot Wheels Acceleracers. The Ice Realm was a track covered in ice. My character is ice/winter themed. I just thought that they would work together.

What it means: Immune to freezing climates. (Basically means that he can't freeze to death)

Cutiemark story: Frigid Wind got his cutiemark mere hours after being left for dead. He was crossing a frozen body of water. The ice broke and he was plunged into freezing water. The water was as dark as the deepest corner of space, and so cold you would freeze to death in just a few minutes. Frigid Wind did not actually feel the shock of the freezing cold water. Infact, the water felt almost warm. But there was still the struggle of finding the hole as which he fell through the ice. He was soon able to find his point of entry and scramble out of the water before he drowned. Frigid Wind soon noticed that his cutiemark had appeared after he had gathered his thoughts on what had just happened.

      Personality:
Gentle, Composed, Calm, Quiet (Barely speaks), prefers to not fly

      Backstory:
Frigid Wind was not always gentle, and quiet. In fact he was the exact opposite. When Frigid Wind was a young colt he was very ungrateful and seemed to always be stealing something or endangering other ponies lives. Frigid Wind had critically wounded a few ponies, and he didn’t even care. He was able to get away with these crimes by making it look like an accident. His parent’s had tried every form of therapy they could think of, but Frigid Wind could not be helped, or so they thought.

They finally had enough. They devised a plan to say that they are taking a “vacation” to the Crystal Empire but in reality they are going to the Frozen North just to leave Frigid Wind there to freeze to death. His parent’s didn’t care what the were doing was illegal, they figured no-one would miss him anyways. They told Frigid Wind about the “vacation” and his immediate answer was yes. So the family took a train to the Frozen North and….well, the parents purposely took a wrong turn and when the time was right they slipped away quietly. Alone now, Frigid Wind started to panic. But then something clicked in Frigid Wind ’s brain. He calmed himself down quickly and thought about why his parents left him. He immediately came to the conclusion that they left him was because of his crimes.

For the many long years to come, Frigid Wind was alone, barely seeing any sign of life, and when he did it was some sort of predator trying to kill him. He used his white coat to his advantage and hid in the snow. Food was scarce, and because of this he had to eat many disgusting things out of desperation. He stayed in the north for so long not because he was lost, but he was afraid of going back, that he would become like he was before he was abandoned. But now, Frigid Wind has owned up to his fear (or not, depending on the situation of the roleplay) and has decided to go back to civilization.

I like that one. looks pretty cool and has great character development. but even though he has an interesting story, I don't think that any parents would send their kid to freeze to death. he must've been doing some really horrible sh*t to make his parents want to kill him. you should maybe work on that bit. for example, what if he did some crimes? stealing, beating people up and such stuff? maybe he even murdered a dude, but got away with it, but his parents decided that they needed to get rid of him, and he stays in the north due to a feeling of deep regret. just an idea, it's up to you of course :) but overall, I like this OC of yours. it's not clishe and not OP in any way. good job, kiddo! *thumbs up*

Yeah, I'll probably change that now that you pointed it out. Thanks for the feedback.

    Oh... Wow. Uh...

You have potential, but a few things need to be addressed.

    1. An ungrateful brat that hurts ponies accidentally seems ok, but Frigid Wind being a stereotypically violent sociopath doesn't fit into the show's canon. Yes, we see sociopathic behaviour from Suri Polomare, but that's common behaviour for IRL dress people in that business.

    2. Parents abandoning their child to death by freezing? Also doesn't fit into canon. Maybe they left him with an old grandparent and left, but then that grandparent died. Or maybe they thought he'd fit in better living with some sentient animal family that lives in the snow. Besides wolves, because wolves are cliche.

    3. The cutie mark looks like a V with a _ on it. I get that you want to use symbolism, and trust me, IT'S A LOT BETTER than the THOUSANDS of 'Ice pony' characters out there with a snowflake or icicle on their flanks. You get points for trying to find an original and cool symbol. Still, you might find a better and more unique symbol in old stuff like Alchemy or ancient hieroglyphs, and then customize it to fit the character.

    4. A sociopath understanding that his parents abandoned him because he did something wrong wouldn't make him feel guilt, it'd make him wonder what kind of monster does that to their kid, even if he had hurt ponies occasionally, and he'd either plot revenge or plan to get out of there and make a life for himself. A bad kid that wasn't a sociopath but still bad getting abandoned in the snow would either get angry and start badly planning revenge, or give up on his parents and move on. Someone hiding in the ice because they're afraid of becoming who they once were sounds like some edgy 'There's a monster inside me' stuff, and you can move to different places without sliding back into who you were. Him going on a journey of self-improvement, maybe finding some cool magical artefact atop some icy mountain or in a cave would be awesome.

    5. You have potential. There's a lot that needs improving, but after you do improve it, it'll be great.

    6. As a side note: Come up with an original and cool-looking manestyle to use when you ask someone to draw your OC or when you draw him yourself. So many awful OCs have the same awful pony-creator hairstyles, never understanding why that's bad because they don't notice the anatomy flaws and line errors the Pony Creator gives you.

Thanks for the feedback. As for not fitting into the show's canon, there are hundreds of OCs that don't technically fit into the canon, what harm will it do to add one more?
