Backstory: My past, is your future. I was born to humble little family in the Crystal Empire. My father, Coal, was a miner. A profession that became underworked after the empire came under control of Princess Cadance and Prince Shining Armor. My mother, Amethyst, was a jeweler and while I was never one for petty trinkets I had to admit her work was amazing. I never really got to know my father as he went missing when I was just an infant.

I am aware how much I look like a certain Tyrant, believe me, my schoolmates wouldn’t let me forget, even the older ponies looked at me like I was some kinda monster. I almost started to believe I was one myself. The only pony to treat me like a pony was the young prince, Star Saber, and we actually quickly became friends. The idiot even carted me around a in a wagon one Crystal Faire, while I was too sick to move around on my own. His father Shining Armor didn’t seem to like me very much though, but Saber’s mother, Princess Cadance at least treated me well.

I used to have issues with my magic when I was younger. I had difficulties with even the simplest of spells. When I was around ten there was an incident, I was again being bullied by some of my classmates and things got out of hand. One thought it was a good idea to begin throwing rocks at me. One hit me straight in the head and I blacked out. When I came to, the playground had be overrun with black crystals and all my classmates were cowering away from me. To make things even more disturbing, though I hadn’t realized it at the time, I had gotten my cutie mark.

I was forcibly removed from the Crystal Empire after that, apparently under orders from Princess Cadance and Princess Twilight Sparkle. I felt, betrayed, being separated from my only friend like that. However they explained to me their reasons for doing so. They believed I was an Umbrum pony; the same kind of of creature that King Sombra turned out to be. Twilight and her ever curious nature of course wanted to run tests to be sure. And after a grueling amount of tests the results were… inconclusive.

Some tests supported the idea that I was an Umbrum while others seemed to suggest I was just another Crystal Unicorn. Not to mention, according to the journal left behind by King Sombra he was an orphan while I had at least a loving mother. In the end the only conclusion the purple princess could come to was that I was some sort hybrid. Which explained why I got sick during the Crystal Faire but it was never agonizingly painful like detailed in Sombra’s journal.

However, even with all the similarities, I was not Sombra and Princess Twilight was determined to make sure I never was. She was very, transparent with me and I appreciated that. Never once did she act like this was my fault or that I was somehow wrong or broken. She was patient as I tried to learn to control my magic, even during those moments when I lost control.

Five years passed, I was fifteen when everything began to fall apart. That’s Equestria went to war with The Vile. Everypony who could was fighting for the sake of the kingdom and even though I was still considered a child, I fought as well. Four years I fought, and with every battle I got stronger, my power got stronger but in the end it wasn’t enough, it was obvious we were losing.

It was the Crystal Empire that became the last bastion with it’s protective shield however when I got there it seemed that there had been an attack. The castle was damaged and the princesses seemed drained. Apparently they had used a powerful spell to send Star Saber back in time to warn Equestria of the invasion before it ever began. There was only one thing I could really think of to say to that.

“I know it’s a lot of ask. But that idiot’s going to get himself killed alone. You have to send me back as well.”
