Personality: Katarzhyna is smart, determined, and optimistic about the future. She has an outgoing, enthusiastic personality, especially when the subject is science or space travel. She is very good at chess, and almost always has a portable set (with built-in clocks) with her.

Backstory: Katarzhyna was born in Moscow, Russia, the only child of Pyotr and Karenina Karpov. Her early childhood was spent in dire poverty living in a crowded flat with extended family. As she began to grow older, and the Russian economy started to recover from the aftermath of the Soviet collapse, Katarzhyna pushed herself in school so she could have a shot at her crazy dream: to become a cosmonaut for the new Russia. While still in high school, she got a pilot's license for small propeller-driven aircraft. After graduation, she joined the Russian Air Force and entered fighter pilot training. Though she excelled at flying high-performance aircraft, budget cutbacks in the Russian Air Force and space program left her without any available slots.<br /><br />When her term in the Air Force ended, Katarzhyna received permission to fly to America and try to represent Russia in one of the new private spaceflight initiatives getting started in that nation.
