Lady Sparrow
By The-Master
Age: 34
Gender: Female
Species: Pegasus
Appearance: After over a decade of living in the forests of the Everfree, the toll on Sparrow’s appearance was high. Her once silky black mane has become matted and dirty. Her robes have become brown and tattered. The white coat that used cover her figure has faded to a dull grey. Despite all of this she still holds an element of beauty that seems to never fade. She tends to keep herself wrapped in her brown robes and keeps her head hidden beneath the hood. With her she often carries a wooden walking stick, although it seems to fulfil very little purpose.
Cutie Mark: An oak leaf that resembles the form of a shield, a symbol of her protective nature and her connection to the forest.
Personality: She is a quirky sort, always fiddling around with her hooves. She is light on her hooves, always alert of her surroundings. Despite this she is a light hearted character, and a lover of all things that chirp and scurry amongst the brambles outside her hut. Her fun loving personality is what lets her connect with animals on a new scale, treating them as family.
Backstory: The disappearance of the princesses sent the world into utter chaos, the houses divided and the boarders drawn. The only one who went totally oblivious to this was young Lilly. As a filly she grew up with her parents in the countryside south of Ponyville, hidden away from anypony. Lilly loved her parents dearly, holding them as close as she could. Her mother knew how to weave, cook, garden and clean, passing on these skills to her daughter. Her dad would sometimes take her upriver to see with waterfall as it tumbled down the hillside. We simply called it our special place, and it was ours.

They raised her into a strong young mare, one who loved her parents more than anything. But then the winds turned soar and a storm was brewing in the distance. Lilly was terrified, clinging to her mother till she couldn't breathe. The weather moved at an unnatural way, bending against the will of the world. Then a torrent came flooding down the river, a wave that broke the banks and crushed anything in its wake. Their home which they built their family was washed away. From the wreckage Lilly carried her limp mother, her throat lodged with water. She never saw her father again.

Lilly took her sick mother into the Everfree, resting her on the trunk of a willow to keep out of the rain. She was dying and Lilly could do nothing to save her. Her mother gave her something, a necklace that hung with a blue gem. She told her once more that she loved her before she closed her eyes. Lilly did not leave her side for two days.

After she came to her senses she went wandering, deeper into the Everfree Forest till she was utterly lost. She knew little of the outside world, only that it was cruel and unforgiving. She aimed to isolate herself from that reality, begging to start a new life amongst the trees of the wood. Soon Lilly found herself back near the edge of the forest just above the boarders of Earthborn, safe from the many predators by the daylight. She made herself a little log hut, it wasn't perfect but it would keep her sheltered. Lilly began to even befriend the animals, often conversing with them over events in the forest. The sparrows often had news beyond the forest which was often grim. Soon word came that there were others within the Everfree, other ponies from the north. Lilly became frightened; terrified of what they may do to her if she was found. After a few weeks she had near forgotten the news, more focusing on improving her hut and the collecting of various herbs.

On the day before midsummer Lilly was out by the grassy fields when she began to hear a rustling in the trees. The birds around her quickly took to the skies, fleeing from some unknown threat. It became all too clear when a Zebra War band took her from all sides, ambushing her and binding her legs. After three days travel she was brought before the Lady Fluttershy. Many would become enchanted at the mere sight of her, Lilly was awestruck. She was beautiful yet terrible, her eyes holding her in some kind of trance. She was too scared to answer her questions, the words only coming out as small whimpers. Lady Fluttershy had little choice but to hold her in the stare. Lilly heard and saw no more.

Lilly woke up high amongst the trees, still surrounded by savage ponies. Her head ached but she was dazed after her ill experience with the Lady of the Wood. Lilly simply shied away from anypony, curling up in a ball and shutting herself off from the world. Her hooves were free but her wings were bound tight. After a while she had an idea, a small chance to escape. She rolled off of the wooden platform high above the ground, the feral ponies instantly rushing to the edge to see what fate she met. Lilly desperately clung to the underside of the platform, trying to avoid looking down. When the guards rushed off to search bellow she managed to pull herself back up. Lilly found a small bone knife lying around, using it to free the restraints on her wings. Taking to the air she fled, soaring above the forest and in the open air. Although she had not taken into account the many many arrows and projectiles that were hurled in her direction. She was struck in the side, her wing pierced by a deadly Zebra dart. The venom began to surge through her system, causing her vision to blur and fade. After two days she was home, collapsing on her doorstep. Her animal friends brought her the ingredients she asked for, putting them together in a flask along with river water. The sickness had extended through her wing, the flesh turning a sickly grey. The medicine could only do so much, she would live but her wing was crippled.

Lilly walked outside her cottage, a grim look etched on her face. She rested her hooves in the grass, cherishing the softness of the blades as they ran across her body. A brief smile came to her face and she rested happily in the light gaze of the sun. The sparrows settled around her in the tree branches, chirping away to Lilly merely. They began to call her names like “Free Sparrow” and “Lady Sparrow”. She giggled at the idea, but accepted the compliment none the less. Her heart was somewhat lighter even after all that had occurred.

Soon word would reach the Lady Fluttershy of the young mare, the birds more loyal to her than they are to Lilly. They passed on the name Lady Sparrow and spoke of her connection with the forest and the creatures. Fluttershy never looked twice at her, for she knew the mare would not survive long in the woods on her own. The days were growing darker and even the farthest reaches where Lilly built her home were under a dark power. She would not survive long, she would become one of them. Lilly knows little of this, and would never come to fully understand the true power of the Everfree.

The years seemed to fly by, although she never did really keep track of time. The war was not her issue, although she did keep tabs whenever it came too near the trees. More than once she has even left her sanctuary to defend it. She followed a pack of Timberwolves as they hunted down a rouge band of House Earthborn. She watched as Big Mac led a great assault on the Everfree, picking off any who slipped by her perch with a swift stone to the head. Her actions are all backed by reason, all for the protection of the wood. She had become the Lady Sparrow.
