Cutie Mark: Lantern's cutie mark is a blazing heart, which signifies his affinity with and light (And fire to an extent) and the intensity of his friendship.

Personality: Lantern Light is a cheerful pony. He often jokes around with his friends, and likes to play lighthearted pranks on them. He is also very protective of his friends, and likes helping everyone, even random ponies he just met! But these characteristics of his aren't always appropriate. He becomes paranoid of bad things happening to his friends, and tries to protect them from imaginary dangers.<br /><br />He is also somewhat of a bookworm. He like to read about almost any subject, but prefers to read books about celestial bodies, or books concerning light or studies of light. He is a very studious pony, but can still make time for important people. He has no problem adjusting to new places, as he is also a bit of a wanderlust.<br /><br />He has mild Nyctophobia, and dislikes areas without a light source. Also, because of his Nyctophobia, he almost always has a light orb floating around him, even in broad daylight. He is also forgetful (Which is why he walks around with a light orb in the middle of the day.) and tends to neglect his appearance. But one thing he never forgets is to wear his brown vest. He has used it on many of his travels, and he uses it for the protection and warmth it offers....and the secret it keeps.

Backstory: Lantern Light was born to a middle class family from Canterlot. Since birth, he was fascinated with the magic of light. He attended multiple specialized classes on top of his regular school, which allowed him to get a basic mastery of Light magic. One day, after finishing up his studies, he did his first attempt to project light. He succeeded, and as he excitedly finished the spell, he felt that something was different. A good kind of different. He looked at his flank, and saw that he had gained his cutie mark. This pushed him to study the magic of light even further, and to pass his finals with a surprisingly high marks. He then moved to a bigger school to pursue a higher mastery of his magic.<br /><br />He often conducted experiments in his house to study how light behaved and how to manipulate it further using his magic. He soon mastered how to move objects by concentrating the natural "solar wind" generated by the sun, which he soon used in place of levitation. He deepened his study into the properties of light, and before long, he was manipulating light itself. By dispersing and concentrating light, he was able to create balls of light or "light orbs", as he calls them. Using these orbs, he is able to produce a constant source of light, and through practice, he was able to maintain them for hours, then days. But his research came at a price.<br /><br />While researching and doing experiments on the electromagnetic spectrum for a research facility, a error almost cost him his life. He has rigged a machine to emit the whole visible light spectrum, but it was later found that due to a miscalculation, he had accidentally programmed it to emit gamma radiation. He was bombarded with the energy, which caused him to sustain burns and pass out. He woke up in the hospital, and was told that due to the strength and the amount of gamma radiation he was hit with, he might never be able to do natural unicorn magic, such as levitation and teleportation, ever again.<br /><br />Because of his body's naturally higher tolerance for radiation which was gained from his previous experiments, he was told that he would survive. But he would forever carry a reminder of his mistake, a jagged scar on his side where the radiation hit. The doctors were amazed that he could still do his light magic, but later scans showed that while the radiation removed his ability to do natural magic, it actually augmented his light magic. Due to being exposed to ridiculous amounts of radiation, his horn gained a abnormal resilience to radiation, which, with a bit of practice and a lot of pain, channel light itself to augment his magic.<br /><br />Even with his insistence to stay and continue the research that almost ended his life, his doctors recommended a vacation to a quiet place, preferably somewhere out of Canterlot. Eventually, he decided on a visit to Ponyville. Upon arriving, he went off to find a place to stay for the next few days. He found a few hotels that were open, but before he could book a room to stay in, he found himself face to face with a certain pink pony, who insisted on throwing him a welcome party. As the party ended, he staggered to his hotel room, opened the door, and crashed into his bed. His last words before falling asleep?<br /><br />"I could get used to this..."
