• Larcy

    Kay Dreamer

    • Age: Adolescent

      Gender: Female

      Species: Non-Pony

Appearance: A sinuous smoke coloured dragon with orange fins and wings, an ivory underside and pink eyes. She's a little shorter than the average pony when walking on all fours, but much longer.

Her wings are small, but she can fly quite quickly and proficiently.

Personality: Larcy is curious, mischievous, and quite the thrill seeker. She doesn't understand pony culture very well, viewing ponies as strange, silly creatures who are fun to scare, trick, and tease, and often very easy to take advantage of.

Larcy is extremely selfish, as is the nature of many dragons. She is also very childish. She will pout, whine and generally behave like a spoiled brat when she doesn't get her own way. She can be very petty and prideful, keeping grudges far longer than she should. Her pride leads to her being extremely competitive, which, when combined with her enormous ego, is a recipe for disaster.

Larcy loves games, particularly games of chance, despite having next to no luck with them. It's for this reason that she's still a rather small dragon. Gambling away one's hoard does not help one mature into a proper sized dragon at any respectable speed.

In spite of all this, Larcy possesses an altruistic streak, although she is loathe to admit it. However much she tries to ignore it, her conscience is just a tiny bit louder than her selfish nature.

Backstory: Larcy was hatched to a clan of dragons who made their lairs in the smoking bowl of a lush volcanic island, slightly off the western coast of the Dragon Lands. Her clan were known as the Smoke Dragons, and the tropical paradise was theirs alone. Larcy spent her hatchling years racing through the dense jungle, exploring dark caves, fishing in the clear coves and paddling in the waves which lapped against the warm yellow sands on the shore.

The Smoking Island was a very comfortable place to live and grow up, but it was best suited for older dragons who had already amassed large hoards and weren't interested in gathering more. There were gems to be found, sure, but not nearly enough... and finding them wasn't nearly as exciting as taking them. Unfortunately, taking them from older dragons usually meant a lecture or a smack across the tail if you were caught. For a young dragon such as Larcy, who had yet to make her own fortune, Smoking Island eventually grew too constricting. Larcy swore she would make her own way in the world, and someday return to the island of her hatching with the largest hoard any dragon there had ever seen!

During the most recent Dragon Migration, she spied an exciting, rich looking land underwing. Her shell-mates told her it was full of strange, dull creatures called 'ponies', but she wouldn't be deterred. She swooped down to explore, not realising until it was too late that the entire migration had carried on without her.

Stranded in an odd, shiny city stuck to the side of a mountain, Larcy was terrified. She didn't know the way home, and it was rare for dragons to migrate back along the same route they arrived by, so it was unlikely she'd be found. As night fell, she was thoroughly miserable. Not wanting to sleep in the cold, unfamiliar air, she crept through a window into a strange looking building containing all manner of old looking objects concealed under glass canopies. It seemed empty, though she could hear hoofsteps echoing through the halls. Deciding to avoid those, she crept further and further in, drawn by a heavenly smell coming from the deepest part of the building. By the time she laid her eyes on the source, she was salivating. It was a gem! A flawless diamond as big as her own head! Larcy smiled, her eyes glinting with desire. It had to be hers.

Of course, Larcy wasn't familiar with the pony concept of a museum. (Dragons do not share their treasures with other dragons. Such a thing is unspeakable.) So she was caught unawares by the alarm bell which rang madly the moment she lifted the glass canopy. Frozen in shock, she dropped the glass. The sound of it smashing against the floor snapped her back into the present, and she snatched the gem from its stand. Hearing shouts and hoofsteps, she took a deep breath and blew an enormous cloud of smoke, quickly filling the room. Slipping stealthily through the billowing black, she retraced her steps, confounding her perusers with more and more smoke wherever she heard their approach. Eventually slipping out the same open window, she took to the sky, her prize grasped triumphantly in her claws. Larcy would feast well tonight, on the finest gem ever seen by dragonkind!

The thrill of thievery soon grew into an addiction for Larcy. Big things, small things, it didn't matter. If it wasn't bolted to the floor, she'd take it, and if it was... she'd probably still try. She kept herself hidden from most ponies, unless she felt like deliberately toying with them. She woke with the sunset and hid with the dawn, never staying in one place too long. She left in her wake a trail of unsolved crimes, never once having been caught or even seen.

After having spent some time in Equestria, Larcy grew accustomed to the stares and the shock she inspired in the equine creatures she dwelled amongst, learning to converse with and even befriend a few. This came with the distinct downside of learning how to play games of chance, which Larcy both enjoyed and was terrible at. The tasty drinks which made your throat burn like fire didn't seem to help her play any better, either. Still, Larcy enjoyed herself. There was all the time in the world to build a hoard and grow into an adult dragon. For now, she was content.

What small hoard Larcy does possess is stored in a mountain range to the East of Canterlot. Larcy spends very little time there, preferring to dump her treasures on her small pile, and head back out to continue her hunt for more.
