  • Lone Blazes

    • Age: Older than Mane 6, aprrox. 30-40

      Gender: Male

      Species: Unicorn

Appearance: Brown coat and silver mane. Usually coated in dust. He rarely uses his horn for anything other than holding a quill, as he never learned enough about magic to know any spells that might actually help him in the terrible situations he gets himself into. He is fit, but not bulky; he possesses that kind of wiry resilience that comes from having spent a lot of time fleeing from things that want to eat you.

Cutie Mark: It's a compass because he's an explorer. No hidden meaning here.

Personality: If you can even find him, you'd be hard-pressed to get Lone Blazes to talk any more than is absolutely necessary to make you go away. The only chance you have to meet up with him in an inhabited location would be on one of his infrequent resupply voyages. He actually gets as giddy as a colt when he discovers somewhere new, but he's careful not to show it when he's around other ponies. Finding out who he is, or even his name, is usually more trouble than it's worth, and most who meet him are discouraged and quick to write him off as an unfriendly curmudgeon, and they'd be right to do so. However, deep in his heart, somewhere even he refuses to acknowledge, he is desperately lonely and wants to make friends. However, he has no idea how to do this, and because he does his best to ignore these urges, mistaking them for inner weakness, it is much easier for him to keep his barriers up, and continue his ceaseless travel through uncharted wilderness alone.

Backstory: Lone Blazes was born in a big city; it doesn't matter which. He left because he hated it, and now he explores the Equestrian wilderness. He does not talk about his childhood. He writes travel guides for a living, and although they don't sell particularly well, he makes enough to afford food, paper and quills, and very little else. He doesn't have a home anywhere, instead he pitches a tent wherever his travels have taken him that day. He has encountered no end of deadly situations, and has survived (often narrowly) poison, starvation, and mauling by wild animals and hostile wilderness. He's so used to danger that he rarely panics, although that said he's also usually less than relaxed. As he's gotten older, he has started yearning more and more for a traveling companion, or even just a friend to visit occasionally, and this subconscious feeling has made his journeys more and more often take him to inhabited areas, even if he needs no supplies. Possessing an encyclopedic knowledge of the dangers that haunt the Equestrian wilderness, and an unexpectedly large vocabulary (a remnant of the childhood he refuses to discuss), he might be an invaluable companion or escort for those whose own travels take them through the less paradisaical regions of Equestria, if only he could bring himself to get to know somepony.
