• Age: 25

      Gender: Male

      Species: Earth Pony

Appearance: Lorem has a large frame that other ponies may find intimidating. He is tall and has wide shoulders that may make him appear strong but, in reality, he has fairly average strength.

His coat is a light shade of brown, similar to the colour of parchment and his mane is a much deeper shade of brown. It is very smooth and reaches down to his shoulders.

His eyes are a very strong shade of green and his left eye has a very small patch of orange that can only be seen when you get close to it.

Cutie Mark: Lorem's cutie mark is the letter "L" with long, curled serifs curling off the edges of the letter.

This cutie mark shows Lorem's skill with caligraphy. Ever since he was a young colt, he'd always had incredibly neat hoofwriting and was able to write in a variety of fonts.

He earnt his cutie mark when he was eight. Lorem was in the library and was looking through a book showing a variety of known fonts and writing styles that had been discovered.

He'd worked his way through a lot of the book and had decided which fonts he liked and which he didn't.

When he came to the end of the book, there was an intricate archaic font that instantly clicked with Lorem. It was an elegant font that was incredibly easy to read.

Lorem began to learn this new font, taking each letter at a time until he had learnt the entirety of the style. It took months to learn but when he'd finished, Lorem discovered he'd earnt his mark.

Personality: Despite his hulking frame, Lorem is increibly gentle and soft-speaking. He speaks quietly in an attempt to show early on that his daunting body is not a reflection of the calm pony he is.

He doesn't like to see ponies sad and when he does, he'll attempt to cheer them up. Otherwise, he is likely to leave them alone unless it is obvious that they need assistance with something.

Lorem has a really love for foals and seeing them happy and giggling is able to melt his heart in an instant. He hates to see sad foals more than any other type of creature.

He isn't comfortable being the centre of attention in a large group of ponies and may stutter with nervousness if he has to talk to groups with over five ponies in. In a smaller group though, he is capable of talking to others.

Backstory: Lorem was born at home to a loving pair of earth ponies in Manehatten. He birth was nothing special and he only cried for a few moments before he fell asleep in his mother's forelegs.

His parents realised very early on in his life that something was not right with Lorem in the way that he never responded to anything that was said to him.

Doctor after doctor claimed that it was just Lorem being stubborn and trying to get his own. The only help they prescribed was a clip round the ear.

Luckily for Lorem, his parents didn't give up until they'd found a more accurate opinion. After all, Lorem wasn't a naughty child; he was just unresponsive to sounds.

The fourth doctor he was taken to ran a few short tests and recognised the problem instantly. Lorem was diagnosed with prenatal deafness. As nothing had happened to make Lorem deaf, it was put down to a genetic problem.

Most parents would be worried or anxious at the thought of raising a deaf child. Not Lorem's. They saw it as a challenge that they were excited to have to take.

They spent extensive times teaching Lorem to write before he went to school and rather than choosing to teach him sign language, Lorem's parents thought it best to teach Lorem how to lip-read.

It was a stressful time for everyone involved but by the time Lorem started school at the age of three, he was able to lip-read, write and read most of the basic words. This gave him an advantage as he started school with more of an understanding than most other foals there.

A few fairly unintelligent ponies thought it would be funny to shout insults and tease Lorem over his hearing problem. Clearly, it hadn't struck them that shouting insults at a deaf pony is about as useful as a paper frying pan.

Throughout school, Lorem was known as gentle soul that could and would help anypony with their problems. Even when the ponies who had bullied him needed assistance, he just smiled and did his best to help.

His love of calligraphy started when he was five after a school trip to a museum. Within were all manner of fossils and ancient discoveries but it was the old documents that really caught his eye. The way that the letters and punctuation danced on the pages was a beautiful sight to Lorem.

From that day forth, Lorem spent a lot of his free time learning as many fonts as he possibly could. His already neat hand writing made it easy to learn the simple fonts and lessened the time to earn the harder ones.

When he'd finally "finished" the only book on old writing styles, he'd earnt his cutie mark.

After leaving school, Lorem spent his time working at a help centre for other deaf ponies. For his training, he was required to learn basic sign language. He picked it up in a short period of time but he much preferred lip reading. It was a great job for him as it combined helping with getting to meet other deaf ponies. He didn't like that many of them were a bit cautious and didn't want to communicate but a small while spent with Lorem always helped their confidence.

He felt disheartened when a lack of funding meant that the help centre had to close but Lorem didn't stay down for long. He got over it quickly and began work doing whatever small jobs needed doing.
