Midnight Sky

Appearance: Midnight has a dark blue coat and a dark gray mane and tail. His eyes set him apart being a purple tinted gray color. He's a touch on the thin side and just the slightest bit tall for his size, and he always keeps his horn sharpened. His magical aura is a lavender purple color, but turns to a darker shade when he uses energy based magics. However, if Midnight it especially angry then his magical aura will change to a very dark shade of purple that can easily be mistaken as black.<br /><br />Midnight Sky also has a set of armor that he'll often wear for important occasions and long journeys or missions. His armor, which he's had since his days in Neighland, is a segmented iron armor, but the entire visible surface is obsidian with gold for accents, and his cutie mark is emblazoned on the front. The plume on his helmet is colored gray, and the entire set of armor has small hidden compartments where Midnight keeps emergency rations and a first aid kit. In addition, the armor is made to be comfortable and useful in all climates, whether it be hot and humid or freezing cold, thanks to the inside being lined with an enchanted material that keeps the wearer's temperature the same as when they put on the armor.

Cutie Mark: His cutie mark shows a meteor falling then changing course suddenly. Midnight used a special variation of telekinesis that he created to redirect the meteor from hitting his home town of Palmare. (More detail will be given in his backstory)

Personality: While he has several mannerisms that reflect those of a pony of high stature, Midnight tries to keep his royal nature contained and this causes him to sometimes act a little shy or suspicious around strangers. Once he gets to be comfortable around a pony, then he often opens up and shows some of his true nature. He is very studious in his research into magic and history, and has a tendency to occasionally spurt out his knowledge if the conversation is about something he's researched. Midnight will sometimes take charge or help someone else do so when he sees the need, going back to his royal family roots. However, on the rare occasion he gives a direct order to another pony, Midnight will fully expect it to be followed,, taking any refusal to comply as a personal insult.<br /><br />His spends most of his time studying and/or practicing magic, but also spends a lot of time writing about his and Sunshine's adventures that they had before settling in the Everfree Forest, though he's always careful to make as little mention of his family and homeland. However, Midnight can be a bit less amiable if anypony tries asking about his old home or his family, and he's not very keen on dressing up for any reason. He is also not very comfortable at large events like parties, though he does enjoy them he just has a fear of becoming the center of attention for any reason. This does not keep him humble all the time either, though; if he gets comfortable with something he might still show off a bit then get nervous about it afterwards. Also, thanks to his older siblings, Midnight is often more agitated during winter and more friendly and social in the spring. But what really pushes Midnight over the edge is when he feels he has been betrayed, or if somepony begins to act like Frozen Stars did and torment him in the same way, in which cases Midnight's magic goes out of control.

Backstory: Midnight Sky is the second youngest pony in his family, which rules over a land that has long been separated from Equestria. His mother was an alicorn named Starlight Dazzle, but his father was an earth pony by the name of Stony Courage, and this led to Midnight and his siblings being different than each other. The eldest two were both alicorns, the one day stallion was named Frozen Stars and his twin sister was Summer Breeze. Later came Flaming Leaves, he was an earth pony like their father and was instantly close to Stony Courage. Then there was River Dance, she was a pegasus and was very close to her alicorn siblings. After them came Midnight Sky and later his close sister Sunshine Rays, both of whom were unicorns.<br /><br />Growing up, Midnight Sky poured himself into studying magic and history, because he was desperate to prove that even though he couldn't fly he could still be as good as his brother Frozen Stars. One day, through a series of connected accidents, Midnight Sky learned the lesson that even small things could have huge consequences. That very night, while he was up late studying ways to strengthen a unicorn's telekinetic abilities, Midnight and several other ponies within the city of Palmare, the capitol of the land of Neighland that his parents ruled over, spotted a star falling right for the city. Every pony with magic tried to stop it, but then Midnight had the idea to apply his resent moral lesson to magic. Using a boulder that resembled the meteor, Midnight imagined the two objects as one and the same, and with the help of several other unicorns, as well as his alicorn siblings, managed to redirect the meteor away from the city by simply moving the boulder. This caused Midnight to earn his cutie mark and began his studies into the magic he had just created, which he named sympathetic telekinesis.<br /><br />When it was announced that only the eldest four of his siblings would ever hold any important position, Midnight Sky and his younger sister Sunshine Rays became isolated from their siblings and they both never really had any friends. With their parents too busy teaching their other siblings how to rule Neighland, and their siblings too busy learning to rule Neighland, Midnight and Sunshine became more and more isolated from the royal family until Midnight finally decided to run away, and maybe try to find where the meteor from his youth crashed. It took him several days before Midnight noticed that Sunshine had followed him all the way from Palmare, and being so far already allowed her to travel with him. Together they journeyed south west, the direction the meteor had gone, all the while learning more about magic and the world outside Neighland. They met few other ponies, but when they did both Midnight and Sunshine had decided to keep their past a secret for the time being.<br /><br />Eventually they found their way to a strange place where ponies lived in peace, far from their homes in Neighland. It wasn't until later that they learned that this place was called Equestria. They both eventually settled in the deepest reaches of the Everfree Forest, not realizing that they were very close to a town until one day when he strayed further from where he and Sunshine were camped and found himself at the edge of the forest with a view of a town in the distance. One of Midnight's main reasons for having him and Sunshine settle where they did was because it was where the meteor had crashed, and that the meteor was even mostly intact. Together with his sister Midnight hollowed out the meteor and slowly turned it into a true home. Only when it was finished did he ever go to the town he had discovered earlier, and this is when Midnight and Sunshine first saw Ponyville.<br /><br />After that Midnight did not visit Ponyville often, except to get supplies. It wasn't until later that Sunshine convinced him to take more breaks from his research and socialize with the ponies of Ponyville more, and maybe make some friends. He was naturally reluctant to do so, but in the end he did make a friend through doing so. During one of his friendly trips into Ponyville, Midnight got inadvertently involved in helping a pegasus pony perform a complicated stunt for a little competition. This pegasus, whose name was Blizzard Blitz, was grateful of Midnight, and over time they developed a sort of friendship. Since then the two spend a lot of time helping each other, at least when Blizzard is in Ponyville and not on one of his journeys.<br /><br />Throughout his time in Equestria, Midnight Sky has set for himself very distinct goals. Most important is to find a way to become an alicorn, as leaving Neighland on bad terms has bothered him for years now and the only way to set things right is to return home and settle things with his brother Prince Frozen Stars and his mother Queen Starlight. This though, requires Midnight to prove that he is worthy of being called a prince of Neighland and returning home more powerful and wise than before he left. And thus Midnight has devoted his life to researching magic, any magic, to find a way to become an alicorn.
