• Nymphaea

    HunterTSN

    • Age: early hundreds

      Gender: Female

      Species: Non-Pony

Appearance: Nymphaea has dark green skin similar to that of an amphibian. Her main and tail are similarly colored and matted with algae and various lakeweeds. She is very thin to the point of having a near-skeletal appearance, because of this many ponies mistake her for dead when happening across her in the dark swamp. Her only intentional accessory is the pink waterlily that she often wears in her mane.

Cutie Mark: Nymphaea has no cutie mark, even when disguised as a normal pony.

Personality: Despite being a viscous and deceitful killer, Nymphaea is actually very shy and quiet. Due to long isolation and lack of interest, she is unfamiliar with many of the values and taboos of pony society, often saying or doing something that makes others very uncomfortable. Nymphaea has little to no regard for pony life and sees no error in her murderous actions, still she always tries her best to be polite and respectful to her prey before quickly drowning and devouring them.

Backstory: Like most other Kelpies, Nymphaea hatched alone at the bottom of a large pond. For the first years of her life she preyed upon small fish and amphibians until she became large enough to bait and trap the small mammals and birds that drank from her reservoir.

Nymphaea was introduced to ponies early on since her swamp would regularly get visitors from the nearby settlement of Ponyville, a still relatively new town that was growing rapidly due to the apple trade. At first she hid from the strange invaders, but she quickly grew curious of the furry equines.

Eventually her curiosity grew too much and one night, when she noticed a large stallion had entered the bog, she planned to trap him. As young as she was, Nymphaea was too small to shapeshift into a full-sized pony, so she instead took the form of a young foal. Frantically she began to kick and splash at the muddy water, drawing th attention of the stallion. Assuming she was a colt from town who had wandered into the swamp and slipped in, the oblivious stallion began to search for a way to save the young kelpie by tossing sticks and vines to it, finally he gave in and waded into the murky slough. As soon as all four of his hooves were submerged, Nymphaea pounced, quickly catching the stallion off guard and dragging it to the bottom of the lake.

From then on, Nymphaea was happy to stay in her marsh, feeding on any unfortunate souls that wandered too far into what had become known as Froggy Bottom Bog. When she has gone to long without food she will sometimes don a disguise and venture into Ponyville at night to find a gullible morsel who will follow her back to her home for dinner.
