• Peppermint Harmony

    Edward Kenway

    • Age: 20

      Gender: Female

      Species: Unicorn

Appearance: Peppermint Harmony is about the size of your average Unicorn. She has a silvery blue coat that promotes her muted green mane [and tail] perfectly. Her mane is short, with the frontmost part curling up and sticking out. The bottom part of her mane curls as well, but it doesn't touch itself like the curl on top does. Peppermint's tail is almost just like the top part of her mane - but this time, it's a shorter poof rather than a longer one.

Cutie Mark: A black heart with a quarter note's stem attached to the right side. It rests on a wavy staff, of which the center rests on about 'B'.

Personality: Peppermint Harmony is almost always the first one to be welcoming somepony new in the group - whether it be the young foal's choir, or any other group that she would be a part of. She can also be seen as a very optimistic mare, who tries to bring out the light side of every little dark situation. When she isn't at work or resting in her home in Canterlot, Peppermint can be seen playing in the old arcade or with the little fillies and colts where she used to live. A lot can say she's playful, and can even become a little competitive when playing games.

Like with anypony, there's the 'bad' side to Peppermint. She is a perfectionist when she is working, and even one small mess up like hitting an off note can tip her scales enough for her to be upset with you. At times she can be a little dogmatic, not believing in what you said when she already believes in another belief or another way. There has been times where Peppermint has been a wreck, and she could snap out at you at the most random of times.

Backstory: Peppermint Harmony was the child of Mint and Silver. Mint, her mother, was a kind and gentle mare who grew various plants like rosemary and mint and sold it to other ponies for a reasonable price. Silver, on the other hoof, was a jewelry maker who loved to experiment with various materials to bring out the best of his talent. When Silver was offered a job in Canterlot making some top-notch jewelry, he jumped at the idea. While Mint was a little reluctant because of her little farm she had, Silver was really excited. They reached an agreement the night that Silver was set to head to Canterlot: Peppermint would spend a week in Ponyville, then in Canterlot, and so on. When Silver didn't had work to do, he came over to Ponyville to spend time with his wife.

When Peppermint was old enough, she attended school in Ponyville. With this, though, the agreement had to be changed. Now, she would live her weekdays in Ponyville and weekends in Canterlot - and also spend holidays in the prim and proper city. The shifts between the two areas had her hooves tied up in a knot - she acted like an adult citizen of the city Silver now lived in almost all the time. This came with bullying, and the eventual transfer to Canterlot's school. Things became a lot better from then on, and Peppermint became more and more attached to her father than her mother.

It wasn't long before Peppermint had heard about the Young Foals' Choir at her school. It piqued her interest in a way no other club has had before. With her father's permission, she joined. In almost no time, Peppermint became very good at what she was doing. Many free days in her household were spent singing, and most visits with her mother were as well.

One day, when Peppermint was at a choral practice, everypony seemed to be paying attention to her. When she asked what was wrong, somepony - probably her teacher - pointed out the black heart-note on the staff on her flank. Her cutie mark! She was overjoyed. Music had became one of her passions, and when she had realized that singing was her special talent, it had appeared. When Peppermint came home, she told Silver all about it.

As a congratulations, Silver crafted a very special pendant for Peppermint. It fit quite well around her neck, the silver ensemble with a minty green note-shaped gem in the center. "This gem here was given to me a long time ago." her father explained, placing it on Peppermint for the first time. "The pony who gave it to me said that it can hold a single spell - albeit, a weak one - at a time. Once another spell is casted on it, the other spell leaves."

After her father spoke of that, Peppermint was off to teach herself - or possibly learn one from somepony - a spell to use on the pendant. Hours and hours of searching ensued before she settled on Vocal Enhancement. It was supposed to modify a pony's voice to sound like somepony else [or change the pony's pitch higher or lower] for a day. She studied the spell for days, weeks, and even months before she decided to try it on herself.

With a knot in her stomach, she carefully cast the spell on the gem and placed the pendant on herself. Peppermint started to speak. "Is my voice higher?" she asked herself. It didn't sound higher. A frown appeared on her face, before a lightbulb lit in her mind: try to sing! She sung a note of which she could not sing before. It went beautifully, and without a falter.

Peppermint was super excited! She immediately showed the effects of the pendant to Silver. He was also thrilled - and so was Mint when she eventually heard the beautiful serenade that Peppermint sung for her.

Years later, and Peppermint Harmony was finally old enough to move out of her father's home. When she was asked for what job she would want to partake in, she chose to try out to be the director of the Young Foals' Choir. Success! She secured the job in her hooves, and used money earned from the job - along with a little assistance in Silver's shop - to move in a small house near the edge of Canterlot.

It wasn't long until Peppermint had heard about the Royal Choir. This had given her a new goal for life, along with educating young fillies and young colts about the wonders of music - entering the Royal Choir.
