Rainycakes
By Rainycakes
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Species: Alicorn
Appearance: Rainycakes is a dark grey Alicorn with dark blue mane and tail streaked with light blue. She's taller than the average pony, and has large, thick-lashed eyes of silver.
Cutie Mark: Rainycakes' cutie mark is a red heart on a storm cloud with five raindrops falling underneath. It symbolizes her love of weather, especially stormy days.
Personality: Rainycakes spent most of her young life trying to please others and discover herself in the process. These days Rainy flies freer and more self-assured. She's kind and caring and shows respects to everyone.
Backstory: Rainycakes is an Alicorn born on a rainy, stormy day to two pegasi who ran the Cloudsdale Bakery Shop. When they discovered their daughter had not only wings but a unicorn horn, they figured she was destined for something great. The Cakes (distantly related to the Cake family in Ponyville) had hoped Rainy would become some sort of baking genius. Her cooking skills are good, but not that good, and she was left trying to find her special talent in something else.

Rainycakes realized she had a talent for the weather and became an apprentice at the weather factory. Here, to the amazement of all, she realized she could create weather easily using her unicorn magic. With one sweep of her horn, she could drive the storm clouds away and give Equestria 24/7 sunny days with only a few light, happy showers that gave the flora the drink they needed. But, still, she remained a blank flank. There was something missing.

Now possibly the oldest living pony without a cutie mark, Rainycakes worked tirelessly in the weather factory making the other Pegasi's jobs much easier. Then came the drought.

The rainbow fountain dried up, so Rainycakes replenished it with her magic. But then the winter factory melted and Rainycakes had to magically restore the freezing temperature. The rainclouds were drying up in the rain factory so she summoned her magic again to grow the clouds magically, but while she was busy elsewhere, the rainbow fountain was sputtering and the newly made snowflakes were melting. Rainycakes couldn't save it all.

Down below, Ponyville was faring even worse. The lakes were so low, the fish and other aquatics were dying from overpopulation and asphyxiation. The apples on the trees were drying up and producing far less. Drought was everywhere, and the short summer showers that Cloudsdale was able to send just wasn't enough to spare the heat of the blazing summer sun. Even Princess Celestia couldn't help her subjects, to her dismay.

Rainycakes was just trying to keep the weather factory together. Finally, she fainted from exhaustion. In her absence, all the weather factories dried up and even Cloudsdale began to shrink and everyone began to panic.

When she finally awoke, Cloudsdale was in a state of emergency and disappearing fast. There was just one thing she could do that she hadn't before; her eyes began to glow and Rainy hovered in the air, completely listless as she let her unicorn magic take over.

She brought the storm, thundering and howling with lightning, wind, and rain. All over Equestria, the rain came - to the delight of many (at first). It rained all day and all night... but it didn't stop there. For days it rained. The ground was so hardbaked that the rains weren't being absorbed fast enough and it flooded the low-lands and the rivers. Ponies had to seek higher shelter. Cloudsdale suffered the worst, with the once brilliant white clouds becoming grey, thundering and lightning cracking everywhere and destroying buildings randomly. The Pegasi had to seek shelter on the ground.

In cooler climes, it was snow and sleet that the storm brought, covering the land in the midst of summer, forcing creatures big and small to find whatever shelter they could from the freezing cold.

The storm was threatening to overtake Equestria and destroy everyone. Food was already scarce from the drought, now it was worse.

Nothing, however, could awaken Rainy from her magically-induced state. Not until Princess Celestia arose from Canterlot Castle to save her and all Equestria from her magic's fury. Touching horns, the spell was suddenly broken and the weather slowly dispersed. With the help of Princess Celestia, Rainy was lowered to the safety of Cloudsdale, the storm clouds dispersing and becoming fluffy and white once again, though Cloudsdale remained a terrible mess.

Princess Celestia gave Rainy a talking to. The world needed lightning and thunder, she said, fierce storms of rain, sleet, and snow. The plains and rivers needed to flood and disperse nutrients to the soil. The snow and ice were needed to help the plants and animals sleep during the winter, and much much more. Rainy and the other Pegasi had tried to keep the weather perfect year round... but nature just didn't work that way. It needed everything to function.

Princess Celestia finally noted one last thing before she left, that Rainy had finally gotten her cutie mark.

----

Rainy worked to help everyone rebuild and regrow after the storms and floods. Equestria recovered. These days she now only works part time at the weather factory, making sure everything is functioning.

Now and then, Rainy flies over Ponyville or Canterlot, bringing a fierce thunderstorm with her... when scheduled of course.
