Appearance: Messy, unkempt blue, two-toned mane, one tone closer to cyan, the other closer to navy blue. Grey coat, purple eyes.
Cutie Mark: A book with a question mark on it;

The book is the same book Roaming had found during that fateful dig (see below). It shows the potential knowledge and, perhaps, potency of his magic.
Personality: Snarky, sarcastic, but dutiful and kind. His head's in the clouds (figuratively) often, but when it matters, he can be empathetic and insightful. He's almost as book-wormish and "adorkable" as a certain protege of the sun...
Backstory: Although born in Hoofington to a humble earth pony couple, he's about as down to earth as a pegasus; his aspiration to become a mage were as foolhardy as it was for ant to lift a boulder. Despite the constant discouragement from his parents, he set out into world, towards the north where the Crystal Empire had recently re-materialized after its millennia-long absence. After settling down, he happened upon a position as a laborer for an archeological dig. This dig involved unearthing the tomb of an earth pony from the era of tribalism. He had leaned into a panel whilst on lunch break. fell through as it gave out and landed into a hidden chamber. Unfortunately for him, he was the only pony that ate his lunch in the tomb (something about watching for tomb raiders). It was then he found the book, "Terra Firma". When curiosity finally overtook him (a mind-numbing 7.6 seconds), he grabbed the book, only for it to tear itself out of his hooves and fly open and emit an eerie glow as the runes on the pages lit up. The words soared off the page and inscribed themselves on his skin. Weeks after they found him in the chamber, he awoke to find that he had been fired from the dig, charged with vandalization of an ancient structure, and, with great indignation from the head of the dig, invited for an audience with Princess Luna. Upon attending the Lunar diarch's summons, he was informed that the book in the tomb was a rare copy of the manuscript "Terra Firma", a treatise on earth pony magic. It was written by various earth pony scholars who had collaborated with the unicorns shortly after the unification of the tribes. Roaming could recall the runes on the pages flying and writing themselves all over his coat. To this, Luna responded that it only affirmed her beliefs. And so, both royal sisters had students to mentor. Funny thing is, they must think alike; both students wound up in Ponyville...
