Personality: Sapphire Gem is an elegant, ladylike, southern UK pony. But don't let that fool you! She is outspoken for what's right and stands up for her friends! She puts others before herself with her creativity and designs. She always strives to bring smiles to everypony's face with her creations. She usually leads the conversation but is a great listener as well. She gives great advice but sometimes is in need of some when things get tough. She's imperfectly perfect, and that's what everypony loves about her. She can laugh at herself and knows that everypony has their own great talent!
Backstory: Sapphire gems background

Sapphire was born in Trottingham where she lived with her parents as an only pony until she was ten. Before she started middle school her father, Asscher Emerald, and mother, Marquise Ruby, wanted a more pony influenced education for Sapphire and in the summer of 2004 they moved to Ponyville. There her talent flourished and she made friends quickly.

Sapphire had the quintessential teenage pony life, in high school was voted 'most likely to be seen in a magazine', attended most of the parties and galas, and had plenty of friends. By the end of her high school career, she was ready to strike out on her own and show all of the pony world her creativity.

However, not everything that glitters is gold. Right before her high school graduation Asscher's right eye went blind. Depression set in as he realized he could not fully see his daughters beautiful creations and within a few months his left eye went as well. They tried everything magical and medicinal to try and revive his sight, but the doctor said that even if something was going to take effect it wouldn't do so for a number of months, even years, to fully be restored. Asscher became so depressed that he rarely went out in public and secluded himself in their house. He did not attend Sapphire's graduation.

Recovering from the emotional toll of her fathers absence, Sapphire took to heart that we wasn't there and tried profusely to explain to him that just his presence was enough. He would not agree. Seeing the stress take its part on Sapphire, Marquise decided it was time for her to go on with her life.

So she used the family's plethora of funds to buy a town home for Sapphire in Canterlot and sent her there as a way to relieve the stress that he fathers condition had put on her. Little did she know that everything that Sapphire worked on was for her father, in hopes that each day would be the day his sight would be restored.

Hesitantly, she moved to Canterlot. It is still quite new to her but she has found her way around and is working harder than ever on projects in her fathers memory. Making friends in the big city was not as easy as it was in high school but she has one friend, Nightfall Starline, whom she met when she stumbled into his invention shop.

She is trying her best to make it in her new city, but at heart she is still the little British pony from the countryside and calls home every Sunday to talk to Mama and Father.
