Appearance: - Any colour so long as it's black: Or at least dark gray. Regardless of puffing his chest out to the world to play the big stallion. Shadow is a rather average built stallion and his body isn't quite one to marvel to those who would prefer the muscle of Big Mac. As for his colouring, there is an absence of much colour on his coat, rather it is dark gray all over which draws on the spectrum close to standard black.<br /><br />- The future is red: In contrast to his black everything what stands out is his bright red crimson eyes. Furthermore, in this day Shadow's mane and tail are a dark red colour with a long and wavy style going down. On some tips of his waved back style, there are a few edges that ever so slightly stick up. Both Shadow's mane and tail were originally black, but now magically permanently dyed dark red in honour to his idol, Flying Ace. Lastly his cutie mark of a shadow bat also has a purple outlining; this is due to the fact that shadows, when solidified have a purple outline.

Personality: - Intelligence vs Recklessness: Coming from a well educated background and having attended private schooling. Shadow Thrill does have the vast theoretical intelligence. Yes he has studied of history, law, philosophy, politcs, economics and magic. Now what has he got? Just a bunch of numbers and facts with no application. Yes displaying intelligence does not necessitate wisdom. Shadow is very prone to jump straight out into confrontations that meet him, with little thinking involved in the process, rather than all of that long term smart stuff to think about first. Indeed, Shadow is the short term thinker who would rush straight in and do what it takes to beat the scenario, even if it means a reckless charge, Shadow can act very recklessly even at the wrong times. He does speak and do what's on his mind, but don't expect him to speak and do the right thing all the time, as he most likely has not thought it through.<br /><br /><br />-So how is your love life?: Shadow is a sucker for a lot of things and a sonic rainboom is one of them. Perhaps that explains why Shadow has a tremendous fonding for Rainbow Dash? (And perhaps he just likes angry mares teehee.) In fact, Shadow can get very long with confident individuals, and is even more of a sucker for those mares who can brag on about their abilities. Yes, Shadow is very easily impressed by the world around him, it's all new to him after all; everything is fascinating. But why is he the undying fan of Rainbow Dash? Because she does all of those things and more, thus why wouldn't Shadow fall hearts and hooves for her? Well maybe Shadow likes a lot more but doesn't know it yet. But all in all, with a pony as amazed at the world he is in now, if one is aiming to be his friend then there is no difficulty in that.<br /><br /><br />-These aren't the ponies we're looking for: Hoof in hoof with his lack of wisdom and being a sucker to the world around him, this has led Shadow to become very easily impressionable, let's face it, he has an innocent mind. By his shadow magic and reckless defiance to hostiles, his weak spot would be his weak will. Seeing as Shadow has little experience with the world, he is easily influenced and prone to mental manipulation. Shadow would also easily fall prey to advanced forms of manipulation such as hypnosis or mind control.<br /><br /><br />-101 Things to do before you die: Above all, Shadow's biggest trait is being bold and determined. The strive to one day fulfil his dream of understanding what lies beyond the ivory tower that is his home nation. Shadow likes to think of himself as an adventurer, an explorer, one day to become the greatest adventurer and accomplish his dream of exploring every inch and corner, even to the ends of the earth. No more of reading a book of someponies perspective on life, he is out and ready to make his own. And if anypony tries to stop that or threatens his friends he holds dear to him, then he shall stop at nothing to see he pulls through. With his strong recklessness comes his 'determination' to direct it, and he will do what it takes for himself and his friends to go the distance.<br />

Backstory: (If you do not wish for a history lesson of his nation, skip two paragraphs)<br /><br />-The Golden Era: To begin with Shadow's backstory one must first understand the social conditionings of Ponytannia and previously the empire of Ponytannia. After Ponytannia had sought itself free from alicorn control, the nation of Ponytannia was founded and with it, generations of pride and paranoia. With the glorious revolution and the need a new image, at once the ponies of Ponytannia were no longer to be seen as subjects to the crow, but as citizens to the nation. With it, a new wave of nationalism and the idea of identity shaped the island to the west of Equestria, making it the first society to practice democracy and capitalism. Brand new social structures which were to forever flourish wealth and prosperity, material goods and competition, education and enlightenment, freedoms and righs based on a constitution. However... the oh so radical different nation to that of Equestria, could not achieve that perfect harmony, rather it had created differences within society itself. And for this, we will understand why the ponies live instead in these corrupt systems they did not quite theorise in the beginning and why they are insecure of the success Equestria proves to be.<br /> <br /><br />-Lives of Others: For many years in the past. Ponytannia underwent rapid development, believing itself to be in competition with Equestria. Grand projects were made to try and beat Equestria in every aspect, one which was exploration and colonisation, thus founding the Ponytannia empire. others being in the marker, the rise of major private coporations and economic circulation having the money move around for all. And most importantly saw the rise of a warfare transformation. Heavy emphasis of the 'Red Coat' army. (Literally red coat soldiers from the british empire) Those who would fight domestically and internationally, posted in Ponytannia and its colonies. The red coats wore long red trench coats and white colonist wigs. And perhaps the most fearsome was the need for a now authoritarian state, government branches that were the Majestic Intelligence (MIs). Those that wore the black attire would tap and spy on whomever were targeted, be it in Ponytannia or outside. Dreaded for their mysterious methods of torture, tapping into domestic lives and of course taking you in the middle of the night and 'vaporising' you so you are crossed out from history. The attitude to Equestria started from poor to poorer, and when war had finally begun between the two, Ponytannia had lost and thus the empire was no more (The Grim Wars). Life remained roughly the same after rebuilding with more bitter attitudes to Equestria, despite their help Celestia was kind to give; even as to give them home rule after they had become part of Equestria. To understand Shadow's history, one must understand the conditions he grows up in now, post-war.<br /> <br /><br />-In the Beginning...: Shadow Thrill was born and raised in the capital city of the island of Ponytannia, Academia. To live in the capital centered around politics and education, it was quite a luxry. Nearly everypony was middle class here and housing was providedto those who had been educated and were undergoing education in some of the finest schools in the land. Shadow was no different, being payed for education by his family and thus beginning his strict life of pressuring studies and books. In fact the only way to ever practice his magic was out of harms way in secrecy; not that it was forbidden these days, but Shadow did not wish to be responsible for inflicting harm onto anyone with his magic. It's understandable that in a dull black and white world where "Education education education" was the policy, Shadow would have to find something else to attach himself to, and thus as a colt he found a deep fonding for creating shadow bats, them being a particular kind of 'awesome'. A few years later after he had grown up some more, Shadow developed a rebellious attitude to his life conditions and one pony would motivate that...<br /> <br />-Some fights are not worth fighting: When Flying Ace had come into town, Shadow Thrill had to see him at once. Flying Ace had been a celebrity, a famous idol, for the reason of being an adventurer who made journeys into almost everywhere in the world. In fact being the first pony to have flied around the world. Shadow's reason of being attached to Flying Ace was because he had known Ace had seen the entire world, he had been out there and experienced the world for himself, not absorbing it from books like a sponge. Shadow wanted to do just that, no longer see anything in texts but to see the real material things of life. A pegasus was best for that, Shadow had always rather have been born a pegasus than a unicorn. After much playful teasing and stories not only of an account of the adventure but philosophies as well, Shadow constantly pestered to join Ace's group and adventure out with him. And to no surprise, Ace always rejected and teased in a joking manner naturally, he was a good stallion. During their encounter a mean and menacing pony had stumbled in, this pony being a die-heart nationalist, anti-Equestrian in every aspect. Looking for a fight the pony had smashed Ace from behind onto the bar and left. Shadow was left enraged, his emotions getting the better of him and he questioned angrily as to why Ace would not fight back. Ace replied that some fights are not worth fighting. Without taking this in, Shadow darted away and went to go and make this cruel pony apologise.<br /> <br /><br />-Auld Lang Syne: Obviously the situation escalated much worse as the cruel pony only took Shadow Thrill and sailed out to the sea, a few good meters away from the port of Academia. He threw the squirming and naive Shadow Thrill into the waters, and unable to swim Shadow was left to drown or even worse, become the dinner of a monsterous shark. And just before he was about to be devoured, a sonic boom rung in his ears and multiple colours had taken up his vision, only rainbow colours were spiralling around his head... but he was not dead. When on the sure he had come to his senses having just experienced the first thing to ever really thrill his entire life which would change it forever, always to love the performance, a sonic rainboom. Shadow Thrill was thankful to be alive, celebrating the very move he had read about and what he had finally seen. The celebration was killed off quick from what he would next see. From the very best experience of his life, to the worst, Ace's left wing was now missing. All Shadow could do now was cry, cry and hug Ace ever so tightly as the red maned Ace hugged him back, he may have lost a wing but he sacrificed it for the next generation. A few days later, Shadow Thrill had dyed his mane and tail red, the same shade of red Ace had for his mane and tail. Shadow took off to the ports to give his thanks and farewell to Ace, now admitting that he does not wish to join Ace, rather make his own set of friends like Ace had and explore and adventure the world with his new friends. Ace mocked him with the intention of pushing Shadow forward to accomplish his dreams, making Shadow a promise between the two that they would one day meet again when Shadow does become that adventurer he wishes to be.<br /> <br /><br />-Goodbye Ponytannia, Hello Equestria: A few years later, the policy of defecting to Equestria was no crime, provided one obtains the long passage of paperwork. Shadow had no care, now he had made himself that explorer motivated by a goal, no government would stop him. He unofficially quit his finest school in the world and in the night took off on a small raft. Majestic Intelligence had no idea of the plan, that was good as they would usually have caught and punished those planning to defect. However that wouldn't stop the red coats from opening fire, luckily enough no red guard had noticed a raft travelling out to sea at the night. It was not until way out did the Ponytannia navy catch a sight of Shadow on the raft. Perhaps if they did pursue, they wuld have caught him by now and Shadow would have been killed, though without the order to do so the red coat colonel shrugged it off. There was no way one naive stallion would ever cross the sea and make it to Equestria, he would die for sure. Shadow was perhaps one of the lucky ones for the weather and wind was on his side, as if destiny had paved his way across the sea without any navigation skills. Shadow and his poorly constructed raft would soon end up entering in the rivers leading to the Everfree forest. Much to Shadow's excitement, his official life as the adventurer was about to begin, starting with a resettlement.
