Slipstream

    • Age: 35-ish

      Gender: Female

      Species: Pegasus

Appearance: Despite what her pony-generator-images indicate, she doesn't actually have princess wings; they're just broader and longer than usual. Think a California condor, not a swan.

Cutie Mark: A spiral of matter descending into a single bright point. Kind of a vague image of "space thingy."

Her special ability, in line with this, is an innate knowledge of the stars and the ability to orient herself in the classical directions without the aid of landmarks or a compass(in a storm, deep fog, or over the ocean, for example).

Personality: Slipstream could initially be mistaken for being overly serious, critical, and disdainful, but this is more or less a manifestation of her high standards for herself and others. There are things she expects of herself but not of others - for example, she knows that she can lead a formation of pegasi longer than others with less endurance - but in general she expects the best from her colleagues and, in turn, from herself. The bottom line is always in mind, but the fallback of simply having reserves in case of a disaster almost never crosses her mind. Her soldiers are /her soldiers,/ and ideally that produces a mutual respect.

That's not to say she doesn't have a lighthearted side, though. When there's no task at hand, a more relaxed(though still quiet) version of her comes out to play with the other ponies. She'll never be the one dancing on the table, but she will be the one smiling, carrying on a quiet conversation and enjoying herself. By no means is she a buzzkill, but she does have a strict mental divide between "work" and "play" and becomes generally uncomfortable and unpleasant when the two mix.

That said, which she can't be called hotheaded she absolutely can and does make snap decisions, for better or worse. For this, she tries her best to keep others around her who know well enough to keep her in check and prevent her from sending everyone to their doom, but as fortune favors the bold it's just as often that a risk is exactly what's needed. It all depends on the situation.

--note: some of this may get changed or modified as I get accustomed to the character. please mind our dust.

Backstory: From the very beginning, Slipstream has been a wanderer. She'd soar the skies for days on end, which of course worried her parents sick, but she'd always return home safe and sound and usually with souvenirs in her saddlebag. The fact that there was a wider world out there was just too much for a growing filly; she /had/ to see it all, and generally after a certain point her parents stopped worrying for her.

They stopped worrying, that is, until they received a letter back instead of their daughter. She'd simply gotten an offer she couldn't /refuse/ while flying over Canterlot -- a chance to do what she loved and get paid in the process? A naval career was such an obvious choice to someone who already has a habit of guiding lost ponies out of storms when she comes across them. When her officers learned of her talent for navigation and direction, she found a niche, and while peace and harmony reigned she found herself comfortably rising in the ranks leading ships up and down unmapped coastline, attending the officer's academy whenever time permitted. Oh, they had their dangerous adventures, but wasn't that what exploration was all about?

Then, of course, with the return of Princess Luna came the swell of the New Lunar Republic, a popular uprising seeking to bring down a millennium-long, peaceful monarchy. Will a newly-minted Lieutenant be able to hold her own as an officer in a time of active conflict? Time will simply have to tell.
