Backstory: There's two versions here. One has the info you need to know for roleplays, and the other has basically the entire story of my fanfic and its coming sequel.

SHORT VERSION

Swordpoint is a pegasus from the land of Ponynesia, a cruel place ruled by the evil second sister of Celestia. Swordpoint was commander of the royal guardians, which are highly skilled and extremely deadly ponies. As part of his training, Swordpoint has learned to channel magic through his wings, although it is far more difficult than for unicorns, and it can kill him if he overexerts himself too much. Swordpoint traveled to Equestria when mysterious creatures invaded, but he was quickly roped into saving the land. Over time, Rainbow Dash offered him her friendship, which he finally accepted. He became close to her and eventually fell in love. He ends up being knighted by Celestia as Equestria's first royal guardian.

LONG, SPOILER FILLED VERSION

Swordpoint was born in the ravaged lands of Ponynesia to a single mother who served under the princess there, Omnia. Omnia founded the land after Celestia exiled her over 1300 years ago due to the evil which had corrupted her. Swordpoint's parents were both royal guardians, which were personal agents of Omnia. Unfortunately, their love was forbidden. Their prowess in battle was incredible, befitting their titles. When his mother became pregnant, Omnia discovered the affair and sent his father on a secret mission which turned out to be a trap. His father died there, and Omnia spread the lie that he was killed in action. As a foresight, she allowed his mother to live until he was born. At birth, he was taken from his mother, and she was executed publically. Wasting no time, Omnia placed him in the care of the Ponynesian Knights, who trained him from birth. The talent of his parents seemed to flow through his veins as he distinguished himself time and time again, eventually becoming a royal guardian himself at age twenty. He carried out every order and wish she gave, both unquestioningly and unfailingly. His service and skill led him to become the commander of the royal guardians at age twenty six. He began to train in the art of magic, as well, something that every royal guardian was expected to do. As a pegasus, he was able to learn to channel magic through his wings, but such an art is difficult to master. As a result, he learned many spells, but he could tire himself if he overexerted his magic.

When the reaplings invaded, he came to Equestria at her request to learn of how to stop them, but he failed. Recognizing the threat they posed, he collaborated with Celestia and met Twilight and her friends. Working together, they fought the invading creatures and traveled north toward the ruins of an ancient civilization which supposedly had the technology to combat the reaplings. On the journey, he saw great sacrifices in the name of friendship and love, and something changed inside of him. He developed a conscience, and began to question his decisions. He also developed an attachment to Rainbow Dash, who'd shown him only kindness. Overcome with guilt, he renounced his service to Omnia and vowed to stay in Equestria after the crisis ended. As the journey continued, it became clear that Rainbow and Swordpoint were bound by destiny. Sharing the same visions of the future, they continued on to Ponynesia alone while the others traveled elsewhere to assist in the battles for the final settlements of ponies left in Equestria.

In Ponynesia, Swordpoint quickly discovered that he'd been branded a traitor. Wanted all throughout the country, Swordpoint and Rainbow finally found the ruins they sought. They used its magic to enter the nexus, or the void of space and time. There, they met two ponies from the ancient civilization who'd sworn to never rest until the reaplings were defeated. They revealed that their entire civilization was destroyed by the reaplings and explained that they were the ones responsible for the visions Rainbow and Swordpoint shared. They then showed them the path into the home of the reaplings. Swordpoint and Rainbow pushed onward and fought and defeated the leader and ultimately ended the invasion. But they'd been followed by one of the royal guardians, who killed Rainbow Dash. Overcome with rage, pain, and hurt, Swordpoint fought his former compatriot to the death. He was victorious, but mortally wounded. He then returned to the nexus and learned of Equestria's grim fate. The only city left was Canterlot, but even Celestia had been killed. His guides offered him a choice: save himself and live on, or give up his life and his being to enter the heart of the nexus and gain the power to change Equestria's fate. Without so much as a second thought, Swordpoint stepped through the door and faded away. As he did so, he gained the power to give life, which he used to revive the slain ponies of Equestria. Before his consciousness faded for good, he closed all doors to the nexus so its power would never be abused.

Several months later, Equestria was invaded by the Ponynesians, who believed that the land was ravaged and weak. Their surprise at finding the Equestrians intact did not daunt them, and they fought onward. Distraught, Celestia managed to open a door into the nexus with Rainbow's help. Rainbow entered and found Swordpoint's spirit. She spoke to him and begged him to return if it was possible. Her love for him sparked a reaction which pulled Swordpoint back. He emerged from the nexus with a more youthful body and a greater resolve to stand against evil. Celestia knighted him in her service as the first Equestrian royal guardian and bestowed upon him a magical lance and magical armor. Swordpoint then went forth to lead the Equestrian army to victory.

He now spends his days living with Rainbow Dash and training the Equestrian royal guard.
