Cutie Mark:

Wrench crossed with a screwdriver; represents his talent with machinery.

Personality:

Tempest is somewhat shy when it comes to others. Most of the time he usually enjoys staying home messing with his ideas. So socialization isn't a big thing for him most of the time.

However, if the conversation turns into anything technological, he'll get easily enthused, and jump right into it. He does this so often you'd swear he could hear machine talk from a mile away. (Note: He can't.)

Of course, he's very defensive of what he creates. He'll do anything he can to back them up when someone doesn't assume they'll work, which can lead him to be a bit stubborn at times. On the flip side, if he clearly understands where he's wrong, then he's quick to admit to his mistake and try to make something better out of it.

His creations are like his friends. Even if they aren't alive. So they're a very big thing to him personally, and when things don't go right, he can get embarrassed very easily. Once more, on the opposite end, he's very proud of himself when he accomplishes something, and isn't above a bit of bragging at times.

Overall, while approachable, Tempest can get a bit hot headed if things aren't like their supposed to be with his stuff. But rest assured, he'll make it right one way or another.

He is also very intellectual for a pony his age. Having read and studied a lot of his craft, he's one sharp tool in the shed when it comes to how to work...pretty much anything.

Backstory:

Living in Cloudsdale, Tempest grew up in your average family. When he went to school, he got good grades, ignored bullies, fillies, all that jazz. The foals at school didn't faze nor interest him. What's more is, he preferred to be on his own most of the time. For some reason, whenever group work was done in class, Tempest would have a hard time due to simply not feeling he mixed well with others. That changed when his teacher notified his parents of this.

One day, his parents decided to get him a Jr's. Invention kit because why not. It was guaranteed to help your foal understand the value of teamwork, right? Said so on the box. Well, no. It didn't. In fact, it did the exact opposite.

When Tempest and his father sat down to try and use it...he ended up doing almost all of it on his own. Which, not only had an adverse effect of what they expected, but also sparked interest for something within Tempest.

After that he would try and play around with the washing machine, dishwasher, lights...and ended up being grounded for nearly destroying everything. But that didn't stop him. He kept going, even while on punishment, and did the one thing the kit said: Take notes.

Over time, Tempest got more invested into the world of machinery, and even went ahead to make a few of his own...things. Admittedly the first few were flops...well, the first few 50 or so. He tried making ovens, watches, lights...ok, he was probably thinking way too big at the time.

However, after watching ponies in Ponyville ride around in derby karts below, it gave him an idea...what if he used metal? "It would be heavier and harder to control due to the inertia upon the increased weight of the material. But it would be more durable due to the nuts and bolts instead of hammers and nails." With the idea, blueprint, and materials in mind, he zipped over to the junkyard in Ponyville.

He tried, and tried, and tried, and lord and behold he had soon done it. The first metal derby racer! Tempest took it out for a test drive, immediately lost control and crashed. He was no driver. But....boom. His cutie mark appeared. Despite the fact that he was bruised, he jumped for joy. With his newfound talent, he got better, smarter, and even went on to make a few inventions.

His dream of being a marketer was on its way...
