Appearance: A petite grey mare with a steel blue mane and piercing yellow eyes. Her ordinary accessories usually include a warm vest or jacket, saddlebags, and some sort of timekeeping device.
Cutie Mark: Her cutie mark is a winged envelope, indicating her profession as a delivery pegasus and mail carrier.
Personality: At first glance, Zephyr often comes off as brash, abrasive and stubborn with none of the traits being particularly incorrect. Some ponies may be turned away by her boisterous first impression, but those who befriend her will learn that she is actually incredibly outgoing and friendly, always willing to make new friends and meet interesting ponies. Despite her social behavior, Zeph is not any less comfortable or confident on her own than she is in a group, however she does prefer the former if given the choice.

Zephyr is incredibly impatient and must be active all times; even short periods of being idol can end disastrously. She becomes very irritated and rowdy whenever she is forced to wait on something or someone, even more so when it is a lazy friend. Zeph also has a very gamine and boyish streak as well, possibly attributed to growing up in a rough environment with four brothers for company.

Zephyr is not a very smart mare. The combination of very little formal schooling and a lack of interest often results in her jumping to the wrong conclusion or coming up with seemingly ridiculous answers to rather obvious problems. She is known for occasionally botching fairly simple instructions, although that is partially because she is very easily distracted and it can usually be avoided if a situation is serious enough to grant her full attention.
Backstory: Zephyr and her four brothers spent most of their early lives in the slums of Manehattan with no supervision to speak of. Since her mother up and disappeared after her birth, Zephyr and her brothers were left in the care of their grandfather, and old and overworked stallion who rarely had any time to watch the five rambunctious foals. As there weren't enough bits to afford tutoring for all five of the siblings, only the oldest ever saw the inside of a school. Zeph received almost all of her early education though the act of 'helping' her big brother with his nightly homework.

Without public schooling Zephyr never met any foals her own age, so for a long time her circle of friends only included her brothers, the backroads of Manehattan were also notoriously sketchy and the five siblings were forced to grow very close in order to stay safe in the dark alleys. Of course just as any unsupervised kids were wont to do, Zephyr and her brothers weren't unfamiliar with causing a bit of mischief in their time off. It didn't take long for the authorities to catch up with the fledgling delinquents however, and Zephyr found herself seated across the desk from an uptight social worker before she turned nine.

It was decided that the foals were only acting out because of an excess of free time and a lack of pocket money, the next day Zephyr delivered her first newspaper on her morning route. Initially Zeph expected to despise work, but she quickly began to value stretching her wings away from the cramped apartment and dilapidated slums. Her enthusiasm did not go unnoticed and by the age of thirteen she was working as a full time mailmare and had herself a cutie mark to match.

Soon Zephyr's dysfunctional family had begun it's slow rise out of poverty. Zeph even spent a few years at a local high school where she made her first real friends outside of her family, though most of them eventually moved off to attend college, which was something Zephyr had no interest in herself. Her grandfather passed away a year later, leaving the tight-knit siblings to slowly grow apart and find their own paths outside of Manehattan. Zephyr wandered from city to city doing a variety of odd jobs before finally settling in Ponyville and finding her place working at the Ponyville Post Office, making deliveries to every corner of Equetsria and back again.
