Pony Peeves

So this is an idea I had. A thread that acts as an opportunity to air some grievances about most things related to ponies and associated media. It's not a rage thread and I'd appreciate if there were no flame wars or raging, but debate can happen over points brought up. Everypony has little nagging issues with the fandom that don't really qualify as huge issues, right?

To start off:

Bad Pony Names - There's a certain method used to make a good pony name. You take a noun and a verb that flow well (Twilight Sparkle), a single word that fits their personality (Fluttershy) or a clever pop culture reference/real world term (Photo Finish). Those are the loose rules for pony names, more or less. But I'll often find ponies with odd names that just don't sound very pony. Especially ponies with human names, that really trips me up. John Sparkle isn't particularly pony.

Canon vs. Headcanon - Headcanon is great, don't get me wrong. It makes for fun theoretical conversation. But actively ignoring canon events to maintain that headcanon is just kind of stubborn and contrarian. An example of this is the flame wars that erupted when Vinyl's eyes were shown to be purplish and not red. Half of the fun of headcanons is filling in the blanks in the canon material, not ignoring it to keep the ship from sinking.

Taking it Too Serious - This might look hypocritical given the nature of the post, but getting legitimately angry or going on a crusade over something in the canon doesn't help anypony. Equestria Girls turned out to be a great vehicle for Sunset Shimmer's story, Princess Twilight is still a gawky nerd and MA Larson isn't literally the devil. It's a cartoon about singing pastel ponies, be chill.
