Babs Seed - GarageBand cover

Thunder Note

Recommended Posts

There's a low end fuzzy synth that sort of throws off the whole thing. It would've been better if you just had a regular bass playing the bassline running on octaves.

Also, your percussion sounds too stale! Give it some human feel too it.

As a matter of fact, the whole thing sounds too robotic. Give it some human touch. it would make the whole thing sound much better.

Also, your drums have too much mid and high range. Give them some bass to add some depth. As a matter of fact, this will work for the entire mix.

Overall, this track could use quite a bit of work. I'm here if you need any help in understanding what I stated in my critique.

Yeah, what ThunderDash says applies here very much. You see, the wonderful thing about the human voice is that it's able to add expression very. Replacing that with a very stale melody voice doesn't work very well, especially with a song like Babs Seed. The melody just sounds really stale compared to what the vocals were like in the original song.

Also, with the exception of the bridge, the whole song sounds the same. If the melody didn't change, I couldn't tell the verse apart from the chorus. That is, you use the same exact instrumentation throughout the whole song. To risk sounding like Vinyl, don't be afraid to drop the bass. Or the percussion. Or give the melody to some other instrument for a section. The thing about this genre is that it has potential, but people who write for it feel like every instrument they use needs to be plaything the whole time. I get it. I used to think that. But don't be afraid to drop out a voice for a time. It gets annoying for the listener to always here the same voicing.

I like what you're trying to do. The staccato synthesized accompaniment sounds really nice and adds a great effect. You just need to change a few things so it's a bit more interesting throughout. Especially the melody.

Hmmm.  All of the instruments sound cheesy and fake.  Sort of like a MIDI from a 90s game being played through a generic General MIDI soundfont.

Well OK, I can do something with melody and add some bass to percussion. But I'm not sure if I can add some "human touch". It's mobile version of GarageBand. Sounds of instruments are in not so good quality and they DO sound cheesy. I think that it's the one think that I cannot change. I'll remove piano, add real voices and also try to make percussion more realistic, but I can't do anything with quality of sounds of instruments.

Also C. Thunder Dash I'm not sure which "fuzzy synth" do you mean. Can you explain where is it exactly?

@@Thunder Note,

You can hear it in some parts of the intro and verses. It's playing the roots of the chords: Eb, C, Ab, Bb.

I'm afraid that there's no synth in the intro. There are:

- two guitars (Acoustic and Electric with Hi-Drive Treble Boost Effect) playing chords: D#, Cm, Gm G#

- bass which is following these two guitars

- piano

- percussion

- a guitar (Classic Clean) which is playing power chord D# all the time
