A Matter of Arcane Love (Private 1x1 between me and The Ponyville Critic)

Arcania smiles and holds her close, she tears up a little "That's so sweet, well it's alright miss Shy, did you two enjoy yourselves?" she asks and continues to hug the filly, she couldn't think of a reason as to why her parents would abandon her, she hoped that Twilight was having luck tracking them down, a tear trickled down her cheek and landed on Star's muzzle

"We had a good time, she's just such a sweet little filly. I can't imagine anyone leaving her behind, unless there was no other option." Fluttershy said. "I'll leave you two to talk, I have to get back to my animals." Fluttershy trotted off.

 

"What's wrong?" Star asked Arcania. "I heard big ponies only cry when they're sad."

She looks down to her "Just thinking why your parents would abandon you, you're the most special little filly I know, so cute and sweet" she says softly and hugs her "and if I am able to be your full mother, I will do everything  I can to help you have a happy and safe life"

"I don't know, but I know I don't care..." Star Gazer said, she reached up and put a hoof on Star's chest. "...they're gone now, but you're still here. And when you say you will never leave me, I trust you. And so does Ted, he belonged to my mum, who gave it to me." Star giggled and put the small teddy bear on Arcania's head with her magic.

Arcania smiles and hugs her close, nuzzling her "you are such a special little filly" she says and smiles more as she then scoops her up and holds her close before putting her back down and looks at her "Well, now that is settled, we ought to go the castle, I have a few books there I would like to look at, and I am sure Twilight would like to spend some time with you, if your'e lucky Princess Cadence may be there too"

Star just snuggled into Arcania. "That sounds nice, I can't wait to stay with you."

 

-10 years later-

 

Star Gazer  was walking down an aisle of books in the Canterlot library. She was supposed to put all the returned books back onto the shelves, but the organisational system still confused her.

"Magical books, magical non-magic books... story books, how original..." Star said, placing a few books back.

Arcania was busy helping a little filly find a book she needed for her homework, "Oh, I think that one was just returned, if you're lucky, my daughter Star has it" she says and the filly giggles and runs off to find Star. 

She finds her and gently tugs on her tail "M-miss Star?" she asks shyly

"I should really talk to Mum about this system. Star Swirl's Magical Compendium does not belong next to a children's book about the princesses..." She complained, readjusting her glasses. She then felt a tug on her tail. "Oh, I'm sorry, uh, can I help you with anything?"

The filly looks up at her "D-do you have um..what was it..oh yes, Basic spells for Elementary Level" she says with a soft smile "I have a school project on the history of magic" she says softly and shuffles her hooves, "Y-you're really pretty too" she giggles and blushes deeply

"Aww, thank you very much." Star smiled. "If you follow me, I can show you. This is a really big library, and trust me, I've gotten lost in these halls a lot more than I care to mention." Star put the books into a pile in front of the bookcase. "Well, they're as organised as they were before." She whispered to herself.

Star got the book from the shelf for the little filly with her magic.

"Here you go, all the spells in this book are fairly simple. But if you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer them. I've spent a long time reading up on magic, so if you're having trouble let me know."

She nods and hugs her "thank you miss Star" she giggles and skips back to her homework table to resume her studies. Meanwhile Arcania was busy talking with another mare, it was Twilight and she sighs "Any luck? I mean it's been ten years Twi, she's 16 now, she should know the truth"

"I don't know if we should tell her, I mean look at her she's happy, she's got this job, she's still got you, and that's what really matters. How well will she take the news?" Twilight said.

 

Star smiled as the little filly hugged her. Helping little ponies find their way is what made this job worthwhile for her. She looked over and saw Arcania and Twilight in a bit of a heated discussion. But she had books to re-order so she went back to that.

"But Twili, she does have the right, I'm not arguing with you that she may not want to hear the news, there's no doubt that it is a possibility, but she does have the right, and what am I supposed to tell her if she does ask?" she asks and sighs a little, rubbing her temple "But..if you really believe it is for the best to not tell her..then I will agree not to"

"It's your decision to tell her, Arcania, but I'm just warning you that your actions may have long-term consequences. Reminding of her of one of the most traumatic incidents of her life may not be what she needs right now. But as I said, your decision, you're her mother."

she nods and thinks and sighs "Your'e right Twilight, I will trust your judgment, she's currently sorting out books, if you'd like to see her" she says and hugs her "I should get back to work, the little filly over there looks as if she is having some trouble with her magic practice, are we still on for dinner?"

"Absolutely, i'll see you tonight, okay?" She said as she walked away in Star's direction.

Star turned around to see Twilight.
"Oh, Princess. I saw you were talking to mum, but I didn't want to interrupt, how are you?" Star asked.

"I'm, doing fine... are you keeping up with this place? The library is really big, but I guess you know that, huh?" Twilight joked.

"Yes, yes I do..." She laughed.

Arcania smiles and giggles as she goes over to the filly to help her with her practice "Oh you see sweetie, you're trying an advance spell, only ponies of certain ages can do that one, here, give this one a try" she says showing the filly a simple levitation spell and the filly giggles and hugs her as she then tries it.

"Alright, well I won't keep you too long, I'll see you later then." Twilight said.

"Thanks for coming by, there's a lot of books here..." Star said, looking up at the bookshelf.

As Twilight walked away, Star Gazer dropped by where the little filly and Arcania were

practicing magic.

Arcania smiles "Oh hello sweetie, if you want to head home early so you can get ready for dinner with Twilight, you can, I'm sure I can do the rest of the sorting myself, or if you'd like you can help little Blossom Seed here with her homework" she says with a smile, she was so pleased that her adopted daughter was as keen to help others learn

"I can help her with her homework, I've always wanted to be a teacher, maybe some day I might." Star said, as she sat down next to Blossom. "Although, let me know if you do need any help with dinner tonight, it's not every day we have royalty dining with us." Star smiled.
