A request for vectorization lighting help

I was never the artsy type. I tried sketching, but it didn't click with me. Having long used Flash for various projects though, I do like vectorizing pretty much. I did a little project lately focused on backgrounds and had quite some fun with it. One thing that I realized though, was how difficult it was to get the lighting right. In all instances there, the light sources are pretty far away, so a little color tweaking here and there helped get rid of most noticeable flaws.

Recently, I thought of doing a little project that requires getting my avatar vectorized, and while I feel I've gotten most of it right enough, the light is too much and I find myself out of ideas on how to approach the matter.

I'm currently using three light sources (gradient ovals, going from 80 to 0 percent alpha): one for each eye and one for the ambient light overhead. When I try to increase the light coming from the eyes, the ovals overlap and create a weird-looking zone in between. And that light source definitely needs an increase in strength, the entire face should be basked in the eye-based light...

(I notice the things wrong, too: like the right eye source going too low, the background getting affected by the light unnecessarily and the fact the hue of the light changes from white to light pink. All minor things that can be easily amended, contrary to the issue at hand.)

Here's a link to the .fla file (233 KB), if this should prove useful in any way. I'll appreciate any help in understanding how to tackle this conundrum.
