What do you do to feel comfortable when selling/buying online

Hi all, I'm curious what you would do if you were in my position. I am selling a some of my collectors items (some mlp and other stuff). The thing is I've found someone that wants to purchase it all and we've agreed on a price and even spoke on the phone. The buyer wants to do a background check on me before he pays unless I ship the collection first (which I'm not doing). 

I don't have anything bad in my background but I feel like that's a little excessive for online sale.. So you can have a better idea we're talking around 3k dollars. I told him he can do one of those background checks using my name on one of those websites like www.backgroundcheckrepair.org/ (they helped me find a record previously) but I wont give any extra information other than my name and address. 

I do sympathize with him cause it's a good amount of money and you want to protect yourself and make sure you don't get taken and that's exactly why I don't feel comfortable with giving any other information. Can anyone offer any type of advice OR if you can think of a safe way for both of us to do this where we don't have to drive hundreds of miles I'm all ears.
