Slumberlumber 90 October 30, 2024 Share October 30, 2024 My sibling and I are almost done the main show itself (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!) and are looking into getting more of the lore. Problem is...there seems to be three (or more) of gen 4 comics out there, that I don't know where to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
DebonedAngel 197 October 30, 2024 Share October 30, 2024 (edited) Gosh, that is a TRICKY question. I actually own all the comics myself and have read them all several times over, and... I think the best thing to do would be to break the series up by publishing dates and storylines, as many of the comics do reference each other, and there is a "timeline" of things that happen in the comics and only in the comics, but that other comics draw from. In my humble opinion, the comics are amazing, and a good half of them are better than the last few seasons of the show! They are very much worth the effort to go through and track down, and I really really hope you enjoy them! I'd say that right off the bat, start with the main series, just the "My Little Pony Friendship is Magic" from IDW that came out in 2013, and read the first 14 issues. Then, read the 2013 "My Little Pony: Micro-Series" comics, issues 1-10 Then, go back to the main series and read issues 15-29, Then you'll go over to a third series, called "My Little Pony: Friends Forever" and read issues 1-15. Then, read the 2014 Annual (these are usually just side stories, but some are important to read in order) Then, if you WANT, you can read the 2014 Equestria Girls Holiday special, but... please don't. It's really bad. Then read the miniseries "My Little Pony FIENDship is Magic" (which is honestly fantastic) Then back to the main series, issues 30-37 Then back to Friends Forever, issues 16-23 Then the 2015 Holiday Special Then the main series issues 38-53 Then Friends Forever issues 24-38, which finishes out that series! Then the 2017 "Guardians Of Harmony" special Then My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Legends of Magic Issues 1-12, which is a bit odd, and didn't flow as well as the main books, but is important to the overall lore Then the 2017 My Little Pony Deviations (a dumb, silly story, you'll like it) Then the My Little Pony Movie Prequel comics issue 1-4 Then the 2017 holiday special Then back to the main series and read issues 54-65 Then My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic: Legends of Magic Annual 2018 Then Ponyville Mysteries (the comic, not the novels, but those are good too) issues 1-5 Then back to the main series and read issues 66-74 Then Nightmare Knights issues 1-5 (My fav of the miniseries!) Then IDW 20/20 Then My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: Canterlot High March Radness (I have not actually read this one, it's the only one I haven't. After the last EQG comic... I just couldn't) Then back to the main series for issues 75-88 Then Spirit of the Forest issues 1-3 Then Feats of Friendship issues 1-3 (this is the only time the student 6 get a series, I believe?) Then (and this does break chronology a bit) My Little Pony/Transformers: Friendship in Disguise Issues 1-4 Then My Little Pony/Transformers: The Magic of Cybertron issues 1-4 (these two series can be fully skipped if you don't like transformers tbh) Then My Little Pony Generations issues 1-5 (kinda weird if you don't like the old generations, but I do, so I thought it was fun) Then..... You get to season 10, the official end of the series! Read the main series, issues 89-97 Then the 2021 Annual (this one does need to be in order, don't skip ahead) Then issues 98-102... And you're done! This is a long, confusing journey, but if you follow the timeline I set up, you'll get through it in no time, with no trouble! The main Friendship is Magic comics series has been collected into seven omnibus volumes. Friends Forever has three omnibus volumes. Legends of Magic and My Little Pony: The Manga each have an omnibus collection. Most of the other miniseries have had trade paperback collections.
Slumberlumber 90 November 1, 2024 Author Share November 1, 2024 I Checked the omnibusses on Amazon. Over a hundred bucks for just one! Too rich for my blood thus far.

Too rich for my blood thus far. What? Most of the omnibus collections were $24.99 (US) each when I bought them, with the manga omnibus priced at $19.99. That said, I do see where the manga collection is going (used) for around $90, but most of the others are still around $20 or less. Even so, I don't see any of them at $100, not even the first (hard to find?) collection. Are you in the US? Ah but I do have Amazon Prime. Alright, I'll try and see if I can get some omnibuses from the States.

IDW has also published shorter collections that might be easier to locate than the omnibuses, especially the early ones.

In Spain is very difficult to find. And Panini only translated like the first ones (Chrysalis, Cadance and shining armor, Machintosh and Luna and nightmare Rarity).

Might just for the comics, not sure how much it'll cost though.
