First Pony Pic (Nightmare Moon and Luna)

Howdy! I'm new here, though I've sort of skipped the intro board (I do hope this is the right board to post this kind of thing...).

 

This is my first pony pic, MLP fan art, whatever-ya-call-it. I'm extremely pleased with how it turned out. 

 

 

 

I realize it's a little off, but considering this is very far out of my regular art-style, I am very happy with it. I also realize this is Luna's "old" appearance, but I decided it was slightly easier to draw, and she probably wouldn't look all that "royal" and "magnificent" whilst on the moon, anyway.   Criticism and comments are appreciated!

Anyway, I really dig how this came out. At first it looked a little strange because I am so used to seeing ponies in the typical FIM style, but then after a second I realized that these more resemble actual horses and I'm down with that. In my opinion it's hard to draw that kind of angle that Nightmare Moon's in, but you nailed it so good job.

 

If you really want to add some more depth into your picture, try making the shadows shaped like the characters that they belong to. This is probably the only criticism I can actually give regarding this.

Luna's hair looks a bit off. It looks like she's been swimming 

 

But yeah, i really do like it, and I agree with Bababa about the shadows. That would be cool.

My intention was to make it as close to the show's actual style as I could, though I guess I didn't do as good a job as I thought.   In the show, the shadows all look to be little circles, lol. I guess I'll go back and change mine to match the image a little more. Thank you for the suggestion.

Yeah, I got lazy by the time I got to Luna. The whole picture from start to finish took me about four hours. I should go back and fix that, lol.

I think this turned out really good for a first try fan art. I love nightmare moon's mane, it has a lot of movement in it. Considering they're on the mooooooon ((mmm bananas)), her mane looks ever more flowy.
