himanuts 165 February 19, 2013 Share February 19, 2013 First of let me explain what a Karkadann is. It's basically a unicorn that was said to roam the deserts of Persia and India. What made it different from the standard unicorns seen in most mythologies was it's curved horn and that it was sometimes said to be a carnivore. Some stories even go a far as to claim that Alexander the Great's personal horse was a Karkadann. And looking at some renditions of this mythological creature...I can see the similarities with the tyrant king of the Crystal Empire. http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs46/f/2009/197/c/4/Lunging_Karkadann_by_CunningFox.jpg Frankly I find the idea interesting. And who knows, maybe Karkadann's could be another species of Unicorn within the world of Equestria. Maybe a race of more savage, cutie markless variants (considering that we never saw Sombra's cutie mark, this could be an explanation. Mind you, I'm not saying he doesn't have one.) The introduction of Saddle Arabians and Changelings opens the doors for a larger variety of equine species to be introduced. Karkadanns could be another. Just a little something I thought would be fun to share. Kind of tired of seeing so many Twilicorn threads. XD

XD Given the fact that his robe was always being worn and covered that area, there's no reason to assume he doesn't have one. Other than that, a very interesting find and comparison. himanuts 165 February 20, 2013 Author Share February 20, 2013 That's why I say that by no means do I believe he doesn't. Just exploring an interesting idea, nothing more. I want to see more on the world Equestria is set in, and considering the different alternatives with equines in mythology. It's fun to ponder on how the concepts could be executed. poniesforfun 716 February 20, 2013 Share February 20, 2013 That's an interesting discovery. But King Sombra has already been described as an unicorn by Celestia. And I'm hoping you're not saying carnivores are necessarily evil. :/
GuerrierCosmique 146 February 20, 2013 Share February 20, 2013 King Sombra is an archetypical "dark lord", an antagonist of many stories, especially in high fantasy. He has been designed with Sauron from Tolkien's legendarium (like Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit) in mind. 1 Alex, Alex! You're walking away from history! History!
