My review of Twilight's Kingdom Part One

Just saw s4 finale    just thought to make a review about it while it is fresh in my mind. By now some of you might be thinking " But Shimmer, you said you were going to write about Twilight's Mary Sueness" and yes, I will be getting back to that shortly, but first, the review.

The episode starts out with the normal Mane-Six-are-under-the-crystal-empire-castle-talking-about-stuff-because-of-Twilight's-royal-princess-duties scenario, and some of the first dialog we hear Twilight say is complaining that her life has barely changed since she became a princess and that she isn't as important as the others and that all she ever does is "smile and wave." Um, Twilight, that's most of a princess's life, I mean, raising the sun and moon has been shown to take about ten to twenty minutes each, and Cadence was your OWN FOALSITTER before she actually ruled the Crystal Empire, and even then, most of it is just sitting on a throne, sometimes signing a paper or two before lunch with a bunch of grumpy delegates. I mean, has she even seen her own theme? Anyway, after Twilight gripes to pretty much everypony about her "oh so horrible situation", she thought that since talking with the other princesses didn't give her the advice she needed, she decided that it would be better to just sing about it, specificly the one with the worst lyrics and visuals in the show's history. Here are some of the lyrics to give an idea of the thought put into this song:

 

Patience is never easy

I understand wanting more

I know how hard it is to wait

To spread out your wings and soar

 

Know that your time is coming soon

As the sun rises, so does the moon

As love finds a place in every heart

You are a princess, you'll play your part

 

I want to have a purpose

Want to do all that I can

I want to make a contribution

I want to be a part of the plan

 

Seriously, either these lyrics are either completely boring or not true about her. For example, Luna says that Twilight needs to be patient and wait to " Spread her wings and soar", but in the last season finale, Magical Mystery Cure, Celestia sings that she's "come a long, long way" and that she's completely ready for power, which she kind of had from the beginning. So if the song is treating possessing the most powerful element of harmony, saving Equestria, like a billion times, living under the wing of the MOST POWERFUL MONARCH for most of her life, and being the fourth (or fifth) alicorn on the show, and arguably the most intellectual pony in the series as true accomplishments, then we can't take this song's message to Twilight very seriously. It just doesn't work

But don't think I hate this song, because despite boring visuals and cheesy lyrics, I liked the song itself. Ok, I'll stop complaining about Twilight, I'll move on to one of the best things about this episode, one element that makes this episode KICK SOME TOTAL , and that awesome element is the main villian. So what about it, are they a creative new villain, who is introduced using more or less subtle hints, or is seen talking to themselves/henchponies about their evil plans. Actually, this mysterious pony is seen stalking a unicorn pony, before SUCKING EVERY LAST DROP OF ANY MAGIC IN HIM BEFORE LEAVING HIM DEAD IN AN ALLEY, and this creature is none other then TIREK FROM THE G1 PREMIERE!!! Wait, WHAT ?????? Ok, so the pony didn't really die, he was just weakened to the point of not being able to do anything. For those of you who don't know, Tirek was the very first MLP antagonist, with the movie being all dark and 80's-ish, and it makes since that his episode would be darker than most G4 ( and definitely than all g2 and g3) episodes. His introduction was just so AMAZING that if it weren't for the fact that it's animated horses, it could be easily mistaken for a murder scene or a Doctor Who episode opener. It was DA BEST MLP SCENE EVEH, but then, it turns out to be a result of Celestia eating cheesecake before bed again, but Luna and Cadence had the same dream and just decide its a psychic vision, and call Twilight to tell her about their master plan and have a nice flashback to G1. Twilight believes that she'll save the world on her own again, but then she tells her that she's replacing her place as Ponyville defender with Discord, who she claims will be able to track him down better, and then sends her off to her old castle to mope, while Discord gloats in her face for like ten minutes, and pulls out the diary and tells them what the audience knew the whole time about the box and keys.  Then after a scene of dialog between Tirek and Discord where Discord OPENLY ADMITS HE HAS A CRUSH ON FLUTTERSHY , Tirek offers him freedom from, something, and Discord just agrees, and a traitor is born  .

The episode ends with the other princesses telling Twilight that Tirek is stealing power from ponies that aren't unicorns, and wants their alicorn magic that can basically kick his and will be coming for them any minute and that soon they will overload her with all of the princess magic and casually send her back to Ponyville, under the assumption that when he comes, he will see them playing a sad game of Portal and will just leave them alone, and that Discord won't say a thing about her existence.

 

So, that was part one. Will Twilight single-handedly save the day again while I complain some more? Will it look like a pony Dragon Ball Z fan dub? Will I upload part two later this week or wait several years just to make a video about it? Only time, money, mood, laziness, free time, final exam grades, computer battery life, and other timey-wimey-wibbly-wobbly will tell
