Eldest of 4 siblings, parents deceased. Got his Cutie mark at the age of 10 when he had to do a class demonstration of various magic spells. By using many spells in ways they weren't supposed to be used, he managed to teleport the class halfway across the continent. Granted he was just trying to teleport himself to the icecream store.

From there he realized that his love for magic was in taking all the types of magic and lifting them above their intended use.
