Me vs. My Astronomy Teacher and An Ex-Air Force Member

Wouldn't that just be the ultimate cage-fight? Me, my astronomy teacher who is half my height, and the assistant math teacher who used to be in the U.S. Air Force.

So this entire week, my school has been doing various fundraisers for the Tree of Giving, which helps give toys to underprivileged children. Most of the events were staple high school fundraisers (food-eating contests, pay-for-a-prank [which ended with my math teacher smashing a phone with a ballpoint hammer in front of me - hilarious!], etc), so my runner buddy and I were uninterested in contributing. That is, until tonight.

Because tonight was flashlight tag. That wonderful word "tag" is like catnip for distance runners.

Basically it went like this: pay a dollar at one end of the field and get five tickets. The field was dark, and you had to make it from one end to the other without getting caught by teachers with flashlights. The teachers could only shine the light about ten feet in front of them, so it was sort of fair. What wasn't fair was that the only viable path from the start to the ticket collectors at the other end was through my astronomy teacher, a young woman fresh out of college with WAY too much energy, and the ex-Air Force math assistant. And dang. She is FAST.

The entire event was a contest between the four grades in my high school. My runner pal and I showed up an hour late, so we only had thirty minutes to make any impact. We, along with one other semi-runner junior, were the only three from our class. The freshman who we ended up tying with had over a dozen all running at once. I love being an endurance runner.

So because it was a tie, it all comes down to who made more money. We'll find out tomorrow. Can't wait to see the freshmen's faces when they find out they got destroyed by two guys who showed up late after eating themselves silly at an awards banquet.

Should I bring a camera?
