Hello. I recently began rewatching MLP:FIM and noticed that during the course of 3,4 and 5 seasons, each CMC had an episode based on them (and Princess Luna helped them as well :LunaMCM:). I will briefly summarize and review the 3 episodes, and then explain why they are important to CMC story  arc.

Spoilers below!

Episodes

The episodes that make up this group are Sleepless in Ponyville (though it more of in a forest since they went camping), For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils, and finally, Bloom &  Gloom.

Sleepless in Ponyville

The_first_campsite_S3E06.thumb.png.c26b1fecd507c086b2862faa5b93b4e9.png

In this episode, Scootaloo joins a camping trip with her friends, the CMCs and their sisters. Scootaloo learns that Rainbow Dash goes with them as well, and wants to impress her so badly. Unfortunately, she gets scared of stories that RD tells her and the others, and gets nightmares from them. Princess Luna tells her in a dream that it's time for her to face her fears, and later in the episodes she does so by coming clean to Rainbow.

I feel like this one of the best episodes in season 3. It has major character development, i.e. Scootaloo learning to face her fears and knowing that she doesn't have to be not scared to be Rainbow Dash's friend. :dash-sweg:

For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils

Rarity the stormcloud :rage: (above)

In this episode, Sweetie Belle gets angry at Rarity for her making the dresses for the play she and her friends made too good and thus, stealing the spotlight. Sweetie gets revenge at Rarity by ruining the headpiece for an important customer, but Princess Luna shows her (in a dream) that her sister's carrier might be ruined as well. On the next morning, the CMCs go to Canterlot to fix the headpiece and save Rarity from certain doom.

Sweetie Belle learns in this episode that Rarity was only trying to help, and not steal the spotlight, as well as  that you should be responsible for your actions and fix mistakes whenever possible. So, lesson learned, Sweetie Belle :flutter-write:

Bloom and Gloom

Apple_Bloom_sick_of_cutie_marks_S5E4.thumb.png.a47fbaa70bbd24d8ebaba38e9b92dfc6.png

In this episode, the CMCs receive the news of Bab Seeds getting her cutie mark. Apple Bloom gets worried about not being able to be a CMCs once she gets her cutie mark, among other things, and that anxiety turns into a repeating nightmare. With princess Luna's help, Apple Bloom learns that she isn't the only one who is worried about earning a cutie mark, and that it won't change you, no matter what you get (sorry Applejack for stealing your song :mlp_lie:).

Apple Bloom learns in this episode that it doesn't matter what your cutie mark is, and it won't change how other ponies feel about you ( especially your friends and family)

Why are these episodes important

In these episodes, the CMCs learn important lessons about growing up, since it is a hard thing to do. They also learn to rely on each other, no matter with a cutie mark or not. Letting children watch how the characters develop might chance their point of view too (probably in a good way). That is one of the main reasons I like MLP so much. It teaches life lessons in a friendly and interesting way.

Conclusion

in conclusion, I think that these episodes played an important part in CMCs storyarc and teach great life lessons that might make a good friendship report to Princess Celestia.

You can also vote on which one of these episodes had a more significant impact on a CMC and wherever  princess Luna does a good job with her dream duties.

Good blog! I think it would’ve been cool to see Luna continuing to mentor the CMC as the seasons went on. Like how Celestia has the mane 6, she could’ve had the CMC. Would’ve been interesting I think from what we saw in the three episodes you talked about!

Princess Luna's duties are so overlooked, and she is a misunderstood character who I feel gets criticized far too often, in fact there are more issues with Celestia than with Luna, as Princess Celestia though it may not be intentional, Princess Luna's mental health problems could have been paid more attention to by her sister, I know Celestia is not a qualified mental health expert either, however she is still a family member, that is the important part, I love them both equally however I don't feel like Luna gets appreciated enough, yes she is popular, at the same time though, some of the criticisms fans give this character in my opinion are very unfair.

Yes, I voted Luna doing a good job helping her subjects, there's enough consistency in her behavior to say she does care about the well being of other individuals.

You're right. Luna does get underappreciated and it's true that Princess Celestia could've payed more attention to her feelings, and that might have even  prevented her from banishing Luna (aka Nightmare moon) in the first place.

Thank you for those kind words, @Iforgotmybrain! Your idea for Luna mentoring the CMCs is also really good. I got hooked and tried finding fanfictions on this topic but  I think nobody wrote one.

I agree, however I would not say it was malice on Princess Celestia's part, more like ignorance, Princess Luna's pain built up from all the neglect and discrimination from other ponies, and eventually she sought solace from a dark power that took over her, depending on if you connect the comics to the TV show canon, some people do not, however that's beside the point, it is clear that Luna's weremare fiasco could have been avoided if Princess Celestia had discussed it with her sister sooner, if we are talking about the TV show MLP FIM only, Celestia was not directly to blame for the misunderstanding that occurred, but what she did, did contribute to Luna holding onto that negativity.

Some people do not see it this way, however I see Princess Luna's interaction with CMC in the dreamworld as an extension of her empathy, I've made it clear before to other people, though some people may not agree with me on this one, that reoccurring nightmares can be traumatizing and interfere with sleep, some nightmares are normal, but when they happen too often they are a sign of an underlying problem that needs to be addressed, Princess Luna, understanding the mechanics of the dream world in some way, her interaction with other ponies did have its benefits. I do not care what other people say about her, the truth of the matter is this, what she did for Cutie Mark Crusaders, particularly in Sleepless in Ponyville did have a positive outcome for Scootaloo in helping her with her confidence and not taking competition with Rainbow Dash too seriously.
