Etrian Odyssey part 1.

Now I know what you're thinking. "This is a science blog! Not a game blog!" To you, I reply that it's my blog and kindly kick you out with my giant spiked boots that explode on sole/target contact.

You might also be wondering what the Tartarus IS Etrian Odyssey. Well, person who likes to give happy names the place where the damned are punished in everlasting anguish, Etrian Odyssey is a dungeon crawler based around a giant tree known as the Yggdrasil where you have to traverse a number of stratums to uncover the mystery du jour about the labyrinth.

It's also extremely fluxing hard. How hard? Well, the fact that it's Atlus' hardest series might be an indicator as to how hard it is.

For this post, let's talk about 3. From where I am now, I need to stop

the king of Armoroad

from making yet another stupid move. What other stupid moves? Well, from what I hear,

he let himself be possessed by the afore mentioned Yggdrasil tree, is forced to kill his sister who apparently has the blood of the Eldritch abomination he's supposed to fight to gain immortality so she could be reunited with her brother,

and there's the creation of this female canine:

Meet Olympia. You encounter her early on and seems to help you...

That is until the second floor of the second stratum where she throws you against a bunch of FOE (below bosses but hard as the happy place mentioned in the second paragraph). Weather you flee like the cowardly little survivalist who like having all their organs in one piece or stay and fight them, you soon discover her secret:

She's a robot (an Yggdroid to be precise.)

She then sends you against the king of all the trouble against Armoroad and possibly the Earth.

Across magma.

Without resting at the nearest campsite.

This is the part where you want to disassemble her bolt by bolt.

Well, good news: you can kill her and the king!

Later on, you can chose whose side you can take: the queen's side or the king's side. Side with the queen and you end up fighting her... But in the fifth stratum because at the end of the fourth, she summons this annoying little dragon-horse:

Kirin.png

Meet Kirin. Perhaps one of the most annoying bosses in the game.

Perhaps even the easiest from what I've heard. Let's see what he does:

A fire attack every 5 turns that gets stronger when he loses HP (Fire prophecy counters his fire attack with mine);

A tail swipe that hits everyone on my team (Protect Order auto-heals);

A move that head-binds my team, another one that leg-binds my team and a counter that everything-binds (unbind and theriaca A that does exactly that);

A lightning move that deals more damage to binded targets (Anti-volt+unbind)

A FEATHERING REFUSAL TO WHATEVERING DIE!!!

Even my Wolf howl-charge-Front Motar+Dark Ether+Attack up+crit boost deal only triple-digit damage!

Well you'll at the very least be indifferent to know that I HAVE beat the annoying thing after using all my TP-healing items and managed to explore a bit of what I've unlocked in other floors.

Including the butterflies that poisons your team for massive lethal damage. You know what that means?

It means that after all the tables in my neighborhoods are flipped and every swear word in the English language has been said, I get to fight that annoying thing ALL OVER AGAIN!

But that's ok because that's what the game is about: extreme rage at the unfair difficulty.
