  1. The Diamond Dogs, Flim and Flam, Ahuizotl, Garble, Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra (discounting the comics), Lightning Dust, Dr. Caballeron, the Mane-iac, Suri Polomare, Lord Tirek, the Dazzlings, Wind Rider, Spoiled Rich, Svengallop, Principal Cinch, and Zesty Gourmand would like to have a word with you. Considering one of Sony's criticisms of that draft was that it played out too much like an episode of the show--specifically, leaving past characters underdeveloped or plot points unexplained as if the whole audience is already familiar with them--this could be fairly likely. After all, the goal any movie adaptation should strive to achieve is to stand on its own even if viewers unfamiliar with what it's based on.
  2. Sadly, I found something that drastically lowers the odds of this happening.
  3. Ach, there's an official activity book that supposedly covers the entire plot of "Top Bolt", and neither Lightning Dust nor Wind Rider are anywhere to be mentioned. Oh, well... Still, this means we can look forward to something new. At least I haven't gone into detail over what the episode is about.
  4. We're already getting an AJ/FS map episode this season. That just leaves TS/RD, and judging from what we've learned from SDCC, it seems obvious where they're going, though it ain't the Badlands. If they exist in Equestria Girls, they have the potential to actually happen in FiM. Who knows, maybe LD could've gotten the idea from RD's stories while they were hanging out.
  5. Well, if those two characters appeared in Ponyville again, it'd probably get old, if you catch my drift.
  6. Ever since a Wonderbolt episode involving Twilight was confirmed at SDCC, I've wanted to believe this will be the episode where Jim's "Anti-Wonderbolt" tease becomes a reality. We can deduce that this will be Twilight and Rainbow Dash's turn to be called by the map this season, since we already had Pinkie Pie & Rarity, Applejack & Fluttershy will happen in a couple of weeks, and none of the other leaked episode titles fit better than "Top Bolt". What better opportunity for Wind Rider and Lightning Dust to go around stirring up trouble that the map wants our duo to fix?
  7. Well, given the setting of the episode, it makes perfect sense this character would return. I was even sort of expecting this to happen since before the "secret character" hype started. But you know what episode would make sense for Lightning Dust to return in? The Wonderbolt Academy episode that was teased at SDCC. Rainbow Dash is practically guaranteed to be in it, too, since 1.) It's a Wonderbolt episode, and 2.) Twilight is confirmed to be in it, fulfilling the only map pairing this season that hasn't been done besides PP/RT and the upcoming AJ/FS. I'm willing to bet that LD will be involved in some kind of trouble that the map wants RD and TS to fix; in fact, what was it that Jim teased just last year, again?
  8. That's not true. I can't count any moments where Pinkie Pie was terribly unlikable since season 5 started. And whenever she did, she actually suffered consequences.
  9. An episode where we find out Discord isn't the only draconequus in existence, and they aren't happy with how he's gone all "harmonious".
  10. Liev Schreiber says his role will be "safe" for kids; when he mentioned his character would "eviscerate" the ponies, he said it'd be in a verbal sense. With that in mind, the darkest villain we've had in G4 is Tirek, so I doubt the movie villain will be too much darker than he was.
  11. I believe the script revision was confirmed by the leaks themselves. They said it was written as though the entire audience would already deeply familiar with the characters and lore, not bothering to actually explain what alicorns are or why they're so important. Good for pre-established fans, maybe, but it needs to attract a bigger crowd than that. Then again, the Sony executive who wrote it actually advised that doing a repeat of the Smurfs move with ponies would be the only way it could make any sense to them. (Thank Celestia that they ditched Sony and saved us from such a travesty.) That little bit of credibility-demolishing information aside, they do have a point. If you're making something that's deeply entrenched in the continuity of something else, you should always add a little time for your audience to get to know what's happening. If not because you think they're mindless goldfish who'd watch anything, then to help them better invest themselves in the story.
  12. Big misconception on the "William Shatner is appearing" bit: he only MIGHT be appearing, because the staff would really like him to and he has shared his interest, but nothing has ever been set in stone as of yet.
  13. Yes, I gathered that from your previous comment on another thread (my response was deleted due to character limit abuse I don't intend to repeat). I guess this means now everyone who reads Equestria Daily seriously believes there will be hippos in the movie; though on the bright side, we know there will be hippocampi (seaponies) and hippogriffs, so it's not all bad. I guess we can close this thread now.
  14. I looked through the SDCC liveblog on Equestria Daily, and it said something of a live table read of a scene from the movie. However, this wasn't mentioned on the cleaned up panel breakdown. Does anyone know what this reading entailed, apart from a mention of the so-called "Queen of the Hippos"? Other than knowing whether or not this character is the same as new character Songbird Serenade, it'd be nice to know some more info. Then again, I'm assuming it wasn't that flavorful considering no one's talking about anything other than the new character(s).
  15. The "Queen of the Hippos" line reportedly came from the SDCC panel itself, during a table read of a scene from the film, apparently. I'd like to know what happened in it...
  16. As far as we know, no. But no one said there wouldn't be more than one villain. The Russian panel suggested there'd be an entire group, or perhaps even an army. If that's the case, I think we can expect a few named minions.
  17. You mean this guy? (Sorry, I found a good image but I'm not allowed to link it from a Wiki.) Anyway, that's Grogar. He was the villain of "The Return of Tambelon", a four-part TV special from the original G1 My Little Pony series. And considering they imported Tirek from the same generation, this may not be entirely out of the question. As for that interview with Liev Schreiber, he described his role as "the evil monster who [verbally] eviscerates all the little ponies". Take that as you will.
  18. Well then, let's hope the advertising doesn't put people off. Then again, people thought Frozen and The Lego Movie looked silly from the advertising, and see what monster hits they became. Maybe good word-of-mouth from critics will help, too.
  19. So we currently have four definitively confirmed celebrity cameos, plus two that are in talks (I know the latest article lists them among the confirmed actors, but we don't have an article wholly confirming those two). Now let's guess how they'll fit into the movie. Here is all the info we have from the Russian leak about the new characters we can assume will appear: A famous new singer who's supposed to perform at the start of the movie (it could be Rara, but it'll probably be someone new) A group/army of villains who come to Equestria, presumably from the foreign land the Mane Six must travel to An underwater kingdom of seaponies Pirates and hippogriffs Keep in mind that some of these roles may overlap.
  20. Let's hope the movie is just as big, because that picture was made by a fan on DeviantArt. It got the approval of someone working on the script, though.
  21. I don't think they mean a team of past villains like the comics. But judging from the leaks, there will indeed be a group. If they're pulling out all the stops, maybe it will be an entire army of them. Of course, this would also mean there'd be a singular head villain commanding them, with maybe a distinct lieutenant or two and a few other agents scattered throughout the movie, working against the Mane Six.
  22. A sizeable part of me believes there will be far more media press generated towards the brony audience, most of it ignoring how good the movie actually is. The brony boom of 2012/2013 may have ended, but I'm expecting a resurgence, and while it may stir up interest, it may not be the best kind. After all, we're stuck in an age where the evaluation of gender norms is closer to the center of national attention than ever before, if ever it was.
  23. I never said there was an issue. I like them quite a bit myself. And as for the background (a better look here), I really hope the visuals will look like something straight out of a painting or a storybook. That would be incredible.
  24. If you're satisfied now, just take a look at their conceptual design: https://derpicdn.net/img/2016/5/1/1143943/large.png
  25. According to the Sony leaks, the "alicorn lore" draft was rejected because it read like something geared more towards initiated viewers than a general audience. Not that it'd be impossible to craft an easily accessible story with such rich lore, but getting as big an audience as possible is all part of the film business. Unfortunately, the "villain team up" thing was a pretty bad misreading of what was actually written. The Mane Six aren't teaming up with villains; they're teaming up with, or at the very least getting advice from, ponies who are familiar with the movie's villains. In this case, those ponies are the seaponies, and the Mane Six become seaponies themselves to better survive and navigate their underwater kingdom.
