  1. Still have a copy of the N64 version of Super Mario 64. Funny. Too bad I see them at a local thrift store for like $40, and I have no intention of selling it because I haven't beaten it yet.

There's also the matter that I lost my best collector's tin of Yu-Gi-Oh! cards somewhere in my house, and it comprises of the ORIGINAL Yugi and Kaiba starter decks, both of which are roughly $100-200 now iirc (ranging from loose to sealed). I think that's the closest thing to 'broken' I have, at least setwise. It was missing a few cards that I traded away.

I'm also positive I have a few old-school Tamagotchis laying around somewhere in a buried box somewhere. I consider buried stuff lost for good, until proven otherwise. *shrug* My parents are too damn unpredictable when it comes to moving things around.

Final Additional Point: Completely forgot about the Heroes edition Latios and Latias Pokemon cards I left in my wallet that fused together in the washer. Blast it all. =_=

  2. Oh boy, where to start...

    • I'm a huge mecha anime fanatic.
    • I'm on a quest to find a girl who can put up with my mecha shenanigans. I doubt it, but hell, it's a fun quest.
    • The majority of my Gundam model kits are unbuilt in my room, still boxed because I'm afraid to do anything with them until I actually have the paints and materials I need.
    • I build and fix computers as a secondary hobby to gaming.
    • I enjoy the Super Robot Wars series (for obvious reasons), even the untranslated ones (which I can make sense of menu commands, but not dialogue).
    • For those of you that wish to know, my favorite Super Robot is a three-way-tie between the Shin Getter Robo, Black Getter Robo, and the Mazinkaiser. Real Robot-wise, the RX-93-v2 Hi-Nu Gundam and ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam.
    • My laptop is covered in mecha and pony stickers.
    • The previous fact is going to be an issue when I finally get my MSI Dominator. RIP Pavilion.
    • I have two sugar gliders, two cockatiels, five parakeets, and three cats. Isn't THAT an odd combination?
    • Insects don't scare me, they surprise me.
    • ...my Black Rock Shooter picture folder is currently 625MB.
    • An extension of the previous fact: I can't keep folders organized half the time, and I still have about six 2GB+ flash drives of pictures I need to sort through and categorize.

...that pretty much covers the main stuff, I'd say.

  3. From a technical standpoint, I don't even think such a thing would have been possible. Plus, to add onto that concept, people would have griped over the inability to transfer their Pokemon from R/B/Y to the newer gens. I'm not entirely sure that the way stats were calculated back then would have transferred over without some major modifications to the level-up system (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). It would have been USEFUL, but alas, pretty sure that the GameCube is dead by now. For Smash Bros, sure, some people still prefer the GC controller over the Wiimote system, but that's the only reason why they released the GC adapter for the Wii U.

If it's enough of an issue, you COULD technically always just run your Pokemon that you want to transfer through PokeGen and create replicas that you could port through Black/White and then to the Bank. Not exactly LEGITIMATE, but it would do a similar job. :/

I know the feeling, though. Kind of makes me miss the G/S/C and original 3rd gen days.

  4. Gonna say right now; I like MapleStory's OST. Whoever they have composing for this terribly pay2win MMO...he knows what he's doing. My top two favorite tracks (one from a party quest area in a haunted castle, the other from an anime-based giant robot area):

Also gotta give a mention to ANYTHING from the Super Robot Wars series, for those of you that like 8-bit or 16-bit renditions of anime openings.

    SRW A - Last Impression

    SRW D - HEATS

SRW D - Stand Up to the Victory

  5. My background has the tendency of fluctuating randomly, but...I dunno, I kinda like this one. Logo for the media player, foobar2000, for those that are curious. Sleek and simple.

  6. Oh god, teeth. *shudder* Oddly enough, I USED to have amazing teeth. I have no idea what happened, but it led to me eventually having to get a root canal for an upper tooth that was the result of a previous filling falling out and getting infected (needed a crown), and another needing a crown, yet not a root canal, because we caught it early. Can't complain; the abnormal feeling of a foreign object in my mouth faded away after a while, but I agree, having to have your teeth fixed sucks. Big time. :/

Best of luck on it, though.

  7. Well, let's see:

-Among the Gundam, Black Rock Shooter, and Getter stickers on my laptop's lid is a DJ P0n3 sticker I bought my first year in the fandom.

-Roughly 3 to 4 DJ pins on my Bag of Holding sling among the Gundam and Kingdom Hearts ones.

-A few random fading pony stickers on the handrest of my laptop.

-Filly RBD sticker on my iPad's back.

-At least one DJ rubber bracelet on my wrist.

-I've taken to wearing the old DJ hoodie I bought at Hot Topic a few years back during the colder months. I wear the hood up occasionally but other than that...it's comfortable.

I'd say it's PRETTY damn obvious at this point. Judge it as you will, I've stopped caring about negative aspect and wear it because I feel like it. *shrug*

  8. What's hooked up to that thing? My build checked out at well under 300W and I picked an FX-8320 and GTX-750ti FTW(and another of my online friends has an over-clocked i7 and pretty decent GPU on a 500W)

I BELIEVE the last I checked, the GTX 570 is about 500W itself, from the Nvidia forums. Not sure about my specific model; my friend handed me this 1280MB Galaxy GeForce GTX 570 and I threw it in the old build, hoping it would do something for me. Sadly, it did not, and it was probably because of a combination of that incredibly old single core Athlon and the cheap 500w PSU that came with my case. This is all going in an Aspire X-Superalien, btw. Freaking love this case.

    $60 for S939...

You sure you don't want to just pick up a 20th anniv. Pentium dual-core for $10 more and a cheap board? It'll take you a lot further than the X2.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117374&cm_re=Pentium_Anniversary-_-19-117-374-_-Product

About that, there's an X2 4200+ going on Amazon for about half the price: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0009RKLRG/

More than likely. You might want to contact EA and see if they have a less hacky method of getting your newer card to work with it. I doubt it, but worth a shot I guess?

I...wow, thanks for the suggestion. o_o

Any specific boards you can recommend for that CPU? I might have a change of plans if it's better than that...the only issue would be looking for my CPU fan's old box and seeing if there's an LGA 1150 bracket for it.

  9. So guys, I'm doing something so incredibly hilarious that it's borderline stupid, yet a bit cheap. I have an old 2005-esque gaming machine, I'm sure I've mentioned that before in this thread. The one with the Athlon 64 3800+ Venice CPU? Well, I was doing some research about it, and decided to build a budget 2006ish upgrade to it just to see how it would perform. I was doing some research yesterday about the types of CPUs that were made for the pre-AM2 (939) socket AMD mobos, and found out about the Athlon 64 X2 4800+ Toledo dual core.

...and then I found one on eBay for $60.

BASICALLY, I've decided to revamp my build a bit, throw it into my brother's old EVGA 133-K8-NF41 mobo with 4GB RAM and a GTX 570 that my friend gave me, and see what it can do. Seeing as how the Venice was running 100% any given time, I figure that this Toledo will do...something. My brother thinks it'll run what I want for the time being, until I get the money for my new laptop and better desktop. A partial upgrade, I'm looking forward to it.

...there's also the fact that my 500w PSU wasn't going to handle my GTX 570, so I ended up buying my XFX PRO1050W Black Edition 1050w early. Pics forthcoming, probably in a week or so. I need to determine if there's something wrong with me for defaulting to a 939 build instead of an i7 or an FX for a budget, slightly behind the present gaming build. @_@

  10. Oh, THIS should be fun.

-Ridley and Mother Brain from Metroid: Zero Mission. This is coming from someone who's COMPLETELY NEW to the series, I wasn't really prepared for the reaction time that was required for even the most basic strategies until I had died at least 10-20 times. Blargh.

-Razor and the police chase directly after he is defeated from Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005). It took me a long time to figure out his driving style...as well as a good bit of cash and miscellaneous races to buy the Carrera GT and even then, it was annoying when he'd randomly shadow you and fly past like you were standing still. Don't even get me started about the Condition 5 police in the chase either; to this day I have an INTENSE hatred for rolling roadblocks. Also, screw the hirpins near the fire station and this game's physics system; you do 100+ MPH around that corner: YOU. WILL. FLIP. DX

-Normal Mode Magnus from MapleStory. I...yeah, screw this too. To this day I STILL can't beat him, and it's mostly due to two factors. One, balls falling from the ceiling can take away 50% HP or kill you instantly. Two, you can only heal ONCE EVERY THIRTY SECONDS. It's going to take more firepower to bring this guy down, and...who knows when I'm finally going to be able to finish him off. Don't ask about Hard Mode. Just...don't.

  11. To be honest? I live by the mantra "Watch what you like, like what you want to like." The anime is for kids argument is baseless as well, and a show like MLP...if you like it, watch it. Who cares what other people think. Hell, I watched Sailor Moon with my cousin when I was younger, up until I was like 13. Of course, nowadays that's pretty standard fare for everyone, but I still didn't let anybody's opinion of it get to me. *shrug*

  12. I don't have much experience with MSI laptops. My only impression was a friend's 17" which he returned. Build quality wasn't amazing.

Amazon has an ASUS GL551JM for around $1100. It's an 860M and the reviews are pretty good. One review mentioned they were surprised at how much cooler it was than the y50, interestingly enough.

It is a single fan design though, but good enough engineering trumps that, I suppose.

To be fair, the Lenovo only throttles when the CPU is fully loaded, but if you're buying a laptop like this, I'm guessing you need the power. :)

Edit: Is the 840M enough? If so, your price is doable.

Anything for light to medium gaming works fine, merci for the input. May end up grabbing a GL551JM in the near future. Leave the ultra-heavy gaming for my desktop and the simpler stuff to this.

EDIT: Might be a little stuck with desktop graphics, actually, now that I'm on a roll. What would be the best precursor to an SLI setup for gaming on near-max graphics? Hoping $300-400 range on a single GPU, nothing super high-end. I've heard that a GTX 770 in SLI will crush a GTX 970.

  13. Consider the ASUS G75 in that price range with the 860M. I have a y510p and Lenovo disabled turbo to prevent the CPU from overheating. Heatsink is shared between CPU/GPU and throttles based on a relatively low temp, locking it at it's base clock.

I like the laptop but frankly the cooling sucks and from what I've read on the Lenovo forums, the y50 is no different.

Heh well that sucks. As for the G75...I was HOPING for something in 15.6" so it would fit in my dragonscale Bag of Holding. Nothing TOO overpowered, I'm hoping for around the $700-800 price range if at all possible. Probably a bit too tight for a laptop that would be half gaming and half college work, but...yeah. Any thoughts about this one?

  14. So after my stepfather decided to reignite my desktop-building drive, I've found a combination of components that will give me more power than the G751 for literally $1,000 less. Kind of surprised, I didn't think it was possible, but then again, desktop builds ARE becoming more affordable.

Now then, on a laptop. I wanted to get one in tandem with this build; would a Lenovo Y50 be a nice upgrade from an HP Pavilion G6-2129nr? I'm looking for a cheap gaming laptop that DOESN'T sound like a jet fighter anytime I launch something like Steam or even something incredibly low end like MapleStory. It LOOKS like a good deal for $1,000, I mean, hell, it's got a GTX 860M in it, and that HDD is definitely a jump from my 500GB.

  15. Animewise, New Mobile Report Gundam Wing is definitely one of my all-time childhood favorites. Even moreso when I actually got around to sitting down and watching it in its entirety.

Western animation...hm. Probably a tie between Courage the Cowardly Dog and Invader Zim. God I miss those two.

  16. The punk rock cover of the Bed Intruder Song. Combines the vocal shenanigans of Jordan Pundik (New Found Glory), Ethan Luck (ex-Relient K), and Hayley Williams (Paramore) into one glorious song. I'm more familiar with Jordan and Hayley myself but yeah. Personally prefer this version. >w<

I also can't forget to mention Trivium's cover of Master of Puppets. God, this cover is great, but...probably not as good as Metallica.

  17. 21 male, still a mecha anime nerd, still single, and growing to love it. After all, when else am I going to have time to sit here and groove to Barbie Girl out of boredom and shenanigans?

...no, seriously, I'm just the nerd kid that sits in the back of the class with his laptop covered in mecha/pony/BRS stickers.

  18. I personally don't think Steam's an issue at all when it comes to the decline of PC games; the Cloud storage of purchases doesn't bother me in the least, and I think it's a nice jump forward from physical copies. I'll admit, I love having Morrowind and Oblivion for their respective Microsoft consoles in a physical form, if only for nostalgia purposes. Steam gave me those in a downloadable format so I no longer have to tote around a jewel case.

Pretty much this, Bethesda games are nothing without mods patches.

To be fair, I'm sure the situation is better with more modern consoles, but that Xbox of Morrowind version was something.

Also this, because active modding communities are the bomb for their work on making console-to-PC ports look even better than before. Pre-Steam games weren't ALL that bad either, hell, I remember my first 95 machine and the release of the previously defunct Presto Studios game The Journeyman Project. But that doesn't mean that I think Steam killed it. The team even came back together recently for a semi-reboot of the brand with Pegasus Prime for Windows, and I still love me some old-school time travel shenanigans (can't forget the extremely snarky AI constructs, either). Can't really bash Pajama Sam, Putt-Putt, and that horribly bad Tonka game that are stashed away somewhere in my house either; my interests changed with time.

More on topic, I think that account-tied purchases has helped more than it has hurt, at least in my experiences. DRM IS annoying though, that I can agree with, and it's probably the only reason why I'm not currently in a rush to buy Mass Effect 1/2/3 from Steam/Origin. Same with Assassin's Creed and UPlay. So no, I won't blame Steam on ruining PC gaming, because the companies are the ones implementing DRMs and being annoying.

  19. If you don't need the portability, build a desktop. You can get far more power for that $2k. Desktops are certainly not dying out.

    Amen to that.

The portability is HELPFUL, considering I'm a full-time college student and I generally move around a lot. I don't even have a desktop anymore, really. Just this 2012 HP Pavilion g6-2129nr that SOMEHOW is able to run stuff like Garry's Mod, Fallout 3, and Oblivion on decent settings. Has an annoying issue where if you move it around, the graphics chop out, the audio goes to shit, and everything just lags for a short time before it goes back to normal. I USED to have a desktop, and I'm...kind of afraid to put the specs up. XD

I built it back in 2005, it's in an old silver and red Aspire X-SUPERALIEN case, sporting an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ Venice processor, and originally had a GeForce 6800GS in it that I somehow blew up with Skyrim. A friend gave me his old 570GTX a few years ago, and I've been dying to test it out, but...the processor is shit to the point where it stutters like crazy, and to be honest I don't even try to boot it up anymore. *shrug*

  20. Oh goody, a PC gaming thread. =w=

I'm just breaking out on the scene after several years with consoles. Still gonna keep my PS3 until I'm able to play Hyperdimension Neptunia and Disgaea on my PC, but other than that, I think I can safely say that I'm trying to get into this. My friends have been recommending me laptops for the longest time, telling me desktops are dying out and aren't worth it anymore. As a builder, I'm definitely in opposition with them, but the price CAN climb rather quickly. Hence why I'm giving into buying a gaming laptop.

I've recently decided to focus on getting my hands on an Asus G750JZ-DS71. Anybody here know if it's worth the $2k for this monster? I've been doing my own research, and it seems like it'll run everything I want on it for the time being. I'm not looking for something hellishly overpriced, but this seriously seems like a good deal compared to Alienware's silly bells and whistles. I've also heard good things about Asus's support. The weight isn't an issue; I don't mind carrying a 10lb laptop around if I have the right kind of padding.

Just thought I'd pop in here and get an opinion.

  21. Initial D is wonderful, Ayaze. Great anime, it's quite unique in the genre. Well, except for eX-Driver, but that series was...kind of bleh. Main character gets a Lotus/Caterham Super Seven though, and I'm sure we all know how awesome that car was.
