Which brand is the best for running shoes?
9x18 replied to Apple Bloom Bot's topic in General Discussion
I have some Inov-8 Roclite 295s for trail running/lightweight hiking, and they are great. They also offer a variety of shoes made for other surfaces. Second having someone at a good running store help fit shoes, though. Not every brand works for or fits everyone.- 18 replies

technology Any Bronies who like/work on cars?
9x18 replied to sunset_sprint's topic in Media Discussion
I'm not an enthusiast, but I do a bit of work on my own car (BMW 540i6). Someday I hope to restore an old BMW 2002. Mostly learned out of necessity over the years. It certainly is cheaper to do it yourself whenever possible. -
^ Pretty much this, although smoke is not a phase like steam. It will be cooler than the fire, but the actual temperature will be that of the air which contains it.

I played cornet (like a trumpet) through middle and high school - marching, symphonic band, etc. Once in a while I'll pull it out and play for a couple minutes, but I'm not as good as I used to be.

What does Twilight's cutie-mark truly represent?
9x18 replied to Commander_PonyShep's topic in Season 3 Discussion
I agree with the assumption that the five small stars are about friendship/elements of harmony - seems pretty straightforward. The base part of the cutie mark, the six-pointed star, could be some family representation of magic. Shining Armor's mark has the same star. The insignia he wore in A Canterlot Wedding also bears the same symbol, and it belonged to his "favorite uncle". Parents don't seem to have it, though. -

movies/tv What is your favourite James Bond movie? [Poll]
9x18 replied to Lisa's topic in Media Discussion
My favorites, in no particular order: 1) Live and Let Die 2) Diamonds are Forever 3) From Russia with Love The movies with Dalton as Bond were among my least favorite - not because of the actor, but the quality just seemed to dip around that time for some reason. -
Traits associated with the Autism spectrum that go along with those I mentioned include things such as difficulty with social expectations, picking up on expressions / being expressive, etc. I have no observed Twilight having consistent difficulty with any of those. As a filly (during the entrance exam, for example), Twilight's expressiveness, eye contact, interaction, communication, etc. was certainly neurotypical and does not appear to be consistent with AS; at least, nothing jumps out. I briefly mentioned these traits before, but my apologies if I was not clear why I mentioned these aspects. Poor working memory is also very common with the personality type I claim she fits to - it could just as easily be explained with this. I do not think her list-making is routine for routine's sake, but only routine because it is a recognized necessity. I'm going to half-disagree with this. The series is about Twilight making friends, which requires socialization - the two are not mutually inclusive or exclusive. Twilight's socialization behavior is completely typical of a introverted thinking individual (aforementioned personality types). When socializing, there is disinterest which can be perceived as awkwardness. This is because she does not want to be there (again, for the aforementioned reasons of mental stimulation), but I observe no difficulty in the sense that she does not know how to interact with others when forced to do so. My explanation from this comes from the perspective of someone with a similar personality. I suppose the AS vs. introvert would hinge on inability to interact with others in neurotypical fashion vs. has no desire to interact with others, respectively. I'm leaning to the latter. I was not familiar with OCPD. After doing a quick read on the subject, I agree with an assessment of OCPD.

I disagree with the idea that Twilight may have Asperger's. Her personality is very typical of a scholarly introvert, and is very close to that of a stereotypical INT_ personality. These personality types do have a number of traits that overlap with Asperger's, but there are key differences, particularly with respect to social cues, protocol, and expression. Here's my take on some of the behaviors brought up thus far: List Making Lists serve simply as a reminder to ensure everything is complete. It isn't to help ease the stress of managing things, compulsion to follow a ritual, etc. For someone in their own head constantly, items which need to be done can pop up and be forgotten quickly. Making a list is just a method to help with this type of forgetfulness. Socializing Preferring not to socialize does not necessarily indicate that she has a personal difficulty with, or aversion to, socializiation per se. As we can see, she has no problem interacting regularly with her close friends in what many would consider a normal or typical manner. Her type of personality demands mental stimulation; this is not provided (or expected to be provided) by small talk or chatting with random individuals. I'm pulling this bit from memory, but if I recall correctly, even in social situations we see her with a book on more than one occasion. Time alone with thoughts is her type of relaxation. OCD She may have mild OCD. First thing that pops into my head is in "Spike at Your Service", Applejack gets Twilight's attention by moving the ink well. Twilight not only reacts immediately to that and acknowledges Applejack's presence, but also quickly moves the ink well back to its proper position. There was nothing inherently wrong with the ink well's new position; it remained functional and appropriately located for use. "Lesson Zero" catches some of it as well. The deadline for the letter was mostly self-imposed. Like with the ink well's position, it seems atypical for Twilight's logical personality to place so much emphasis on something which really has no meaning, if you will.

Been getting INTJ for many years on these tests, and my personality and behaviors support the result. I'm not particularly surprised that many fans are introverted, seeing as the MLP phenomenon began and is largely sustained through the internet. I was extremely surprised by the number of INTJs showing up on the survey, however.

Luna is a very intriguing, and I have an almost inexplicable fascination with the character. I would definitely like to see more development; she has been consistently presented as complex and mysterious, which leaves a substantial amount of room for her use in future episodes. I'm not entirely sure on what I would like to see specifically. Perhaps situations with her in a "take charge" role instead of Celestia? More of her night-time works and responsibilities would be interesting...

It works on iOS for me, but it's supposed to work with Android as well: "This is a savegame editor dubbed "Luna's Dreamwalk" (silly name, I know) for the Gameloft "My Little Pony" game. It is written in Java and currently has the capability to modify savegames created by game version 1.2.6 (Android) and 1.0.2 (iOS), which are the newest versions of the game (4/5/2013). It will not work for versions older than the "Hearts&Hooves-Day" version." -

The quality of your school/college/institute's curriculum?
9x18 replied to Bucky McGillyCuddy's topic in General Discussion
Word counts always bothered me (quality over quantity, right?), but the assigned topics seem like important theory on the university level. It is important to not only have good results, but to understand why the work/results are good and how to consistently create such things in the future. That's just inherent to a B.A./B.S. level education. While I was in undergrad, there was a lot of theory studied in my engineering program. However, when I got out into the "real world", I felt terribly unprepared. Only in hindsight can I now see that the practical application was minimal or non-existent. In today's world where college degrees are expected for many careers, this seems like a massive oversight. The education I received adequately prepared me for advanced degrees, but wasn't great for jumping straight into industry. -
