  1. That's a plot, not theme. ET has a plot about an alien and a kid, but the theme is really about empathy(what specifically about empathy, I can't remember). All great screenplays dramatizes a lesson. What is your story really is about? I don't want characters or a setting. Why didn't you read what I wrote?
  2. 'Good' has no target audience. To fill in character space I will expand upon good as meaning 'well crafted'. The writers and the artists know what they're doing, so of course people of ages, genders, what have you, will appreciate the work.
  3. For any of you thinking about turning your story ideas about something, I would suggest you not tell us completely about what happens. It happens a lot that when writers paraphrase their story completely that they swiftly lose interest. They've already told the story to people, so there is no desire to see it through fully developed. It's not a guarantee you'll loose interest but something you might want to keep in mind. It's something a writing forum I go to advises, as this has happened to many of their members. To answer the question, yes. I hope to have my own movie studio to see my screenplays and graphic novels to creation. I have a few projects I'm working on now. I don't really feel like going into them. To the OP's story: I think you need to come up with a theme, a 'why' you're telling us a story. Stories always have points, look at FiM, they always have moral and this moral dictates how the story plays out. It's like an armature that the story hangs upon. I think your story would do well with a theme that questions upbringing and if we would turn out similar if we were brought up the same way. That is a scary thought. But the theme needs a definite conclusion, I think(?), perhaps 'We are the product of our upbringing' and you support that theme throughout the story. I'm still struggling with theme, but I recommend Brian McDonald's 'Invisible Ink' if you want to pursue writing it.
  4. No, it's not. Get back into the gender norm, what you're born as dictates how you're suppose to act. Herp-a-derp. Being sarcastic over here, don't mind me.
  5. Once Upon A Time, which means history which no one bothers to learn, there was a man named Elvis. His music borrowed heavily from black artists. White teens fell in love with him, but parents thought it was inappropriate for their cherished middle class white children to be listening to black music, "Racists attacked rock and roll because of the mingling of black and white people it implied and achieved, and because of what they saw as black music's power to corrupt through vulgar and animalistic rhythms..." Walser and Nicholls, p.358 He should have been more white and less controversial! Jeez. For those of little imagination, I present to you how I would write a gay couple appropriate for a children's show. Drum Roll! They live in the same house and they call each other names like 'hon', 'sweetheart', 'dear'. Exactly how I would write a straight couple. Took awhile to come up with an appropriate gay version, but I think I pulled it off. Gays are just soooo different, you know. Dear god, I'm a genius. It's funny though, if you have a character who happens to be gay, you have a chance of people saying you're just trying to pander to the LGBT. If you have one and there's a reason or plot point to for them to be gay, then you're pushing an agenda. You literally can't win, so why try to please everyone? (I haven't seen Paranorman, but this is a general statement about what I've observed when it comes to gay characters in the media.)
  6. No, not centered around homosexuality. But having gay characters? Sure, we've had straight couples. I don't consider a gay couple to be an 'agenda', nor inappropriate for kids. Pushing a lesson about those characters would be an agenda. I think many things are an agenda, such as the moral of every episode. Agenda such a convenient buzzword when needed. 'How dare someone's moral lesson be something I don't wanna hear, damn liberals ruining everythang'. Funny how when we get to gays people automatically think it's all about sex and is therefore inappropriate. But we've seen straight couples that are kid friendly, we can do it for gay couples. I also think 'it will cause controversy' is a lame excuse. Well, a good answer for why it wouldn't happen, but not for why it should not happen. So many good books, movies, shows would not have been conceived if 'some people will oppose it' would've been enough to prevent it from happening.
  7. Oh, guess I'm a sheep. I thought this was a place I could be without shame... *hangs head* Personally it's always been easy for me. And I'm not talking from 'hindsight' or about modern mainstream stuff. But I'm sure my experience isn't everyone's. But how do you know Youtube is not commonly used to find music? Seems to be an awful lot of comments about finding music on there.
  8. Boring and boring, that is, brown and brown. Though once in a blue moon my eyes get a good lighting in which it appears a rich honey gold.
  9. Whatever ye olde Sonata Arctica is. To me honest, I don't know if that was even metal. I'm terrible at music genres, I just listen to whatever and don't think about genres.
  10. Do it Hasbro, cause we know you'll shut down anyone else who tries. To conform to word limit: I have never played animal crossing, but I've seen in played and even with only that I can easily see this working.
  11. Guys, the test is about the ponies' personality, not what they like or do. If you get Rarity even though you don't like fashion at all, it has more to do with being detail orientated and organized. I don't bust clouds for a living but I got Rainbow Dash. So half the fandom will love me and the other half will hate my guts. Aw yeah. I didn't even chose any of her obvious answers, it seems she had the most of them(who chose clouds???) Unless Scootaloo is an RD answer. I did not see Pinkie being so high. I though Rarity would be next, but nope it's AJ. Which is alright, she's pretty awesome. Probably because of the hard work answer, but I only do hard work on my personal projects, things I'm passionate about. Glad to not see Fluttershy, to be honest. I like her fine but I'm over being a shy reserved person. It won't do me any favors for my career aspirations. Also, why in the hay does the average change so much between some graphs?
  12. Hey everybody. I figured I'd make this my general art thread. First up is my namesake. I originally intended for it to be in FiM style but it kinda got too detailed for that. The eye also needs to be drawn differently, I will have to work on that. It is an andrewsarchus, a prehistoric hoofed carnivore, and still the largest land carnivore I believe. These are sketches of various G3 ponies(Tink-a-Tink-a-Too, Butterscotch as a boy, Cloud Climber as a boy) I'm trying to develop my own way of drawing MLPs. Not there yet, I'm going to have to try more. Full Painting of Tink. I wanted to design a cutie mark that visually displayed my passions. When I knew what I wanted to do with my life was when I realized how enamored I was with the 'making of' extra on dvd, mostly with the art, cinematography, and storyboards. I knew I wanted to do animation also. The pony is a mix breed of two ideas I'm equally fond of and have my own reasons for choosing either, a zebra or pegasus. A Zesus? A Pegbra? idunno. I do not intend for him to stay this way, I'm more of a fan of characters that you could easily imagine in the background. I'll have to think about it. I'll probably change the cutie mark too. It's just a first draft, nothing final. And finally, a more finished work. Pinkie and Dash... Being weird I guess. That's it for now.
  13. Yes, if you've looked at my post I've made it clear I do not judge people on their labels but their actions. I would not assume that all religious people do that, I don't assume all atheist people do that. Some do, some don't, depends upon individual in question. I even said that the outlook Atheists have that you outlined was unfair. Have I said any contradictory to that? My comment about westboro was to expand upon the unfairness in your comment by using another as an example, so of course if someone were to truly believe that the actions of westboro account for all of Christianity, I would find it unfair. I've already made my disapproval known on that subject. No, you said you didn't take my comment seriously because: "If the Atheistic community could somehow do anything without contradiction, especially with them trying to judge religious "contradiction" " Which I'm confused about how relates to my comment. I would like an explanation. "And I seriously hope that last part was sarcasm, again." Which part? Asking about the 'caught by hypocrisy' or the genuine part? Everything I've said since my first post has been a genuine question to figure out where you're coming from. I'm very confused why hypocrisy in Atheists was brought up. What I've taken from it is that you're blaming hypocrisy of others as an excuse for your comments. But I'm not sure if my perception is correct, your statements came from the left field and I don't know what to do with the information you're giving me because it doesn't relate well, from my point of view, to the discussion.
  14. And that outlook would be unfair. But not all Atheist do that, unless you've met them all and can attest to that. What does the Atheistic community have do do with that quote? Is it because I am one? Why, exactly, won't you take my comment seriously? Is it because of me or is it because of the actions of others? What do you mean by 'caught the hypocrisy', like did it rub off on you, like you're saying you 'caught it' like a cold from the hypocrisy of others? All these question are genuine.
  15. Oh boo, tumblr is blocked for me. When it comes to religion everyone is already on high defense, for understandable reasons, so I thought it necessary, hehe. I agree with you completely, no doubt. I'm not Christian, but I consider myself spiritual. Probably closest to atheist or agnostic here. Maybe in a 'I don't care' category. Anyway! I harbor no ill will to anyone for whatever their religion is. Doesn't matter to me, met plenty of crappy people of all kinds to know it's a human thing, not a 'place label here' thing. I was quite pleased to read this thread and see people rejoicing in a shared connection, then I find quotes like the one I quoted and if leaves a sour taste. But that doesn't taint all the nice people here.
  16. "If a few members do X, that must mean most of them X!" Genius! For my next trick, I'll use the westboro baptists to prove most Christians hate soldiers! (I hope my sarcasm is very evident here.)
  17. You're half right, half wrong. As far as them all being pallet swapped and wig swapped... Um, that's what they currently are as ponies. Any character that has different face and body are minor characters with recurring speaking roles, such as Snips and Snails, Cakes, Flim and Flam, so on. But this was done, in my opinion, so there was no chance of a pony being 'prettier' than other so anyone can connect equally to any pony. The only thing that matters, as it should be, is their personality. Anyway, you're correct that the designs are bad, and crappy. I have hope that this is not the final designs, as there are at least two versions, one with 'pony tail' hair and one with out. I hope they change other things. I'm still reserving judgment to see if the writers give a damn.(not saying that the artists don't, maybe hasbro producers had a very heavy hand there.) And that does not make me 'naive' anymore than someone looking at FiM and thinking all they do is stereotypical girly things(a unfair view of society, not mine. I don't think thing should be 'girl things' and 'boy things') and dismissing the possibility of these big eyed saccharine characters going on a quest to rid their town of a large dangerous dragon. The art style and character concepts do matter, it is a visual medium and so far we are given no visual clue as to who these characters are. AJ is a hard working farm girl yet she's wearing a skirt. I don't think they did a good job at all in character designs. My opinions on the art style is that it looks strange. 'Uncanny Valley' indeed, it definitely need shaping up to iron out some of the weirdness going on.
  18. Equestria Girls, why u no like pants? On a serious and less annoyed note: She does look anti-hero. I would hope they don't play it so black and 'this person is just a jerk'. I like the idea of her being hurt by a feeling of being abandoned by Princess Celestia. Perhaps she comes in the first two season to confront Twilight and is angry over her being chosen, being an alicorn. But maybe the box description is just a quickly rehashed one of Twilight's description, like people have already mentioned. It's highly unlikely the toy line and the cartoon people talk about this(hence some of the odd toy decisions), though that wouldn't stop hasbro from directing them similarly.
  19. Looks like we're going to have a 'Twilight learns to fly' episode. Or moment. Looks like they're at the Crystal Empire. Wonder if they season will pick up right after the last episode or if they will continue the grand two episode 'fighting evil' adventure, as tradition.
  20. Wah? Why is science and logic the opposite of magic? We know Twilight has used science in 'Feeling Pinkie Keen' and is the most consistently logical thinking character. She even goes gets on a literal soapbox about how magic is logical... Magic requires training and hard work, so maybe work from that for it's opposite. But honestly, I don't think that one needs to be changed, as magic can be used to create disharmony. Like Discord.
  21. Thanks everyone. Friendliest corner huh? That's cool, the pessimistic teenage trying to be hardass crowd isn't my thing anymore. Though that's not to say I lack a thick skin when necessary. Tual: Oh heck yeah G3s! I love to take them and create wacky characters out of them to fit in the world I created for my ponies when I was wee small. That's what most of my pony art focuses on. Skywishes is a pretty awesome pony, I really dig her cutie mark.
  22. Hello. I've been a fan of ponies since the G3 line. I don't collect anymore, except maybe blind bags/ponyville. It's just that I'd like to have the option of packing things up into small containers. But anyway, I mostly do art and such. This looks like a great site to connect with others who share this interest, so that's why I'm here.
