  1. heh. Well done on successfully influencing another group of people to see the world the way it is meant to be. If only i could be as bold as your sister, and start sharing about friendship to my class too, instead of hiding behind my walls of science or saying, "Hey, have you heard of...err...erm..the...most...recent news?"
  2. Your science class story won you an internet from this science-loving brony. If only such a thing could happen to me... Ah well. might as well make it happen.
  3. Thanks for all the help. I fixed the problem by resetting the modem in a very forceful way. unplugging every wire connected to it and waiting a while before plugging everything back in seemed (albeit strangely) to do the trick.
  4. Hi. I have this problem recently. Whenever i try to load this site using a normal wifi modem, it takes extremely long to load and only loads the site in a string of hyperlinks. Yet somehow it loads other sites with ease. But when i switch to using my smartphone's 3G hotspot, everything is back to normal. I really want to isolate the problem, so it can be fixed. is it: 1. Computer reception to modems (Only was able to test on Chrome OS or Mac, neither works) 2. mlpforums response to modems 3. Something really wrong with my browser (I use chrome, updated to the latest version as of writing) etc....(Something else?) Thanks for hearing me out.
  5. Well, i have to slightly disagree with some points in this thread. See, it is true that we should defend ourselves against such hate attacks, but let me explain in detail what hater and bad media logic is. First things first, things become 'bad' as they do not relate to the norms in society. This is either due to some horrible event that affects many, or just simply because it steps out of society's "Moral Boundaries". This is where bad lights get shown on such a thing. How the logic works is people first over-represent a bad minority in the group. Now. People will accept this to be true, as it is not technically incorrect. It is the truth, but it is not all of it. However, as many things are nowadays, people will not be interested to look into a situation further, and will take things at face value. So the presumption starts. "Bronies are cloppers." Completely inaccurate, but it is not a lie. A few bronies follow R34. Note that arguing that they are lying will not help, as they omit the word "all". Hence their statement will ring true with most people. This then leads to people who add in the words to these statements, and therefore leads to the statement becoming "All bronies are cloppers." Now it may seem dumb that people will fall for such a misconception, but here's a sad fact. The extended lie has been based of the truth. Psychological studies show that when people are introduced to new things, they form an anchor on that baseline, and compare everything else related to the topic to that standard. Hence, they know that the original statement is the truth. But the anchor effect leads them to compare this new phrase to the old one, and they think, "Why am I not surprised? This clopping thing has really grown on their whole community." This is the fact, why our arguments don't work. The new statement they have is more in line with their anchor statement than any of our arguments. As they know for certain their anchor statement is the truth, all of a sudden the new lie becomes the truth. Not taking such response lightly, any community would then respond in a torrent. But this is what will actually go through people's heads. People are automatically programmed to respond to over-reaction as an attempt to hide something. It is a sense which has been evolved over generations, as people learned that lies are often kept hidden by burying it in something else. The act of deceit. Our fandom's instant and overwhelming response to such a matter further reinforces their argument."Hey, these people are blowing up over a statement. It must have struck home. They really are cloppers." This sentiment then spreads all over, and this becomes the preconception for anyone else who finds out about the show. My recommended action? I really don't know yet. But i'll post when i do. Really sorry for writing half a thesis here, and i hope you guys can forgive me, but i really feel this is the only way to stop the misinformation on our side of the wall. That is how i believe problems are solved, when one side looks at it in a neutral, logical ground.
  6. no problem. Always happy to help. If you need any other help on dealing with such people and their arguments, you can message me. Just give me a bit of time to respond and think. My online activity is often very stilted. brohoof. /)
  7. Hi. I live in Singapore, which is all the way in South-East Asia. Yes, there are asian bronies here. Though i have not met any on this forum yet...(that's because i'm new to the forum)
  8. reading all of the posts so far, just want to share my thoughts. From what i have seen, the main reasons why people tell their friends and family they are bronies is either: 1. Friends and family found out about their interests or caught them in the act. 2. They discover that some of their friends are capable of being bronies or are bronies. So there is no need to worry. And about the haters, some hate just simply to disguise the fact that they are bronies too. Take it from me, that was my way of dealing with the new, uncommon interest. But i got over it when others brought me into the fandom. And those who call it childish? Here's a quote that will help. "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." C.S Lewis, Influential Novelist, writer of the "Chronicles of Narnia." Therefore, don't worry about the hate. Even a famous novelist would have said you are more of a man than they are. In fact he would say they have "A mark of really arrested development." (Sorry about the long post.)
  9. thanks for the warm welcomes. now that my vigour has returned, i can say that my scientific skills help me in dealing with hater logic and philosophy. I tend to leave them drowning in their own arguments. So i would be willing to help counter any arguments a hater might throw. just ask, and leave me some time to think. (Is this going little too far for my first posts?)
  10. yes, it is. *sigh* my fluttershy side has kicked in, it took me half an hour to write that post. i do not know why i am so open to the fandom in the real world, but so cooped up and nervous online. maybe some advice for the forum noob?
  11. Hello. Im skysweep, a brony form Singapore. I have been interested in science and psychology for a long time, but have slowly been doing more artwork recently(all of it pony-related) I have been a brony for 2 years now, but only today did I manage to pluck up the courage to join and post on a forum.(People say my personality is a strange mix between Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, hence my brony activity in my school but so little online) My first encounter with the fandom was with my friends. I found them discussing about the show one day, and i was extremely skeptical about it. ("What happened to you lot?") That was when they thought it would be very funny to turn me into a brony, considering many knew i was a very serious faced scientist. Result? I got hounded across the school every lunchtime. I had resorted to travelling around with my fingers in my ears and closing my eyes whenever i saw them around.(Let's just say that did not end well...) But what finally drew me in was not my friends trying to tie me to a chair, but my own curiosity.(The reality of scientific thought...) And so here I am, 2 years later. being a brony has given me life changing experiences and even saved me from a horrible demise. I can be no prouder to say i am a brony, and that it has made me the person i am today.
